    I'm not an artist & cannot even draw a straight line. Started learning digital art about 2 months ago and Procreate about a month ago from TH-cam tutorials. I enjoy your tutorials. Tried your "Poppy Field Landscape' tutorial and was surprised at how easy it was to follow your instructions. Happy to learn something new in my seventies. Thank you, James!

    What a superb teacher and gifted artist you are. I feel like I’m cheating as to how on earth I create what you teach! This format of slightly pacier tutorials is really super. I can just about keep up and end up with something really not too shabby in no time. Thanks for sharing your skills and only hope your channel grows and grows so you’re appropriately recognised and remunerated!

    This is maybe my 10th painting of yours that I have done and have gotten very good results but this one is not turning out like yours. The Aurora brush settings are off and the colors are darker. I tried resetting the Aurora brush and trying again but it was still off. I am about 11:30 minutes into your tutorial. I could send you my painting but there doesn't appear to be a way to do that in the comments.

    • @simsjef
      @simsjef 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gordon, I’ve noticed my pencil settings do not align with James’ pencil. I’ve had to experiment with changing my settings to get close to James’ pencil. Also, when creating sun effects, my soft brush settings are different and sometimes I have to use the medium brush. The difference may be our brush settings, our software or the difference in different pencils (talking about Apple Pencils). The one thing I found consistent are his palette settings. In addition the differences we note may .be due the devices we use. I would like to hear more of your comments about these issues. Even with these issues I think James is spot on and I so enjoy his Tutorials.

    • @gordonsmith6393
      @gordonsmith6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@simsjef I have a 2021 apple pencil and Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro (Wi‑Fi, 128GB).. My software is up to date. I downloaded the palette from James' youtube page. I am a HUGE James Julier fan. His tutorials are brilliant.

    • @JamesJulier-Artist
      @JamesJulier-Artist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s strange, if you have adjusted the brush in the ways I showed and it’s still different I don’t know what to suggest I’m sorry

    • @gordonsmith6393
      @gordonsmith6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JamesJulier-Artist I think I may have found the problem. When you first create an A4 canvas, Procreate makes a canvas with a 297 mm width and a 210 mm height at 300 dpi When I create an A4 canvas the default settings that came with my Procreate are the reverse, i.e, 210 mm width and 297 height. Your canvas also uses an RGB color profile while mine defaults to CMYK. Again, I am just using the default A4 that my Procreate came with. So I noticed this problem right at the beginning when I started doing your tutorials so I would create an entirely different custom canvas, not the A4, so the width is larger than the height. Procreate just used the CMYK setting without me being even aware of it. Any idea what is going on????

    • @gordonsmith6393
      @gordonsmith6393 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into this more and it is your A4 settings that are wrong. A4 is the international standard for a basic sheet of paper. A regular old piece of paper has a height of 297 mm and a width of 210 mm. Your A4 settings has them reversed. Everybody else in the world has A4 settings like mine.

    Hi I’ve been following your TH-cam channel for a while now and, and was just wondering what way you have your brushes set up as? My brushes seem to be a lot bigger than yours! Like when I put my soft airbrush up to 50 it nearly covers the whole screen!

    • @JamesJulier-Artist

    Why does it matter the size of the canvas? Do you have specific canvases for certain things you do?

    • @JamesJulier-Artist

      @@JamesJulier-Artist do you have any tutorials on how to build your own canvas based off what you want to draw? I struggle with it and a lot of times I print my work out on 8 X 10 wood frames or shirts sometimes coffee mugs, but I feel like the pixels aren’t right. Thank you for all you do!

    Though I’m sure this question has been asked before.
    What caused you to turn your attention to landscapes as your subject mater?
    Is it simply a shift in interest or do you sell landscapes more easily in the markets apart from TH-cam tutorials?

    • @JamesJulier-Artist
      @JamesJulier-Artist  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean away from my more sci-fi surreal personal style? It’s just I separate my role as artist and teacher somewhat. My individual work is too improvised and discovered as I go therefore impossible to really make manageable as a lesson, it’s usually at the cutting edge of what I can do myself. Landscapes appeal to me anyway so it works for my channel
