@@zaraheart They've made at least one video about Paul being harassed for not letting someone pat Mr Maple while he was on-duty. I've heard a lot of other people with service animals complain about it too. Lack of decency is way more common than you would think
@@zaraheart I've known people who've been harassed like this repeatedly. Some had to start saying "this is a service dog please don't pet" anytime a stranger approaches. In the nicest way possible, make some disabled friends and try to understand the experiences better. Unfortunately a lot of people don't behave like adults when it comes to disability :( and please be more considerate in the future. It's not nice to make assumptions and act rude about something you're not as knowledgeable about And sorry if this came off rude, tone doesn't carry over text very well

I would like Paul to confirm, but it doesn't seem like the fan asked. It seems like they were just happy to see the trio, and Paul chose to offer to let them meet Mr. Maple. That's super important.

Other service dogs may not jave as good of an understanding as Mr. Maple that No harness= off duty and harness on = on duty. Because his dog is so well trained he knew he could take the harness off and let Mr. Maple meet the stranger before putting it back on without confusing him. Everu dog is different and the owner knows their dogs limitations and (hopefully!) respects them. Since Mr. Maples service is guiding Paul it was safe ti briefly take him off duty vs someone with maybe a cardiac alert dog or something like that where they need that dog on alert no matter what for their own safety (plus in this specific moment Paul had Matthew as back up). Im not trying to be mean or rude, just explaining why someone may have a very good reason yo deny petting a service dog!
The difference is Paul and Matthew had time to take off his harness and let him be off duty for a few minutes. Other service dog handlers can do this, but it does take more time out of their day. They don't see any value in doing so.

With my service dog, I keep her vest on but give her a command (I say “okay, say hi”) and then control how long the meet and greet is and call her back to me so she is interacting with another person on my terms and not the other person’s. I love seeing how other people work with their service or guide dogs.
For me that's the hardest part of seeing a service dog while they're on duty. I love doggos, but I know they've got a job to do. So I admire them from afar.

What I love about the interaction is that there was mutual respect from everyone. Paul, Matthew and Mr Maple taking a few moments to greet a fan. And the fan patiently waited until Paul took off Mr Maple’s harness so she could pet him. Smiles all round… ❤❤

I love the way Mr. Maple parades his leash! When the dogs are pups, they always pick up toys and carry them around to show people, we call it parading. Its so cute to see Maple doing it!

This guy is such a kind soul. My ex is blind and helping to take care of him with simple things that we take for granted is a rewarding feeling. We are still great friends and I help him with his business when he needs it. He single handedly was the person who made the Bioshock series able to run on the PS3.
The leash is Mr Maple’s ultimate diploma. I would be very proud, too. To be a guide dog is one in a million. I mean it is a small percentage of dogs who can do this job. Mr Maple is in special ops or an equivalent to a green beret but super friendly and impeccable customer service. 😊❤
