I find it hilarious how people complain about too many anime sword guys, and in response they put in THE Anime Sword Guy
what makes him so good is that he is more than that. he's such a well-realized "goliath" in what is basically a super-cool "david and goliath" story. same reason on the flipside why cloud is so beloved despite being at first glance a generic anime sword boy himself.
I mean, they also made that exact joke in Byleth's trailer so they are absolutely aware of the memes, lol
people complained about the *8* fire emblem characters, not sword fighters in general. the "anime swordfighter" thing is a joke.

I don’t really get these smash fans they don’t want anymore sword fighters but they are begging for Dante, Sora(uses a keyblade but still),etc. even though they are basically sword fighters in general

Sakurai had nothing to do with the character selection for the Fighter Pass 2.

As far as we know, he and his team only made his moveset.
@@firestonehaku whether or not he picked the character, Sakurai does write and plot out all the trailers, he confirmed so during the Min-Min reveal, so he did direct the trailer

Sephiroth Kirby and the Sephiroth amiibo are what i'm looking forward to, just to see how long that sword will be.
I can't wait for Kirby's copy look, but I doubt he'll have the sword, Sephiroth had magic attacks in the trailer one of them will probably be his neutral Special.

Can we talk about how Sakurai essentially recreated Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children in a Smash reveal trailer in that second half.. All that action was right from Advent Children.
Look you know full and well that all smash is to Saukrai is the ULTIMATE fanfic. His OC gets to fight and use the abilities of his favorite video game characters. im sure he is a Advent Children fan as well so its just more fuel for the fire that is FanFic Ultimate

2:46 - Very subtle joke with Mario getting flung off of Sephiroth's sword mid fight with Cloud. He straight up blocked Cloud's attack with Mario still dangling there.
Him getting flung was so damned funny too!

Wait it's a meme?
The allusion IS his music, you'll note how few character reveals in Ultimate allude using music, it's usually motif tease, reveal, THEN the music plays; but with Sephiroth, his theme is just too iconic. Most of us knew it was him within the first 4 notes/beats, so how could they not lead with it when his theme literally precedes him?

100%, that was an amazing trailer. Really shows off how impressive Sephiroth is. Between the Aerith Dive, him killing Galeem, and Cloud having Omnislash Ver 5, it was super cool. If anyone could easily one-shot Galeem, it would be Sephiroth.
Also, as a note, a ton of shots from this trailer are exact remakes of scenes from the final fight of Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children (the movie that follows FF7 canonically). Sephiroth summoning the clouds, stabbing Mario (in the movie, actually stabbing Cloud), growing the wing, and Cloud's Omnislash are all from it. Super cool to see the level of dedication go into this.
This was BY FAR the fastest I've ever guessed a character.
My 15 years as a professional FF player really uh, "helping out" with that.

The statue they showed before the trailer could be a huge hint too seeing as it kinda looked to be the statue Sephiroth tears open to reveal his mother..or who he claimed to be his mother in the game... sorry if spoilers but FF7 is a rather old game ^^; Still nice we got the other side of the coin as it were... Cloud being shown with a angel wing in some appearances and Sephiroth the dark angel wing...

@@aquaticchaos1717 He’s laying on his back behind Pit. Earliest point I can think of where he(and pit) are visible is when Hero, Samus, and Richter get blown back. Then obviously when Pit is looking up at Galeem
I'm shocked how few people commented on the fact one of the trailer pieces has Zelda prone on the ground and he does a downward stab into the ground. Reminiscing on a different FFVII game memory.

It would be really weird if they just randomly had Galeem killed, and didn't have his opposite given the same treatment, especially considering how in the actual story in the final battle, if you don't kill both, the other takes over and becomes supreme again.

Incidentally, the Japanese are far more familiar with their own, shorter and concise version of Super Nova than the overly long international version that we had to sit through... They even re-created it in Lightning Returns.

You know, I was thinking how most dlc characters couldn't already be represented in-game because that they already have an extensive list of series that are represented and I was thinking how could you add more? (Three houses had no representation in smash prior to byleth and arms had no characters and only 4 or 5 spirits) But I didn't realise, Final Fantasy has almost no representation so they can do whatever they want with the series.

So anyone wondering what the names of some of those moves were let me detail it. So that dark attack is shadow flare, that moment where he slashed the midgar stage in half was heavens light, that counter ability is scintilla. That downward attack is hells gate. And I believe that the long hitting forward attack is octaslash. His dash attack which has not been shown might be an attack called oblivion if I were to guess. Excited to see the rest of his move set.
