    This is amazing. I hate the paint rub when coloring joints with acrylic- great solution!

    That’s perfect thanks, I was actually planning on getting a couple of those storm shadows as they’re quite cheap now. So now I know how to turn them into Red Ninjas. 👍🏻

    Awesome video! I had heard that you had to boil acetone to dye plastic- I'm so glad that isn't the case!

  • @BrynSmith76

    I'm really impressed with the results of the red. At the start I was thinking that the results wouldn't be that good. I'm pleased to see I was mistaken.
    I think dying, particularly for the joints, is a great option to go along with additional painting of the figure. A massive prep saver.
    When you did the black dye, did you save any of it to try and use later to see if it had the same strength with regards colour?

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a huge time saver.
      What I’ve found is the strength of dye is all based on ‘cook time’ so the longer you cook, the darker the result.
      There was one knee cap I missed in the red and left it in the same length of time as the torsos and it was really dark compared to the rest.
      Didn’t save any black but from what I’ve heard the dye lasts if stored correctly

    You want to be careful with heat and the hard plastics that the torsos are made of because if it's got enough, the plastic will warp

    Do you think this dye can make an already red figure a darker red? I'm planning on dying an Scarlet Spider body to make a custom Daredevil, hoping the dye turns it darker, what do you think?

    Great video! The only thing I'm curious about is reassembly after dying. Would using hot water to re-soften the parts diminish the dying at all?

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t found that to be the case personally.

    Can you mix different colors from this brand? I need a dark brown but they only make chocolate for the synthetic. Was thinking of blending chocolate brown with a little bit of the graphite to get a dark brown that’s close to black, but still noticeably brown in comparison.

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually don’t know as I’ve never tried that. Logic tells me it should fine. Do let me know though if you do it if it works or not

      @@JacobsToys definitely will do. Can you dye a figure twice? Like if the first time doesn’t get dark enough?

  • @brandonpower5188
    @brandonpower5188 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When “bathing” them to separate the parts, do the joints lose their integrity at all when putting the pieces back together?

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the brand, so far with Hasbro stuff I find that when reassembling if you run then under cold water once put together it tightens everything back up. Squeeze knees and elbows a little to help them reform

    would this work on the phicen tbleague seamless bodies? they're rubber.

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I don’t know. As it’s boiling water I would think that the runner would warp or misshapen. I think the only way to know would be to test a figure (or something of the same material) in boiling water. If you do try, do let me know the result!

    I really hope you respond here.
    Is there any way to dye a Marvel Legends Hood torso but protect the neck and shoulders from the dye? I'm just trying to dye that shirt red but I have never had luck with cracking torsos so removing those parts isn't really an option.

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey.
      If it is just the shirt you want a different colour then I’d say paint it. There shouldn’t be any areas that rub in just the torso if I’m reading your comment correctly

    How long did you boil them before they changed color?

    • @JacobsToys

      They start changing almost straight away. Cool them for as long as you think. The longer the darker the dye goes. To be honest I do a lot of the process by eye

    Hello. I'm about to start my 1st ever custom and have a black figure I want to turn yellow. Do you have any advice on this using this method? Would bleaching the figure white 1st work? Many thanks

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  ปีที่แล้ว

      Going from black to yellow you’d be better to sand and paint. Yellow is a difficult colour anyway but on a black base dye isn’t the answer

    How in the world do you get this little joint pegs back in after dye the parts. It is impossible

    • @JacobsToys
      @JacobsToys  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pop it all in a cut of boiling to hot water and then after a couple of minutes the plastic will be warm. Line it all up and use something hard to push them through, pliers work but be careful not to imprint on the plastic
