- Hi everyone, this is the Legend of Dragoon; Rose Memories of Disc 2 after you abandon the Phantom Ship, Restored to 4K using AI.
This did took quite a while, but it's my favourite cut-scene in the game and did everything I could to make it look as great and as close to the original. Sadly some of the rapid movement scenes were presenting artifacts out of the noise in the original, which were producing horrible results, so it took me like 20 fu***ng tries to get it right while still preserving as much detail as I could. It also took me quite some time due to my desire to make it look as close to the original as possible so I was in many instances comparing frame-by-frame, but I think in the end it looks quite good.

Thats interesting.. *So the dragoons had a 'Self-destruct ability you couldnt use.. The ability to FLY vast-distances also that we couldnt use.. And the ability to control dragons like the evil-dragoons do ingame.. Which players can only half-command like those early final fantasy games for summons, And only reallly-late into the game.. .. Does anyone else get the feeling they really didnt-do this game any service by NOT giving it a Newgame+ with all those missing-featuress and more..? Or a sequel..?*

Best cutscene in all gaming. You can also see the immaturity in Rose in how she is always being watched over and saved by Shirley, then how loving and vocal she is with Zieg. Completely different Rose than the one you travel with. She’s the best character in all this game.
Belzac's death always gets to me, how he's doing everything he can to try and save Shirley, even though he's definitely going to die.
Yeah it's really hard to see Belzac just trying to protect Shirley there 😞

Agreed. That's such a horrible way to go out. Fatally impaled and no doubt in utter agony while simultaneously trying to keep yourself and your ally/lover from being crushed to death...

Even the cut scenes back then were ahead of their time, it was quite amazing to think that that kind of quality existed on a PS1 game of all things.

All my life i thought Belzac was just hanging in there the best he could (dude is strong af), but only now I noticed he's pierced by the virage's claw! Dude was a fucking monster, holding half the fortress in his arms while pierced!
Yeah Belzac was indeed a monster, I mean half of the strength of a person comes from the muscles on the abdomen and spine support of the back. And without them he was still holding. It's amazing!

Its been more than 20 years and I was today years old that I realised this 😭
Love makes people do some crazy things. He saw Shirley unconscious and did the only thing that had to be done. Makes me wonder , what Shirley did afterwards.... it was said she gathered the rest of the dragoons' souls and had them stay in the towers....but, i wonder if she reciprocated Belzac's love and was in agony for the rest of her time alive up until the party gets the dragoon stone from her , even though she knew she still had a part to play. Makes me wonder if she comforted Belzac , confiding why she saved each one of their souls from Mayfil. Letting him and the rest take comfort in knowing they wouldn't be experimented on and judged by the Winglies even in the afterlife. Hell the fact they recreated their homes in the towers ( Belzac being the caretaker of an orphanage....the man was just too kind, i'd like to think he didn't even want to fight, until someone told him Shirley was going as well.) I know Kazas didn't care, mostly cuz he was too concerned fighting.

Still to this day I can't watch the "Barbarian" (sorry, really dont know the name, but the "ancestor" of Kongol's dragon) scene. God. It was so god damn awful when i was a child i watched him gasping for air. Holy. Terrifying AF. Specially because i did not speak english at all at the time. So i just had to kinda understand what was going on through this brutal image... Oh my god. Really hope that i live to see the day this game gets a rework. Really do. Thanks for putting so much effort into that. Honestly.
Oh I get it, when I was a child English not been my native language also bring me some confusion in a lot of parts of the game. Mainly on Zenebatos on Disc 4, up to this day I still hate Zenebatos for that lol. About the ancestor of Kongol his name is Belzac, you can hear Shirley scream his name once she realises what's going with him holding everything there. And yeah it's one of most brutal scenes in the game. In any case thanks for passing by and commenting ☺️

This game deserves so much more credit, recognition and attention for how amazing it was back in the days, it still is. While everyone been wetting their pants playing Final Fantasy, this was the masterpiece that stole my heart. I'm not saying FF were bad, because they were great, but TLOD was just something different. The story, the characters, the lore, the additions, dragoon transformations, the epic fights, the feels when Lavitz died... So many precious memories of that game... It still has so much potential to this day. Just the Dragoon Campaign would already be interesting af to play and experience those times... Anyway about the video it's beautiful, made me squeeze a tear or two out.
Well I agree, as a kid I remember telling my friends about how awesome the legend was, and they telling me that FF was better, and it pissed me off lol. Eventually I started giving value to Final Fantasy after playing it (FFVIII) and today I also love those. But The legend was my first RPG and it's still my favourite up to this day.

@@Aeong There were so many PS1/2 JRPGs that almost no one talks about that is just such a shame. To me Final Fantasy is like Taco Bell. Yeah it's good and easily accessible to everyone, but I wouldn't ever rank it anywhere near best Mexican food I've ever had.
As far as Legend of Dragoon goes, I play it once every couple of years. Still remember where all 50 stardust are. And Rose is still best girl.
Lol I found funny you're example of Mexican food because I fucking hate tacobell. But anyways, yes there are so many games that are hidden gems that people don't pay attention to them. I don't know if you own a 3Ds or DS, but the last game that I played that game that feeling of good old days RPGs was Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. If you can check it out.
@@Aeong Nah, I don't have a DS. The most recent game I played that gave me the old school tingles was Octopath. Eiyuuden Chronicles is looking really good as it's stoking my love of Suikoden.
In terms of Taco Bell, I'd agree that it's nowhere near quality food but if someone asks me if I want their extra potato burrito I'm not gonna say no.
I feel like that's what Final Fantasy is to the jrpg game. They'll get you filled and you might even moderately enjoy them, but a few hours after you're done you're gonna lament the fact you didn't eat something better.

This cutscene still gives me the chills. Last battle, all of them so powerful in peak power dragoon forms, fighting waves of virages, and yet they all had to sacrifice themselves to win the war, as the enemy was also powerful. So fucking cool.

Yeah and imo it was slotted very oddly in the game and just jaw dropping b/a. If i wasn't sold by that point in the game all those years ago that cutscene definitely did it.

This game touched my soul in many ways as a kid and this brought back those feelings.
I know exactly what you mean. To me this game was so special even back in the day. I couldn't described. The music, the ambience, the story, there was just something so magical about it. I wanted to play the game all day long and when I wasn't playing it I wanted to talk about it lol. I remember some friends will even same on the occasions playing the game and been like; Are you playing that again???? Lol but I didn't mind it. It was just something else for me this game! I'm glad you got some of those feelings back!

The scene with Shirley and Belzac is so well done. Her voice calling out to Belzac seeing how fatal his wounds are, then the immediate show of confidence in her voice as she turns to avenge him. Really shows how close they must have been as companions. She is such a badass Dragoon because of this scene. Also well done on the remaking this, very nostalgic !
God, the feelings this cutscene and music stirred up! Rose’s story was always so tragic.
LOD was my first JRPG that I ever played, and I was in 6th grade when I bought and would come home from school and play it all afternoon. What a special experience it was.
It’s amazing that even after 10,000 years, this game is still being talked about. Rose had such a heartbreaking💔 task, I don’t know how she kept going for so long🥺 I remember one time, I was able to play this with my eyes closed. I listened to the footsteps of each character & performed their attack moves with a 95-98% success rate, WITHOUT using the “Ultimate Wargod”. Only one I was never able to do (eyes open or closed) was King Albert, he’s just too fast. But that was only once, let me say that again, ONLY ONCE☝🏻was I able to play this with my eyes closed. I tried again several years ago, when I still had the game and couldn’t do it no matter how much I tried. I’d still love to play it again, and a higher resolution remake would be awesome.

And yeah Albert additions were really fast, is one of the reasons I don't like him vs Lavitz (no real problem against the character.) But I had a much easier time with Lavitz additions.
And yeah I wish we can get a proper remake. For now this kind of works from us members of the community it's the best we can get.
I think this is how the original creators intended for this to look but the PS1's graphical limitations kept the resolution low for all the action. Nice job!! 👍
Yeah I feel the same, honestly my memories of how "good" it looked as a child are not that different of the final result. However the fact that in was on such a low resolution and the technical limitations of the CD, plus the high levels of compression they had to add to make them fit on a CD + all the game and it's assets, was probably the hardest part. But I'm very happy of what we can achieve today 😊

Yeah Belzac death it's really hard, seeing all the original dragoons die is pretty hard but also one of the coolest parts of this cutscene!
@@Aeong Rose and Zeig the only survivors of the Dragon Campaign, but neither knew that the other survived. Zeig got resotred after 11,000 years and when he found out how long he was stoned out for he went to see the world and met Claire. Rose on the other hand got a choker that made her ageless and had to prevent the rise of the end of the world, which she fails on the recent one. The last two died saving the world but would be remebered by the other new dragoons.

What I wouldn't do for a full-blown PS5 prequel game set during the Dragon Campaign. Something big like the FF7 Remake. There is so much dang potential with the loooong lore and history of The Legend of Dragoon. Over 11,000 years of story goodness. 🥰
Not to mention a good chance that a remake could answer and expand upon a lot of the plot holes and inconsistencies from the original PlayStation game (Like how did Shana as a child originally from Deningrad, a land 2 continents away, end up all the way in Seles and WHY? Why was her twin Princess Louvia on that doomed ship to begin with? Why wasn't their mother Queen Theresa on the ship with her? Where/Who is the Father/King and where was he? On the ship with Louvia too and killed? Where was Shana during the the Black Monster's attack to begin with...?). So many things that really needs explaining. . . 🤗
Same bro, I wish we could get a prequel specially because we already know some of the cast and are invested on them like Rose, Dart father, and Shirley. They could be the start and from there we could start getting more and more units and learning more about them. It would be awesome!!!!!
I remember watching this for the first time as a kid, and I was so blown away! Seeing the past Dragoons fighting to the death to save the world. Yeah the voice work is pretty bad, but back then it wasn't standard at all.

Rose went through so much and lost everyone she loved. Skip 10k years into the future and the dragon campaign is mostly forgotten but through many events she gets to end it once and for all. One of the greatest redemption stories and best rpgs I ever played growing up. Still play it once a year.
the algorithm didnt agree with a few of the shots in this, mostly the big sweeping shots. just too much detail in very small places? but wow, what a dramatic change. absolutely stunning. thank you so much for doing this
So much nostalgia!!! I remember this cutscene so well because my sister and I refused to continue with the game until we watched it over a dozen times. I wish they would remaster the game and release it for current gen. :_(

When I was a kid, I used to imitate Darts fire Dragoon animation within my dreams. Hoping that I would become a Dragoon like he did. Especially when I had nightmares. It worked sometimes, where other times it didn't. It also inspired flying too. Which is fun to do within dreams. Don't got those badass wings though ;)

Remembered watching my stepfather play this when I was a kid, struggled to read at the time only got so far. So much nostalgia
I had a similar experience as a kid, English wasn't my native language, so I also struggle many times making progress on the game, specially on Zenebatos. Still I really loved the game there was something so good and magical about it that even if I couldn't understand everything I still feel engulfed by the world, the music, the characters. It was amazing!!!

Yeah me too, I wish that was the case... The other day I read that the Japan studio from Sony was disappearing and been moved some of the remaining employees to other divisions... They made The legend of Dragoon and Bloodborne for example 😑😔 so I guess our only option left is a future blue point remake.
@@Aeong yeah it's quite the shame. But on the plus side we get good ai upscaling from community like this. I was watching lobosjrs ongoing stream(he is using a ps3 with og ps1 discs) and it got to this part and i could barely make out what was going on which was shocking to me as i never had that issue before. Projects like yours are a godsend

About the quality yes, I agree, it's quite shocking I also checked some old videos when I was doing mines and holy fuck there are versions of the cutscenes uploaded to 240p here in TH-cam and those look so hard to see or differentiate anything.

Would love to see Rose and Zieg story, how Rose became the Black Monster, how Zieg became Dart's father, Damia's hard life as she was very young at only 15yo and also half human half mermaid made her as an outcast, how Shirley managed to convince Kanzas to join the Human v Wingly War, bitter life of Belzac witnessing winglies killed thousand of children and what made Syuveil so interested in Life and Death and the Far-plane... That would be an epic story for a game 😍

And our start party could be Zieg, Rose and Shirley since they're the ones we know the most. And from there we could start slowly getting to know the others more. It would be awesome!

Would not of made sense As Damia was not in this specific battle.
It was Zieg Rose Kansas Belzack and Shirley who led the assault on the capital.
At this point damia and Syuveil had already died or were busy assaulting the other wingly cities. The magic under water city Ageis and the Death City Mayfil.
My favorite game of all time. I go back and play it every 5 years or so. Emulator upscaling can make it look better but this is just beautiful. Thank you.

Soy fan de final fantasy 7 pero si algun dia se hace nuestro sueño realidad y hacen un remake con graficos modernos square se orinaria en sus pantalones, legend of dragoon simplemente es una de esas joyas raras y unicas q hayan existido, una segunda parte seria genial sobre como empezo todo, la capaña del dragon, como obtuvieron los espiritus, la guerra contra los winglies, las otras razas q solo aparecen en textos... Hay bastante material para un abido director, quien sea si obtiene los derechos y el apoyo tendra el mejor exito de todos los tiempos.
Estoy de acuerdo. También soy fan de Final Fantasy 7 ( y en general los demás Final Fantasy). Pero me gustaría que pudiéramos ver algo similar al Remake de FFVII con gráficos modernos para The Legend. Ver cómo obtuvieron los espíritus sería genial ya que podríamos ver cómo derrotaron a los dragones originales que tenían el espíritu, similar a lo que pasa con el Dragón Divino.
This game was way ahead of its time. I first played it when I was probably around 9-10 and have always replayed it for the storyline. The emotions this game sparks are unreal and doesn’t come close to any other game so far. What a storyline and character development! Lavitz friendship with Dart and his death always gets to me! When he comes back later in the game, made me weep even more! 😢. Make this game live forever. Praying for a remake or sequel!

Love this game, this is one of the best RPG's that was ever made considering that it is NOT a Final Fantasy. This needs a remake or ever a prequel the Dragon Campaign!!!!!

Yes I can imagine that! I believe the star party could be Zieg, Rose and Shirley as they are the ones we know the most of the original game. And from there they can start expanding upon the rest of the cast. It would be awesome!!! I hope Sony one day gives us the chance!

Its gems like these that I still play since their release. Years came by, so many AAA games around, but these PS1/2 JRPG will be in my heart forever.
The Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire IV, Koudelka, Shadow Hearts 1/2, hack//G.U. and so many others... Of course I love Final Fantasy (almost all of them), but those hidden ones are gems in the desert.

Crazy in that moment dart dad body taken by melbu. Also looks like melbu had the dragon buster sword. Must've fallen down llyod find it later. They're fighting hundreds of super virages in this fight. They're all very strong
Yes! That was the sword, it also explains how quickly Dart dad falls with it. About Lloyd finding it later, I dunno, I remember that at some point in Disc 3 they tell you that it was sealed along the Dragoon blocking staff, however it was stolen. I don't know if they retrieved and later on Lloyd stole it or if they refer to this point exactly.
Nevertheless it's an amazing cutscene and it's great see them fight all of these Virage.
@@Aeong I think that's also what I have foggy. Cause also technically you can get the dragon buster sword from one of the mini super bosses if I remember. I'm not sure. So did lloyd steal the sword and left the dragon block staff? I just wish they explained the weapon more
@@BountyRogueCinemax yeah not sure really, and now that you mentioned you could indeed get the sword or at least a sword named like that. But I believe Lloyd keeps it the one of the cinematics all the way up to the end game 🤔
Also yes we are to believe he didn't stole the Dragon blocking staff, my guess it's that he used Lenus instead for it, so maybe she was only capable of retrieving just one? I guess that could make some sense 🤔
@@Aeong that's crazy 🤔🤔, the possibility that there was an army or elite forces of winglies with dragon busters and dragon block staff is a possibility. I just read the green dragoon and blue dragoon were both dead before the end battle with melbu. Apparently it's not explained why and the blue dragoon is a mermaid and we never got to go and meet mermaids. A prequel is needed badly I want one. Hell I want to help write one 😭
@@BountyRogueCinemax yeah there were other dragons not shown in the cinematic. (well I kinda feel the green dragon it's actually shown for a second flying but not sure because all of them leave a green trail while flying.)
About the Blue dragoon been a Mermaid you actually get to know her as an optional boss on Disc 3, her name was Damia, you can also meet the green Dragoon Syuveil, they're all available to know more and as a fight in Vellweb at the end of Disc 3. Yeah I agree! I used to like a lot of those yearly triple A games, like Assassin's creed back in the day of the first ones. But nowadays I'm kinda sick of all of them. And I really wish we could get something more different or something like the good old days. Sigh...

Now it just needs to be run threw one of those AI's that increase framerate
I actually have used some of those, but I'm not very happy with the results yet, they tend to fall to recognise fast moving objects and scene transitions. So for example a fast moving object can be "unpredictable" on their trajectory and they simple disappeared it in order to get the idea of motion. This happens even more so on this cutscenes because the originals on ps1 were 15 fps so IA struggles sometimes. Yet they're getting better so maybe in the future I'll start to incorporate them. Le di un par de oportunidades a Video enhance desde que salió hace un año, pero en mi opinión el programa aún no está listo. Además tengo entendido que abandonaron su modelo de IA para escalar CG, "gaia CG" que se supone que estaba diseñado para escalar "Computer generated content." No lo han actualizado desde septiembre o octubre no recuerdo cual. Pero hay al menos 4-5 versiones más del programa sin que lo mejoren, así que tampoco estoy seguro de usarlo alguna vez. Pero si mantengo un ojo en todos los programas nuevos que se lanzan y pruebo que sirve para mejorar la calidad de las cinemáticas.

Para imágenes no exactamente, se que muchos usan Waifux2. Yo le di una oportunidad a gigapixel y aunque me gustó lo que vi si creo que le falta un poco. En unas imágenes más desaturaba un poco. No sé si ya hayan corregido eso.
Se ve genial, y el movimiento me agrada mucho, se ve muy natural!
