Art demo using Neo Crayons II and Stabilo Crayons with Andrea Garvey

- A little art demo using Neo Color II and Stabilo crayons on top of my acrylic painting. I love how these are multi purpose, you can use on a wet surface or dry one. In this demo I am not adding water but just using the crayons to a creamy effect.

Are the Neo and Stabilo crayons compatible with traditional acrylic varnishes? Will they bleed if overcoated with another coat of acrylic paint?
Hi Cathleen - I use a spray for my varnish when I finished with my painting and the neo and stabilos are fine with that. However both are water soluable so if you are brushing on a matte medium then I would suspect it would react like water and bleed some. I would recommend that you just try a little sample piece somewhere to test. I love both of these crayons as they can be dry and also when you add some water they are more like paint:) I hope this helps!
@@AndreaGarveyArt Thank you so much for your reply. I ordinarily use spray varnish so may have to invest in some of these. My daughter Caryn gifted me with some of your dish towels last year, which I love! And, we are both signed up and looking forward to your Colorful Joy class.
@@cathleenhamby8246 Oh that's fantastic!!! Yes spray varnish will be fine, I use matte. After watching so many great videos like this one I decided to buy these Stabilos too, but i'm very disappointed because they don't overlap in any way! When i see you add for example white over various blues i can't believe my eyes: i tried and tried but it doesn't work, no color overlaps the one below! I can not understand what is different between these videos with good results and my reality. Blending and shade is also not possible. The way these Stabilo crayons perform i just want to throw them away, and sadly they cost a lot.
Hi Maria - oh no! I use them to overlap and layer on different mediums like watercolor paint, collage or acrylics. Because they are oily/wax it's harder to layer a Neo on top of another Neo. You could blend a bit easier if you use them like paints. Add some water and paint with them. Keep experimenting please - they are great tools!
@@AndreaGarveyArt thank you for your answer, but I was referring to the three-in-one Stabilo pastels, it is with these that I was saying it is impossible to overlap etc. Instead I know that the Derwent neocolors are fabulous. Big blessings and a hug.
