Akuma's English sounds better in Street Fighter V thanks to Richard Epcar, but being the Akuma purist, I STILL like Taketora far better. Tomomichi Nishimura sounded great, but Taketora made Akuma sounded like "he really means it".
Fun Fact, Richard Epcar voiced E. Honda in the street fighter 2 anime movie. Plus he voiced Zochi, who fights with a chainsaw as his hand, in Street fighter 2 V. Honestly that's should have been his voice since SFIV. I never like how raspy his old voice was.
Who's talking: Akuma. Who I'm hearing: Ansem (Kingdom Hearts) Helbram (The Seven Deadly Sins) Joseph Joestar (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) And Commissioner Gordon (Batman)
True. While Ecpar is still far from being good compared to the Japanese VAs, if I have to choose between him and Mallow, I would definitely prefers Ecpar's voice over Mallow's chain-smoker voice any days.
I don't really know if I'm feeling Richard Epcar's voice for Akuma. It's better than SF4 but it isn't really enough. He did so well with Raiden but, I'm not sure who'll fit Akuma's voice right English-wise.
XenoCard This is probably the best Akuma is going to get in terms of English voices. I personally hope he stays as Akuma, because this is a huge improvement over Dave Mallow.
KamektheMagikoopa1 Yeah, honestly now that I've played as him and listened more his voice grew into me. Of all the English Akumas, he's got something I really like.
Considering the only characters that remains the same Eng VAs are Ryu and Honda........ I'm not sure if Epcar would return in 6 or he would be replaced by someone else instead. I only hope whoever Gouki's new VA is in 6 doesn't sounds like a Dave Mallow's chain-smoker assassin voice rip-off lol
sooooo, l guess richard epcar is actually no longer the voice of akuma in SF6. ): this is definitely new akuma's voice actor: that could be jamieson price?
As cool as that would be, I think he would be better without voice mods because of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 7, especially the latter, actually featuring characters only speaking in their native language and interacting with each other without having one character ask what they are saying. While this may be "for story-telling ease," I still find it actually amazing. Considering Akuma is a Japanese fighter like the Mishimas, he was only voiced by Taketora in the game since Japanese is his (or should I say "Gouki's"?) native language. I will admit, I initially found it sad, confusing, and disappointing how Richard Epcar did not voice Akuma in Tekken 7, but after learning Kazuya only speaking Japanese in all versions of Smash was actually connected to his franchise, I was amazed and now find it fine that way. Prior to Kazuya getting in, I was bummed Epcar was not in an epic Tekken game as Akuma (and I also felt the same when Jordan Byrne did not return as Kazuya and Jamieson Price did not return for Heihachi, though he was Paul instead). Also, Geese does not really excuse that, even if I am okay with it now.
It’s almost impossible to think of a VA who can fit akuma I don’t like a single one of akuma’s English VA’s so far. He’s just a hard character to voice
2 options. Vocoder/Filter like a lot of mass effect characters voices. Similar to kage but a better effect where he doesn’t have to scream so it just sounds cool on its own. Other option is someone like the OG kratos voice actor with the THICK nuts deep voice. Basically as long as it’s insanely deep without having to scream
Tomomichi Nishimura is the only VA who nailed Akuma's character in my opinion. Taketora is a close second but is not on par with Nishimura. Richard Epcar does a passable voicework, but still pales in comparison to the Japanese voice actors, as he sounds too angry and cartoonish. It's still miles better than Dave Mallow though.
@@ShinOrochi 100% true, however you have to admit Mallow's Oni was infinity times better than his normal Akuma voice. Every line he said as Oni was so fucking God-like.
@@bigjstudios3421 Mallow's Oni voice is definitely much better than his Gouki voice for sure, but there's still something about his voice that felt off as Oni in my opinion. I'm kinda curious how both Nishimura (Gouki's original VA) and Epcar would sound like if they ever got a chance to voice Oni.
@@ShinOrochi Oh man, that's an interesting one! I feel like.... Nishimura would be in 2nd place in terms of the Japanese dub because Taketora absolutely killed it as Oni. As far as Epcar? Ehhhh, I'd have to see before I judge. But yeah man, I'm actually curious to see too.
@@MrMonsterKen I’m also in the minority who prefers Dave Mallow’s voice for Akuma over any other one. I can understand his really harsh, chainsmoker voice doesn’t fit in some spots, but it really worked for the overall intimidation, and the low tone that lies under the rasp really gives off the demonic feeling. They’re just my thoughts though. I was saddened that he retired but it seems most of the audience doesn’t prefer him.
@@MrMonsterKen Yeah, I understand that. Though, one must admit that Mallow pulled off an amazing Oni in SSFIV. Sure there was a vocal effect which added reverb and dissonance but his tone is spot on and ruthlessness is amazing. I suppose it makes it easier for me to like Mallow better over the SFV one since I generally dislike the SFV voice for Akuma. It doesn’t match his character at all to me. Anywho, it’s ok if you disagree. Just sharing thoughts !! :) P.S I thought I’d add that Street Fighter IV was the first game I played in the series, so I could be a bit biased.
