      Unless you have flown a Harrier or F/A-18E, F-16, A-10 or SR-71 you are setting your bucket list pretty low. But to each their own.
      My bet is this: If there was an A-10 fully fueled on the ramp and this multirotor on the ramp and you were cleared through and into a MOA, low level route or gun range outside of Tuscon(Davis Mothan AFB), my bet is, unless one flew attack/CAS fighter-bombers, almost every swinging dick that still has some lead in their pencil would jump into the Warthog.
      Now maybe you have flown fast-movers or the like and this may be a bucket list deal.

    Out of all the new personal flying recreational machines, the Jetson has definitely proved it self my absolute favorite. Now I haven’t yet flown one, but I’ve watched vids that featured at least 15-20 and price, ease of use, and just the sheer looks of it win me over! Man I’d love to have the ability to fly around Manhattan in one of those!! HA! And promptly get arrested for some bs upon landing. Still, it’d be worth the fun. Plus I’m sure it’d make the local papers!! Jetson, if you’re out there, Santa has my list. Thanks!!!

    • @maximlg253

      You can't legally fly in B airspace around Manhattan in this Ultra Light vehicle. And FAA fines are very hefty, tens of thousands easily for violating very congested airspace

      @maximlg253 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@craigchatterton4164 The whole point of ultralight classification is that ultralight pilots don't need to have real pilot's license. Anyone can fly ultralight. If jetson wants to fly around Manhattan, they will need to get N-number (register aircraft) which comes with all sorts of issues. Like aircarft will have to go thru FAA inspections, pilots must be licensed, etc.

      People can hardly drive on the road much less flying these things around. The fatality rate would skyrocket! They'd have to implement some sort of safety device so that if you were approaching ANY object while in the air, the craft would automatically stay at least 5 feet from it. For example, if you tried your hardest to fly into a tree, the terrain warning system would not allow you to do so. If manufacturers like Boeing wanted to create something like this, they could do wonders with it. It would cost $1M or more though....

    Its a great toy that I'd definitely fly. The problem is that companies like this think they are trying to solve an urban flying transport system problem. Thats misguided because product liability, airspace constraints, tricky weather conditions and the fundamental problem of battery energy density. Batteries will never suddenly get 10x capacity and flying with rotors is very inefficient if you have a wing its 3x more efficient but even then its not viable. So I'd concentrate on making it an extreme sport toy first and then go from there.

      @@ITWUT A typical aircraft has vertical swinging props, that in most cases are not sitting a few inches from your cockpit or passenger compartment, as is illustrated by this really cool air vehicle.
      The safety issues related the very close proximity of fast spinning blades, without some type of blade off containment shroud is asking for trouble.
      I worked in high velocity projectile containment with GE Engines at the University of Dayton.
      The velocity of turbine fan blades breaking off from usually bird strikes is roughly 1100 to 1400 feet per second, or
      about the speed of a 9mm or .40 cal pistol round.
      If that vehicle were my project ,I would incorporate ultra light weight carbon/kevlar/PU shrouds around the blades.
      Blade off caused aircraft deaths are not discussed with news outlets, and are usually just typified as " engine failure".
      I want one these though.

    • @ITWUT
      @ITWUT 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, turbines are shrouded. Props are not. I totally agree that a blade departure is a negative event, and that the pilot occupies ~20% of the possible departure pathway. As illustrated above the pilot is sitting in the cockpit and wearing a protective helmet, further reducing direct exposure to what, 5%? And I'd guess both of are capable of protecting the pilot from an ejected carbon prop blade, which is not anywhere near the energy of a turbine blade, but still dramatic surely.
      Loss of control would my primary concern and I'd love to see how the control code handles that. As it is, these short, limited flights make me think that they might be right on the edge performance wise, or they'd be showing it.. I say they rushed to get out front, and if they can take advantage of the sales to drive engineering then they did a good thing -because I can assure you that these are fixing to start flowing out of peoples garages. Big., strong, outrunners and and ESC's are relatively cheap and reliable and these guys are demonstrating that it can be done.
      Folks are gonna run with that. Lemme add that I'm not intending to be negative at all, I love this thing and thing that it's one of those evolutionary steps, right up there with what Musk is doing down in Texas.. Great time to be alive!
