To be fair, every single generation says this about whatever times they grew up in. Every generation before us said it, Millenials said it, and Gen Z are starting to say it. It's got nothing to do with whatever era we grew up in, and everything to do with the fact that childhood is a warm, nostalgic place. The reality is that when this song came out, Thatcher's grip was starting to destroy the country, and the Cold War threatened to destroy the planet.

I turned 15 during the middle of that year, and I was in hospital for a short time - four days - to have an operation on my ears. Piece of more to come
Yay 1980s I was 23 when this great song was released 😀...... Now 60 ☹️... lol.
📺 I ♡ the 80's! 📻 (Class of '83)
Early 1980s were the best, this group was awesome
I remember this! What a renaissance. Hurray for women musicians, forever!
Why did this song just suddenly pop into my head out of nowhere after 30 years?
I have their Sign of the Times album protected in plastic. The 80's were my favorite time period. I have always loved their style and they can entertain!
This always reminds me of Scarborough sea front in 83 and the memories come flooding back. I feel so sorry for the youth of today who missed those great times and great music.
