switched to wide grip and broke PRs its insane, i've had shoulder problems and more recently some elbow tendonits, so i decided to put less stress on my triceps tendon by switching to a wider grip and it feels much better
Bruno Sammartino, arguably the single greatest bench presser ever, was an advocate for wide grip. His 565 lbs completely raw, steroid free bench press was done wide grip.
I was doing just outside shoulder width, and it was good. For some reason, my right shoulder (still not sure why) hurts in the lowest position. Recently, I tried to widen my grip, and it feels much, much better on my right shoulder. Thus far I have only done this on my inclined bench, but I will try this for my flat bench too.
I'm trying to do incline wide grip bench because I want a balanced chest and a big bench. Does it still carry over to the regular flat bench, or is it just overkill?
It's an option but that will demand a lot on the shoulders. There are probably other ways to influence your bench press. Shoot me an email and I can help you out. Coachben@bigbenchas.com
I currently do 37.5kg dumbbells on an slight incline around a 2. Very good and you don’t feel pain on the shoulders. Once I complete the 40kg I will have to move onto the barbell incline.
Hi Big Benchas! Would it make sense (for the strength increase on the bench press) to do the close grip bench press with the 1-2s break on the chest (the negative part of the movement)? Thanks!
Intull now I’ve been doing shoulder width bench press and lately my progression is stalling . My goal is to up the numbers but also to build a big chest . If I would go a bit wider than shoulder width will my chest muscles still grow or even better ? And one thing more I’m a bit confused about is the point where the bar should touch on the chest , I’m working out at home and have a smith machine so I’ve set it up that the bar touches around my nipple like but when I watch videos of others some even touch under the nipple line somewhere lower chest or some even a bit higher than nipple line … what is the correct way to set up and touch the bar ? Thanks in advance
Well wide grip is just chest less triceps. Close grip is more on triceps less chest. If you want the strongest/heaviest bench it would be shoulder width since your using chest and triceps. If you want to target chest more wide grip.
exactly! i am almost 59 and press some heavy weight. if i did a wide grip i would have no shoulder joint left. my thumb actually touches the smooth to put it in my triceps and back.
Same here. I go ring finger or pinky on the ring. My right shoulder is pretty much always sore but hurts if I go wider. I'll never be a big bencher, deadlifts are my forte. The vid about setup for benching alone has helped a lot though. I'm maintaining my setup no problem now.

In competition can we put put index finger beyond ring?
What if my chest doesn't work with a wide grip?
Closer grip is fine to use!
which is good to make you stronger? wide grip or close grip? just to get stronger and lifter heavier and heavier?

wide grip kills my shoulders, i am almost 2 inches inside rings raw and setting prs at 54, feel i can use my lats more also, long arms and thin.

Going closer is definitely more conducive for some! Just depends on the individual. No right or wrong grip!
Also Julius Maddox has a narrow grip.
Use it on high reps only.
Arnold did wide grip.
Its easier to bench 225 ×20 with the wide grip
Say this to People Who ended up with shoulder issues
Which is the ideal grip that engages shoulders, triceps, forearms and chest?
Elbows 45 degree out from body, and wrists stacked over elbow is going to provide you a balanced starting point
@@BigBenchas can u plz explain wat is a moment arm in benchpress?

Everyone love Jesus
Glory to the Lord Jesus! 🙌🏽

He loves you too ❤
Im much stronger with a closer grip every body is different look up james strictland or jeremy hoornstra
Wide grip also means you won't be able to lift as much especially if you go far like me but it builds a thick juicy squishy chest 🧰
