"Sir, I don't speak the language"
"That is no excuse for not understanding it. Surely the judge will be moved by my poetic retelling of the events"
"Sir, hire a notarized translator, bring me two copies and then I can give consultation on whether you have a case or not."

The "poem" in Yoruba was probably some sort of spell. I'm guessing the guy thought he could enchant the attorney to make him take the case, and when that didn't work, the guy tried to curse the law firm.

I'm Yoruba from West Africa so I think I know what he's trying to do. You see, many folks believe in these "spells" that you call out after using some charms or concoction. It's a practice that many would swear on their grave that it works 🤣

Funniest thing is "at the request of my client" meaning "i know this is intensely dumb but the idiot i work for pays my bills so do not think i actually want this"

Back almost 10 years ago I had to have a heart valve (p, for clarification)replacement due to thickening and insufficiency of that valve (p) due to congenital defects in a different valve (t) and the stress then placed on the valve (p.) It was performed as a cath lab procedure as opposed to being an open chest surgery. The risks were explained - including possible damage to the valve (t) that was damaged/repair when I was 4. My husband and I listened to all the risks then decided to go for it, especially since I would probably need intervention on valve (t) in the near future. A few months after procedure, during follow up , it was mentioned that valve(t) had lost some functionality. Well not what I'd hoped for, but knowing I would have needed to address it eventually, I talked to the doctor and we worked out a plan for me to things on my end (I had a couple teeth that had broken when i ate some milk duds and pulled out old fillings and bacteria from cavities can destroy heart valves) then surgery. Then one day I was going about my usual routine - make bed, straighten bedroom, ggo do some exercise - when my husband starts asking me a bunch of questions about what procedure I'd had for the heart valve (p) then abruptly handed me the phone. Turns out he'd been watching TV saw some malpractice/workers comp/personal injury lawyer's commercial and called. Without asking me or even mentioning it to me until he handed me the phone. Surprise!, the lawyer didn't think we had a case due to the possible risks of the procedure. I wasn't happy with husband after that, for putting me on the spot. But yeah, we signed the consent forms acknowledging that there were risks, and what the risks were. Why would you think that you could call and leave out a few details and expect someone might take the case? 😅

0:45 - This might sound stupid, but it also highlights a glaring legal void that needs to be filled: what happens when a couple that has lived together for years ends up separating? There are laws that protect cohabitation in most countries already, but I have yet to hear of any such thing as a procedure meant to ensure the civil and orderly dissolution of a non-marital relationship.

In Brazil any time past 3 years is considered marriage with full rights to ownership previous and past the start of the relationship, unless there is a term of stable union that is the equivalent to a marriage.

So basically with the first one she expected someone else to be responsible for their own stupidity... The most painful part of this is how common this is...

I feel like the "ben" part is more from the Australian accent, that with a North American accent it's more "melburn". :)
