- Hidden in the deep darkness of Australia’s wild island Tasmania, some people believe the mysterious Thylacine, also known as the Tasmanian Tiger, still wanders today. But there are many untold secrets that are yet to be revealed… In this original documentary, ‘SEEING STRIPES,’ presenter Isaac Dove looks further into the Tasmanian Tiger story. Isaac goes on a journey around Tasmania investigating the tale of Wilfred Batty, the man who shot what is said to be the last wild Thylacine. He also interviews one of Wilfred Batty’s relatives to discover what really happened to the Thylacine.
Locals will come forward to bring their stories to light as new facts and tales are uncovered.

The young lad did a stellar job at presenting. I have seen a lot of documentaries on the Tasmanian tiger but this is the best by far.

What an excellent 36 mins. I left Tassie 12yrs when I joined the army. Your doco makes me want to return home and immerse myself in exploration of the untouched west coast, in search of any signs of life of the Thylacine. Great work mate 👏

In New Zealand the takahe was considered extinct around 1898. A small population was rediscovered in 1948. You never know. You've got a fantastic gift and a great future in journalism if you so wish to pursue. Well done lad!

I believe the Thylacine is still around, but the reason it’s so hard to find is because it’s learnt that human equals death.
My dad took me to a remote farm an hour from Burnie TAS in 1963. On the way there he told me to never forget this day. An old guy in a dressing gown took us out the back and in a cage was what looked like a big dog with stripes. My dad told me it was a tassie tiger and not to tell any of my mates but never forget it .
I know people think sure you did. I was there saw it and 60 years later I still remember
I find that absolutely fascinating and I believe it.
I also heard that a thylacine was kept at a property in Wilmot maybe 60s or 70s, possibly earlier but i can't remember exactly the year. Good chance then, like your encounter, there may have been others out there around the same time actually kept on people's properties?

Very good documentary. I'm from Texas. USA, and I got interested in the Tasmanian Tiger in 1987 right after it was declared extinct. If I lived in Tasmania, I would be hunting the Tiger (with a camera), right alongside you. I have never believed that it went extinct.

My wife and I have both seen Tassie Tigers on two separate occasions on the same stretch of road, by the river. When I sighted one I mounted a box curb as I descended the hill as the thylacine ran into a property with lots of trees. I just wanted to observe it for as long as possible.
We live in SW WA. Both sightings less than 5 years ago. I've since installed a dash cam in my ute, but we don't travel around the same time as we no longer work in the same industries.

The Thylacines of WA appear to be a different species to the Thylacines of Tasmania.
According to the rock art in the Pilbara region, the WA Thylacine had a different number of stripes.
Remember that Tasmania is 12,000 years removed from the mainland. The aborigines here could also be considered a genetically different race of people.

It hurts my heart that humans came along and made a species extinct on 3 continents. Thousands of years of habitation and within moments in time we wiped Thylacines off the face of the earth. You are an amazing young man Isaac!

Amen. There are searchers trying to find where there maybe a small population of them and when they do, They will cast a preserve mandate. They've even said the same of Sasquatch species confirmation. They've encountered People who claim they've had Thylacine sightings.
This would be a species I'd be ok with them bringing back with genetics. And average Joe didn't hate them, they were poor, and the govt paid them to kill these animals

👏 well done. Definitely wasn't expecting a teenager to be the presenter. You clearly put a lot of effort into this. It's good to see someone so young interested in this kind of thing. Even if the tazzy tigers as are truly gone and cloning can't bring them back there's a lesson about conservation to be taken from this.Those animals were killed in mass because they were inconvenient and now their descendants are regretting that it happened. There's lots of animals that get the same treatment today and our descendants will feel the same if we don't get on the ball.

@@REELRANDOM I've also been told a story from a reliable source. that a couple of hunters accidentally shot a tiger in the late 90s or early 00s and then took it back to the old tunnack pub south of Campbell town where it was put into the deep freezer and was left there for about 6months. What become of the dead tiger is not clear but he said he believes the university came and collected it and the owner of the pub and the hunters was paid money to keep it quiet.

Very impressed by this documentary’s creator’s professional style of investigative reporting of knowledgeable information told through personally interviewing the men who had credible personal knowledge confirming their story, documented by this young man! Excellent!
A previous workmate of mine swore to have had one in his scope, the second alleged sighting from the family that I know of. They had good incentive to keep quiet for fear or losing their hunting property.

Great work isaac, beautiful skills making this film. I've personally seen 2 in my life and I'm only 27, both in seprate places the most recent was my best sighting and am 100% sure it was a thylacine, I contacted Neil waters with the location after I watched his doco on vice. I sincerely hope that if anyone else finds/sees one they keep the information disclosed to protect their regeneration efforts.

Well...that is the singular most brilliant coverage of stories and accounts of the Thylacine I do believe I have seen in an extremely long time...your research and efforts to interview and visit the ose with any sort of tie to the Thylacine and it's last known specimen was just phenomenal...something I'd expect from a more seasoned reporter or personality with years of experience under their belt...job well done young man...a new subscriber from Sydney...and don't let up on the Thylacine...as the X Files purported...the Truth Is Out There...and I for one hope the beast is still out there...hiding away from the greater populations...and living its life uninterrupted. My family travelled Tassie in the 1980's and we were told over and over again (mainly from farmers) that the Tassie Tiger is still alive (due to their experiences).

I can remember seeing it years ago on our first Tele , about 1959 . It affected me deeply , I felt so sad for the poor creature. This documentary was quite atmospheric, those poor animals hounded like that.

My dad lives outside Burnie and he says he saw a Tassy Tiger on his property, which is over 100 acres of pristine bush at Upper Natone. I believe him, he’s never been the sort to make up tall tale’s!

April 1990 traveling in northern territory Australia.heading north.not far from Daily waters.we saw one crossing the high way from right to left.it was extremely close enough for us to see it very clearly.we knew what we saw.arriving at Daly waters pub.i mentioned it to a local sitting at the bar.he said ""oh yea there's a few of them around.we see them now and then."he thought nothing of it.we moved to foothills of Toowoomba Qld later that year.settled on property.around 1995 my neighbour was building a cabin on back hill from us.he had a make shift bush toilet no door, up behind where he was building a cabin.while sitting on toilet he saw one,walking slowly past.it lifted it's head took a look at neighbour sitting on bush toilet.he knew what he saw as it slowly walked off into the bush.

I've always wondered, how would a cloned animal ever learn to survive and thrive in the wild without at least one parent teaching them how? If cloning starts, wouldn't we just end up with a zoo full of cloned animals??

I was camping in a remote area of a trail that comes off the Overland track. I was camping away from the trail. Late autumn time. I had a big creature with four or two legs walking around outside my tent maybe smelt my foot. It was much bigger than a wombat what ever it was. Being on my own i did not move or make a sound. It was not human as not headlight and it was a very dart night way off trail. Couldn't got any footage as well to dark and switching the GoPro on would made a noise. This was back in 2017. Great documentary by the way.

The Tiger is alive and well on the mainland, I’ve seen it and I will not disclose its location because I don’t want anyone finding that small population. I’ve visited them once since my first sighting and they are slowly growing in numbers
I've seen them aswell in south Australia while camping on holidays 5 years ago one came to our camp site and took our bacon

@@sooweeq123 I do believe in Sasquatch , the most famous film of Bigfoot was made by Roger Patterson in October of 1967. The film had been analyzed & its Not a costume & CGI did not exist back then. Also Hair samples have collected & they were identified as an unknown animal . I do believe Bigfoot is a Real animal & I do believe that the Tasmanian Tiger still exists.

Excellent documentary. I myself saw a Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger ) on the Nullabor whilst traveling from Perth - Adelaide . At the time I was forced to drive very cautiously due to foggy conditions & poor visability......I could hardly believe my eyes when a Thylacine calmly walked directly in my path as it crossed the road in front of me. I tried to take a photograph but by time I had grabbed a camera it had disappeeared in the mist. I was gob smacked at the sighting as it was nothing like I had ever seen ......it had the stripes of a tiger but looked like a dingo or wild dog. The Thylacine showed no fear or interest as it sauntered by the stationary car & continued on its way
It was only after I had returned home & done some research did I realise what I had seen. It was an unforgetable memory.
This sighting occurred around 1982/83

I know someone that saw one with a pup, near Woorooloo on Great Eastern Highway in 1998.
I saw one near Southern Cross in 2008.
Both sightings about 300 kms apart on Great Eastern Highway , in West Australia heading out of Perth.

Awesome job , Keep looking you may find them. In 2017 i spent 5 weeks driving around and exploring Tasmania and in the over 5000km on the roads i had 2 sightings of what i thought were the Tassie tigers. The first was on the back roads just outside of Westbury, and the second was on my way up to and near Marrawah. When i asked my friend what i may have seen on my journey he said it was the feral cats. I do not think what i saw was cats, the profiles were about the size of a Coyote in Canada, but the shape of the back end was very different from a k9. Keep searching.

Especially if you're Australian I believe the tassy tiger is still alive.. When I was in my 20s I saw a black leopard or jaguar in the Victorian blue mountains with my girlfriend 30 years ago so i have a witness and I believe animals are extremely resilient and can survive extraordinary circumstances good luck with your TH-cam future and keep on going strong Issac you will be great but don't be dragged down by the mainstream media..

@@REELRANDOM In NZ repots rom so called credible. professional etc people exist of black panthers. They are always black (recessive colour morph, more obvious in open country etc, but more desirable as pets.
A "pest control" operator (no reference sought about actual skill, plenty of hunter/dreamers about, among some effective ones) saw an adult one (how to tell?), then shot a "juvenile" one a couple of years ago. Newspaper report/photo produced as proof, head not presentable though shot damage. It weighed 11kg.
Some scientist had the temerity to get a DNA sample, and get it tested. Pussy cat, simply a huge feral black cat. A species most calling themselves pest controllers are familiar with. So credibility for identification is low Another was a real estate agent who got a close night sighting on the road, swore it was a black cougar. Yeah, right.
When one of the dozens of effective Aus dog hunters finds evidence of thylacines or Big Cats on mainland Australia, and they could likely produce DNA, then take notice. The rest are seldom remotely credible, mis-identification, or simply intentional misinformation. Which confounds credible reporting, and species saving (for leopards a straight bullet is the immediate answer if possible)

I tell what i see for the reason of oppinions why lie is my moto about this and I now have seen full websites that lie even about thyloscenes absolutely pissed me off I'd point them out to all if I had the right tools.. I just know from experience they do accually exist but can't prove it hence the reason I watch this type of program..
@@admeyer777 Point being mistaken identity is the obvious situation. Dingoes displaced them on the mainland, and something as well as hunting probably did in Tasmania (maybe not all if wild dogs never occupied al thylacine habitat). They went extinct very easily compared to species we try to eradicate (like wild dogs). And bluntly, trail cameras make detection of rare species far easier, so if someone is seeing them and trail cams aren't, figure why the cameras are lying. Personality familiarity and profession don't prevent misidentification, or self belief.
As great as finding them would be. Remote, fertile Tasmania or maybe New Guinea are finite possibilities.

As far as my family name, I believe my Hobart side of the family came from Ireland originally, It was at one time Hobert... Supposedly one of my great grandfathers or something was a general or something like that supposably by some loose research I read, at The Battle of Vinegar Hill, he was on the losing side and so had a price on his head so quickly migrated to Canada and then down to this area. I don't know that much of my Hobart side of the family...
My mother was a Lemon, Which were some of the 1st in US... before it was the US, Like the 1660s Some of the original Is colonist of the new world.
My neighbour used to feed them, they're definitely still around.

Amazing work young man, I nursed a beautiful lady early 90’s from mawbana, who was married to the battey family, was a wealth of knowledge of mawbana history, though wish I knew the family history, RIP Lesley from many years ago😢
the Tasmanian Museum TMAG just found the skin and skeleton of the last captive thylacine from Beaumaris zoo in their archives. she was an old female. Not male or named Benjamin. It was in their education archives as it went on tour to schools in the 1930s.She is on display,in nipaluna/Hobart at TMAG now. Thank you Isaac for great story telling.

I had a sighting at 2:30am in the Florentine Valley in 2012 and only told a few close friends. I live in Maydena and was on the way home from night fishing Wayatinah...

One of the best documentaries about this legendary, beautiful animal. Very well done young man.
