These very helpful videos helped decide which old Ford tractor to buy and what to look for. Yesterday we acquired a 640 which has been upgraded and had much work, and I can't wait to go through everything, new fluids, etc. It's a piece of American history and we will enjoy using it, and will use your parts. Thanks for the videos that are so instructive that it gave me the confidence to buy such a cool old tractor.
A retired farmer in my community gave me his 800 that was bought new for his farm here in Texas. I've been wondering about all of its attributes and you have demonstrated them well. Thank you Rachel. Looking forward to restoring this old barn kept beauty and will post a video of it as soon as it's completed.
This video made my day. Bought a 600 series tractor the other day. Knowing little about this stuff this video helped a whole bunch. Turns out the tractor isn't a 600 series. The nut on the axle was the dead give away. According to the serial number I'm a proud owner of a 53 NAA. So in my opinion and some research I have seem to be blessed with a special first tractor. Fuel system needs to be refreshed and other than that seems perfect. Thank you for the great videos. I'll be in touch soon.
WOW again!! I always have to view her videos 2-3 times. First time Im so stunned at how pretty she is, that I miss what all she is trying to tell us! Then I go back again, sometimes twice, to get the message. Alwayssss learn lots from these videos,,,,many thanks for teaching an old guy new tractor knowledge!!
Thank you so much, this video was extremely helpful. Thought I had a Jubilee but turns out its a 600 series. I just got it yeaterday and the person I got it from wasnt sure what it was. Thanks for the help!
Yeah a lot of people can't tell them apart my father-in-law has an 8N and 9N and a 900 series and I have the 800 series 850 you can't beat these old tractors I love you videos keep them coming
Excellent, lots of good information in this. Going to watch it several times so I can remember it all. Rachel and Dan, I really enjoy the videos that you all post. I have always had a love affair with any kind if farm tractor. Thanks, and them coming!
I have a 1950 8n, and a 1955 850 The 8n has the extra transmission option and it can go quite fast pretty handy, and the 850 has power to do most things mines pulled a load of hay estimated to be around 12,000 lbs up a slight hill and it seemed to barley break a break a sweat ( if tractor could do that) It's funny that today the 8n's 20-25hp is low, some lawn mower models have as much or even more hp yet the amount of work you can do with one and versatility is amazing this is probably why it's the best selling lawn/garden tractor of all time and I'm glad to have one
Keep in mind Briggs was already sued multiple times for their BS hp ratings stickers. My old 1976 C-160 Wheel Horse 8spd/Kohler K-Series runs circles around my bro n laws Bad Boy Zero turn with a 24hp BS. Btw after a couple yrs he's already had more issues on it than I have in 40yrs on my WH. Nothing made today like yesterdays tractors.
Getting parts for ours is always a fun task. It was a very early 600 and some of the parts are still NAA parts. For instance, the carburetor is different between the two models and our 600 has the NAA carburetor.
Hej! Lubię Twoje filmy, zwłaszcza z dwóch powodów, za entuzjazm w przekazywaniu wiedzy i łatwe, zrozumiałe wyjasnienie technicznych szczegółów budowy tych pięknych startych ciągników!
this was somewhat helpful. My three number are: 841 and below that is 12649. The old manual for the tractor references series 2000 and 4000 tractors. I was serving the transmission, hydraulics and differential and the manual states for the differential use 8 quarts for 2000 series and 11 quarts for 4000 series. I'm trying to figure out how much fluid to put in my tractor differential. Do I have a 2000 or 4000 series?
Question. When I was a boy my grandpa had a jubilee and a 560 and 640, as I remember. He farmed 2,500 acres in South Georgia. He also had an H John Deere that he used for odd jobs. I usually drove the Jubilee but I drove all of the Ford tractors at one time or another during the summer when we visited their home. I got paid the same as all the help - $4 a day but they fed me well, usually fried chicken, fried corn and buttermilk biscuits, not to mention ice tea.
Could you please go over the technical way to identify your tractor. The ISO-20 makes references to numbers, a sequence which identifies this , that, options, etc. I am just not making any sense of it. TY
Great video! You certainly know a lot about those tractors! One note -- We have a 1955 Ford 960. Of course it is a tricycle setup, but it does not have power steering. I don't know if this is common on this particular tractor, or not.
I don’t know if you will get this. I am 74 and got my first ford tractor 841 diesel. I am trying to replace my power steering belt. Can’t find the adjustment. Don’t know how to separate the hydraulic pump shaft. Please help Thanks Tim.
I have a ford tractor I’m trying to find a year on. The hood says “ford 801 select o speed. There are two numbers stamped just behind where the starter mounts. The top number says 861. Below that it says 47591 between two diamonds. I have a 5 speed transmission with pto and 3 point. I’m trying to find out what category hitch this has and what year it is as I will be seeking this tractor. I appreciate any help!
It's still hard to determine exactly what model we have or the year made. It was my parents tractor and my son wants it completely restored. The numbers say 651 on the bell housing next to the loader mount brackets. It has the hood that says 600 but that could have been replaced at anytime before my parents bought it. Any idea how to determine what the motor is?
I have a Ford Golden Jubilee 1903-1953 but the serial number starts with NAA and has five digits. Is this a 1954 model? So I can buy the Ford Jubilee manual or Ford Naa manual and its the same?
Thank you for your videos. I run my Ford 2n with a loader very hard (whole tank a day -- 10 hours) and I am constantly breaking it. I get about 4-5 tanks before something breaks. Just yesterday the front hydraulic shaft ate itself, but I mig welded on top of the missing the keyways and setting up my lathe/mill to clear it out. Also I am very upset because I think you got married and are no longer available.
Hi Rachel or anyone who could answer my question. I just bought my first 8N and I am trying to determine its year. I found on the rear axle housing numbers stamped into it one being 8N another being 4013 and the last being 12-27-47... Is this set of numbers the production date ??? Thank you ahead of time for all replies...
Recently purchased a Ford 600 series - 650. Trying to positively ID the year. I believe its a 1955. Transmission is 5 speed. It has PTO. Any help in ID'ing the year would be greatly appreciated.
I just bought a 8n, it doesn't have a engine oil filter or even the bolt holes to mount it and no serial number. It has a crankcase vent tube and distributor in the spot the filter is supposed to go.
Jarrod Arnett on which side of the engine? The NAA/600 was almost a mirror image of the 8N when it comes to the carb/intake/exhaust and distributor. The NAA/600 family has the intake on the clutch pedal side and distributor on the brake pedal side. Some 8N had the distributor on the front, but the carb and intake was on the brake pedal side for them.
Hello, I know this is an old video but I just bought a tractor and I do not know what year or model it is. I found 641 with 77344 in-between diamonds stamped on it. It looks like someone painted it blue and it has red paint under that. Hope you can help because I really want to fix it up. Thank you.
You probably don’t by chance know the value of one of these if you were going to buy them because I’m looking at what I believe to be in an NAA jubilee but not sure it belonged to my uncle and his son has it now the wiring needs to be installed but the engine has been rebuilt and I think the transmission has been gone through but it would need some redoing on the cosmetics and the hood is off of it but it has a bucket with it And I was wondering about a value range because I would like to see if he would sell it to me
Hope you can help me know what I got behind the starter iis 660 then under it there a triangle then the #105068 and another triangle. On the right side of the motor on th block a# eae1950-f can't find any other tags they say will tell you what model it is. It had a5 sped tran. The kind that does not have a runner boot on it .its all metal shifter. The only thing rear end managers 14 in not 18 thanking it's a 600. It has a double clutch.that number 105068. Tell you what year it was made in thank you love you videos
I am getting ready to start working on a 800 series tractor. I have not determined what is the problem with this tractor. Pto shaft does turn, but the tractor will not move in any gear. I'm looking for repair manuals with pictures so I can see what I'm getting into. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Jonathan, I bought a I&T shop manual FO-20 for my 641. It covers 501, 600, 601, 700, 701, 800, 801, 900, 901, 1801, 2000, & 4000. 142 pages good diagrams There are about 12 copies on ebay from 15 on up.
Hello!! Hope all is well. I recently purchased an 800 series with the backhoe already attached. Guy said he could get the PTO hooked up. After running the serial numbers it looks like it was not issued PTO at the factory. Any chance i have a rebuild of some sort or just a backhoe attachment that i can’t use? Thanks! The SN: 820 102911 = diamond stamp
I have a 961 Ford tractor it was 6 volt. and it is wired as an 8N Ford tractor it will not run now since changed it over to 12 volt with 8N Ford wiring how do I switch it over the wiring so it will work with us 961 Ford
---I just bought, supposedly, an 800 (emblen on hood) backhoe/loader. I do not see the ID #'s where they should be on the tran case. Are they stamped or raised? They might be filed with paint (yellow, blue and red underneith). Also, I would like to determine the engine that might be retro. The --#s-- are cast= 75v1. Also looking for carb erbuild kit. A Zenith with aluminium tag lots of --#s-- there, 88NNA being the bottom #. Might you have any info for me? or a link to whewre I might find more info---- thnk you for your time---- Jess---
Great info, but what about the "Row Crop" differences of the 700 and 900 series? The narrow front was the smaller aspect of these, with the big difference coming with the additional vertically offset gearbox located out at the end of the axle housing and thus providing the additional height for dragging corn and other high crops without damage.
I have eggshell grill. But that apparently only comes on the 58 800 So I'm confused because I'm measured The back and only got 14" so that would say that I have a 600 and all this stuff is crazy
Very nice video. You are very knowledgeable with the Ford Tractors. Question for you, I have a 600 Ford Tractor. I watched you replace a water pump on a Ford 600 I think it was. What are the torque specs on the bolts for the water pump? Thanks for any help. Also. I was going to use a gasket sealer. Do you recommend that? Thank you.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, in the last couple years I started collecting fords. My most recent is a 2n or 9N according to the serial number it's a 41 model but it has the rounded radius arms like the 2 n. I have got a ford 4000 industrial backhoe I believe it's 62-64 where can I find the serial number on that tractor to determine the year model? It's probably the same for all three years but I've got to order an engine kit just wanted to make sure I get the right parts. Any help is greatly appreciated ! thanks again !
Great information. I tried to find the numbers on my Jubilee and I do not find anything. I looked where you show on your video and I see no numbers. No engraving of numbers. Where else would I check on the tractor?
Sometimes the numbers have been sanded down or painted over and are no longer readable. If you know your tractor is a Jubilee, the numbers shouldn't be of high-importance--knowing for-sure what model you have will suffice. You'll be able to buy the correct parts or restore it correctly even without those numbers.
Dan Gingell and Rachel Gingell Thanks for your great work. I'm having 2 problems with my NAA.One identifying the replacement engine .I've used your info as to where the engine number should be and find nothing, even after scraping and sanding. Nothing but the foundry numbers which are :EAE 6015-F,36R 2,A8.Can you help me, please I promise I'll buy several of your videos. Second problem is with the clutch. I've replaced many clutches and it's always been a straight forward job, until now . I've split the tractor with bucket 3 times. New clutch kit (Yesterday's Tractor ),new clutch release arm kit, correct free play adjustment. And still I can't get enough throughout travel to totally disengage the clutch. Am about out of ideas and definitely tired of this job. Any suggestions Jess McLeod at jhmcleod47@gmail.com Thanks
I’ve got an 860, 1957 with starter issues I am unable to remove the starter from its mouth location it will slip back about half an inch but no further. The failure occurred immediately following start up with a very high-pitched whine and I immediately shut the tractor down I suspect the Bendix has had a catastrophic failure and actually has a tang or something hanging up behind the flywheel aside fromSplitting the tractor is there a technique to get that starter out
If it is like my 601, take the oil filter off, the bendix is "in backwards" compared to modern starters do, it is in behind the flywheel, so yes you need to manipulate it to get it to clear. If the bendix is extended, as it sounds, the brush end may need to get close to the block as it moves towards the generator to clear. Have fun
My grandfather had an 8N which he, I believe, bought new in 1948. In 1968 it was stolen, and he bought a used NAA or Jubilee. In 1987 when he gave up the farm he sold the Jubilee, with all the implements. It was a sad day. I actually have his ledger, and was able to look up all this stuff to be sure of the years. All the prices are there too.
I think I have a 8n motor on an earlier 9n.i beam radius, smooth rear hub on one side, key on right and starter button on left side of steering wheel.havent seen one like it before
Yes! Look on the frame where the model number is located. Underneath the model number will be a serial number. You can cross the serial number with info at tractordata.com.
micah it has a dual position shift on three levels. On the top level it is 3rd towards the front of the tractor and Reverse back towards you. Middle level is 1st to the front and 2nd toward you. Bottom level is 5th to the front and 4th toward you. Center on any level is neutral and allows you to go up and down between levels. It is setup to make it easier to upshift. The most common gears are 3rd and Reverse to they are on top and positioned relative to the direction of travel. The middle level is hardest to get to do it is first and second where you find the level while stopped instead of mid shift pattern. The idea is also to go back to front or front to back on any given shift so it is smoother, instead of back to back or front to front which would be harder since you change shift direction mid shift. Lastly you can shift from 3rd to 4th by going from front to back while also going from top to bottom. R 3 Top Level 2 1 Middle Level 4 5 Bottom Level
I've been trying to find more details about the 800 that I have. It has the 4 cyl diesel. It seams to be a hybred of some sort. Do you have more info with tractors that have this setup? It states, Ford Industrial Engine, Type:COPB-6002-BE options: X0-1200 S#3758-E9KA.
Unless someone has changed the motor through the years, your NAA would have the 134 (also called a Red Tiger). However, it is possible that the motor has been swapped through the years. Look for a casting number on the right hand side of the block just above the oil pan, should say 6015...and a letter. If you can find the casting number and reply here, I will look it up and verify it for you. -Rachel
Hi I'm from Venezuela, I have many doubts I bought a tractor that claims to be a 2000 std ford but at first glance I think it's an 800 series, how can I contact them?
OK this is weird, she said I should have a 3 digit number on top of the other...I have a 41 and nothing else. Not rusted or anything. All numbers are clearly read. The bottom numbers are 79479. So a series 700 ? No nut on axle, has PTO. Does NOT have the close front tires tho.
me and my dad just bought a ford 8n. it is currently a red engine and trans-axle with white sheet metal. i have seen them with a blue engine and trans-axle. is that a correct color scheme? also, how can i tell the year on it?
I have a golden jubilee I got from my dad, and my ex fiancé's grandfather had a ford 2000 with very similar body, and he had a 801 select-o-speed with a Diesel engine.
Yes, it sounds like an 800. It's possible the 8 has worn half-way off to look like a three. Underneath the three digit number would be the serial number which would allow you to decipher the year. Look at tractordata.com for a free serial number chart.
Hi Rachel...I'm thinking of purchasing a 601 Select-o-Speed. Do you know of any inherent problems with those. The seller does say it needs some work, including valve springs. Should I be scared off? Thanks for all these awesome videos.
Josh F there transmission are junk once they go bad you might as well push it off a cliff ask around you'll hear the same we had one tranny went so we got model 800
Can you tell me what size tires you're running on the front of the 600. I'm looking for a 16 size car tire that'll work instead of the 3 rub style. Thanks!
I hope someone will respond too this or even be knowledgeable about the 801 series tractor trans. So my paps a long time ago took apart the trans top off and some copper part "disnegrated" he says it goes down too the trans and there has to be a certain length per gear (goin off what he says which i dont doubt) and ive asked forums and they say they make this part but they dont.If you know anythin respond and id like too email you personally. If not they say its goin in the junkyard..which i dont want.
I’ve learned more in under 5 minutes listening to this young lady than I have reading all weekend about these tractors…. And she’s cute to boot

Hi Rachel I am trying to identify my ford tractor it doesn't have 3 digit # it has 4 first is an I 821 I'm confused
What motor does the 1953 golden jubilee have ?
So if my first digit is and 8 then I have and 800 series tractor? Thank you
I have an 820 with PTO, 3point, and 5 SPEED, with power steering ??
what would a 3 speed be in that axle in the middle ? with nut on it
Very very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to do this video!!!!
Hello Rachel, what size and type battery for the 600 do you recommend.
Have a early 600 has a rear axle with nut ?
I have a Ford Golden Jubilee 1903-1953 but the serial number starts with NAA and has five digits. Is this a 1954 model?
So I can buy the Ford Jubilee manual or Ford Naa manual and its the same?

So a 600 series 4 speed built in 1958 should have the #641? Is it still considered a 640?
Thank you for the info! Just found out mine is a 54 not a 53.
What’s the difference between a Jubilee/NAA and a 1962-64 Ford 2000?
Hi Rachel or anyone who could answer my question. I just bought my first 8N and I am trying to determine its year. I found on the rear axle housing numbers stamped into it one being 8N another being 4013 and the last being 12-27-47... Is this set of numbers the production date ??? Thank you ahead of time for all replies...
Recently purchased a Ford 600 series - 650. Trying to positively ID the year. I believe its a 1955. Transmission is 5 speed. It has PTO. Any help in ID'ing the year would be greatly appreciated.

Jarrod Arnett that would do it

I have one with a diesel engine. What model is that. It looks like a 600 or 800 but it's diesel
Mine says 8 n b nc11 what does that mean
How do you find the year on a 8n Ford tractor

Can you give me a site to go to, to find out what my 1857 Ford Workmaster tractor tires should be originally?
Hope you can help me know what I got behind the starter iis 660 then under it there a triangle then the #105068 and another triangle. Ok what if you have a 9n that has 3 transmission and has pto what that then
Thank you with yr very smart gal telling us about this tractor

Thanks!

Might you have any info for me? or a link to whewre I might find more info---- thnk you for your time---- Jess---
I'm gonna have to make me a note file to take with me on the hunt. Thanks for the info!!
Great info, but what about the "Row Crop" differences of the 700 and 900 series? The narrow front was the smaller aspect of these, with the big difference coming with the additional vertically offset gearbox located out at the end of the axle housing and thus providing the additional height for dragging corn and other high crops without damage.
Hi I watch your videos on TH-cam I have a Ford tractor the number is 620 but it has PTO and 3 point hitch is this rare? Thank you
Great video. Thank you.
Rick brisco Jones
she set me straight , never new to me it was an old Ford tractor
This girl is good telling technical things. Amazeing for a girl !
Nothing but the foundry numbers which are :EAE 6015-F,36R 2,A8.Can you help me, please
I promise I'll buy several of your videos. Any suggestions
Jess McLeod at jhmcleod47@gmail.com Thanks
Mon is smooth move on the rear actual so I don't know whether it's 6 or 800
I’ve got an 860, 1957 with starter issues I am unable to remove the starter from its mouth location it will slip back about half an inch but no further.
Have fun
mine is 820 but has pto and no 3 point hitch
My grandfather had an 8N which he, I believe, bought new in 1948. In 1968 it was stolen, and he bought a used NAA or Jubilee. In 1987 when he gave up the farm he sold the Jubilee, with all the implements. It was a sad day. I actually have his ledger, and was able to look up all this stuff to be sure of the years. All the prices are there too.
MillerMeteor74 My life mission would be to find the asshole that stole that 8N, and run them over with it
I agree with you. Too bad it was 50 years ago. But my father could have tried to hunt him down. It's strange that the police never recovered it.
MillerMeteor74 maybe they stole it. I cant imagine someone doing that
I think I have a 8n motor on an earlier 9n.i beam radius, smooth rear hub on one side, key on right and starter button on left side of steering wheel.havent seen one like it before
Great information! Thank you
Hello this is the information on my id plate. Ford 960 50 Serial Number S13273. What year model is my tractor?
i have a ford 600 but i dont know the year is there any way i can find what year the tractor is?
Yes! Look on the frame where the model number is located. Underneath the model number will be a serial number. You can cross the serial number with info at tractordata.com.
Thank you
Great info thanks for sharing this
What a knowledgeable lass 👍
I have a ford 600 model 640. How do I tell the year? And under the 640 I found 1030520 this is what I could make out of it
Shannon Robbins I don’t think the numbers went quite that high, but I know how hard they are to read. Good chance it is a 1957 though.
Do you have a video on how to change gears on a 1955 ford 650?
micah it has a dual position shift on three levels.
R 3 Top Level
2 1 Middle Level
4 5 Bottom Level
Good information
EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks very much.
the three numbers as I read them are 321. My grill looks like the "egg shell" pictured you showed. Do I have an 800? How do I tell the year?
Great Video!
Thank you , very helpful .
I've been trying to find more details about the 800 that I have. It has the 4 cyl diesel. It seams to be a hybred of some sort. Do you have more info with tractors that have this setup? It states, Ford Industrial Engine, Type:COPB-6002-BE options: X0-1200 S#3758-E9KA.
how do I know what motor mine has? I have an NAA it looks like
Unless someone has changed the motor through the years, your NAA would have the 134 (also called a Red Tiger). However, it is possible that the motor has been swapped through the years. Look for a casting number on the right hand side of the block just above the oil pan, should say 6015...and a letter. If you can find the casting number and reply here, I will look it up and verify it for you. -Rachel
Have. A 3000 that the rear hyd. Does not work reason?
Thank you I like ford tractors
Hi I'm from Venezuela, I have many doubts I bought a tractor that claims to be a 2000 std ford but at first glance I think it's an 800 series, how can I contact them?
Nothing better than a gorgeous girl that knows tractors
Helpful information.
Happy Sunday and a Thumbs Up liked.
Soooo helpful!!!!!😄😄😄
Mine has the 18 inch "pig" rear end, but the first of the top 3 numbers is a 3. Could it be a miss stamped 8?
Yes, it sounds like an 800. It's possible the 8 has worn half-way off to look like a three.
Underneath the three digit number would be the serial number which would allow you to decipher the year. Look at tractordata.com for a free serial number chart.
Did you ever say what size the Red Tiger engine in the Golden Jubilee/NAA is?
She said 134 cu. in. at the 1:22 portion of the video.
Thanks Mike...I was having the same thoughts about that, so I ended up getting a 1941 9N at the same auction and have really enjoyed it so far.
Can you tell me what size tires you're running on the front of the 600. I'm looking for a 16 size car tire that'll work instead of the 3 rub style. Thanks!
Can somebody make a video of a 961 6 change to a 12-volt Date is May 23 2019
I hope someone will respond too this or even be knowledgeable about the 801 series tractor trans.
