I'd just like to elaborate something I realized as of listening to the song. The reason there are complaints about the violin isn't because the violinist is doing poorly, or because it doesn't belong in the song. It's because the violin is such a contrast to the ocarina. The ocarina has well-defined notes and there's no question where one note starts and another ends. The violin is very fluid, it can switch between notes without stopping. Both fit well into the song, but the problem is, when both ocarina and violin play the part of the main tune, the well-defined notes of the ocarina make the fluidity of the violin sound like an error on the part of the violinist. This isn't the case, but it's what the brain percieves when the ocarina is established as the focus of the song.

People, stop being mean about the violin. First of all, if you think her playing was bad, you have obviously never heard a screechy starter. Second of all, to those who say her notes "sound flat"... the song is in D Flat Major which pretty much means C, Db, Eb, F, Gb, Ab, Bb... so there will be lots of flat notes. Third of all, as a violinist who has tried this before, it is a very hard song to play... specially because of all the flats that make you subject to playing no open strings to give you time for placing your fingers. So, just enjoy the song. .__.
The violin wasn't bad, it was just too loud. It took a counter melody role but it overpowered the ocarina which was playing the melody. When they played the same notes together it was brilliant but as it became the main focus over the actual melody it made the songs seem messy.
I don't get why the violin is getting hated on. Personally I thought the entrance was perfect, it sounded like it was blending into the background while it also took center stage and I felt it complimented the other instruments very well there. Also, do any of you guys know how difficult it is to even play a violin, let alone incorporate it into a rock-metal type of song? It's not meant to be an instrument in such a genre of music but they pulled it off excellently. If you don't like it, okay fine, but at least appreciate that they managed to even get it to work in the first place. At least appreciate that they worked hard to make this. Thanks.
Frank Da Tank Oh dear god, I play violin and ive been playing for around 3 years but cant match this video. Violin is an extremely hard instrument, being able to switch strings while not being squeaky requires talent. You both are right

Ocarina is sinking.... It is to sound engineer though to merge the tracks properly. The guitar is also killing ocarina in the beginning. It is about ocarina sound level too low, not about violin performance!

Tendo Pein I know, I posted a comment about one or two months ago and then I got a bunch of likes and comments. I have about 200 comments on my simple comment and over 300 likes.
I think I finally figured why people hate on the violin, it also makes sense, the other instruments blend together to create this ambient piece of music, then the violin comes in and kinda cuts through that ambiance. In later moments of the song I could appreciate the violin more than in the beginning.
Who the f*ck complained about the violin? Have you seen the sheet music for this song for the violin (or just the melody in general)? For the piano, this is a no stress, but for the violin, I took one look at the sheet and just sat it aside and noped it to the third degree. There's hundreds of flats in this song that make it near impossible for average player to be able to place the fingers on the string for the next note since there's no open string playing. Yeah, that means a lot to a violin player. Please, she did her best and I didn't find anything wrong with her playing.
The parts where the violin doesn’t fit in is when she is playing the harmony. I think it would’ve been better if the orcana thing plays the harmony and the violin had the melody. Either way, the orcana and violin don’t harmonize well together.

David is an excellent teacher, you are going to understand everything. If you are short on money for new instrument, consider getting night by noble plastic ocarina. It sounds good, looks nice, it's durable and cheap.
FifinatorKlon everything leading up to the violin was epic, then there was a violent down spiral when she started playing. The only time it sounded ok was when it synced up with the other instruments.
***** it seems like she just wanted to stand out. She stuck out like a sore thumb and made my ears hurt like one. Just so off man, I listened to it a second time focusing souly on her instrument to see if maybe it was just me but even then it was messy. I sense she wanted to be the highlight of the video. I feel like she should've practiced the sheet music or at least listened to the original a little more before giving it her own flavor. You notice how off she is throughout the whole song but at the parts where the instruments syncronize is where it's unmistakable. It really sounds like she had no vibe for it and just threw it together. There technique but no art. That's my opinion.

+utaWOLF I played violin for 3 years and I've been playing viola for 4 years. Her part would have been fine on its own, but she was playing in a different key than the guitar and the ocarina, so it sounds off.
+utaWOLF Hamonies means that it's in the same key, but with different notes. She was playing in a different key though. For example, if you played g major and minor scales together, it would sound off. That's basically what's happening.
+Sam Gor some songs do that... thats what makes them sound better in my opinion... and actually when i listen to the whole thing it does sound like shes changing keys... but maybe thats just me

Some parts were good some were indeed worsened by it.
FifinatorKlon everything leading up to the violin was epic, then there was a violent down spiral when she started playing. The only time it sounded ok was when it synced up with the other instruments.
***** it seems like she just wanted to stand out. She stuck out like a sore thumb and made my ears hurt like one. Just so off man, I listened to it a second time focusing souly on her instrument to see if maybe it was just me but even then it was messy. I sense she wanted to be the highlight of the video. I feel like she should've practiced the sheet music or at least listened to the original a little more before giving it her own flavor. You notice how off she is throughout the whole song but at the parts where the instruments syncronize is where it's unmistakable. It really sounds like she had no vibe for it and just threw it together. There technique but no art. That's my opinion.

Go violin! But the only thing I didn't like is that the Ocarina shouldn't have the main part. It's too quiet. The violin should've had the chorus. You can hardly hear the ocarina playing!

The reason people hated the violin part is because it's in a different key than the rest of the instruments are.
the reason they hate it is because they cant play worth shit... i cant play violin but this is golden!
+utaWOLF I played violin for 3 years and I've been playing viola for 4 years. Her part would have been fine on its own, but she was playing in a different key than the guitar and the ocarina, so it sounds off.

+utaWOLF Hamonies means that it's in the same key, but with different notes. She was playing in a different key though. For example, if you played g major and minor scales together, it would sound off. That's basically what's happening.
+Sam Gor some songs do that... thats what makes them sound better in my opinion... and actually when i listen to the whole thing it does sound like shes changing keys... but maybe thats just me
