    Went into my first powerlifting meet yesterday my lifts were conservative it was a push pull in Worcester Massachusetts. I completed six out of six Lifts. 350 raw bench and 455 deadlift. I’ll be 52 in April.. There was a guy at the meet who had one of Your shirts. I introduced myself and told him I also had one of your shirts. This was fun. I’m hooked. Thank you for your great tips

    It’s always different per person too like for me when I go wider that’s when I tend to flatten my back and lose leg power where closer in I can stay with a higher arch and use my legs more it really depends on person hair personally I would say just to try to have your wrist aligned with your elbow when your at about just past the midpoint of the lift I would say just having those joints stacked is one of the best things you can do but depending on what feels most natural and how your shoulders back and chest is built will also determine how wide or narrow you go

    yea, beware of the wide grip if your not used to it, I got a slight injury on my upper bicep close to armpit and shoulder attachment area(and I started benching like 20 years ago). If you insist on the movement start off light and rep it out to get your connective tissues used to the movement.

    I am 67"" tall with a 67" reach quite average even build. I am 65 yrs old and can incline bench knurl@smooth grip 170lbs x 5. I feel like I am best and stronger with this narrow grip.. what grip should I use ?

    What ever your philosophy is, always PRACTICE SAFE SETS! Fucked up shoulders will get you no where fast!

    Wide will hurt your shoulders in the long run. I bench close grip and I just hit a PR of 355lbs with no issues. When I used to bench wide I had constant shoulder pain

    I've tried wider a number of times over the years but always come back to somewhat narrow. Just works for me I guess.

    Great vid. I'm 6'5 with a 82" wingspan. Do you recommend I try MAX grip? Currently using ring finger on the ring.

      Take a couple videos of yourself benching mad look to have your wrist aligned with your elbows at about the midpoint of the lift this is a good basis to start off of and you can move in or out from there

      Yes! I always benched the max legal grip, maxed 205 kgs like that. But my shoulders got fucked up and its there you see pec tear. Now i only bench close grip and thumb on the first ring

      @vikingstrongman5903 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@Thyllnes I ripped my rotator cuff when I was 17 and never went back to wide benching. Certain exercises go against your natural joint patterns and are very unhealthy. Like behind the neck presses. I never see old lifters doing these only the young ones.

      What if when you go wide(ring finger on the ring if the bar) and when you touch the bar to your chest your wrist, elbow, and shoulders line up perfectly??

      because who wants 600 pounds laying on their chest if you can’t get it up, I doubt the spotter can get it up to , so it probably takes more people to spot
