This tuning thing is one of my favorite examples of how people refuse to accept that they know what they're talking about. This man knows he's making lessons for people who may have never picked up an instrument before, but he never stops talking as he tells us to listen for a note. It's really interesting.
Good lesson. What I didn't like is that when you ask for the audience to listen to the sound of the bass, you keep on talking so we/they don't get a chance to actually do so.
I feel like tuning by ear is a little more advanced than most people should be if there looking up basic bass lessons. This could discourage quite a few people. And it's something that comes naturally over time.
+pharbour24gmailcom Yes it does. The interval(difference in pitch) between each of the strings of a bass, be it 4, 5, 6 or more, is a perfect fourth(5 semi-tones). Each fret position represents a difference in pitch of one semi-tone, thus the next string up will correspond to the 5th fret position of the string you've just tuned. If you have a 5-string with a low B and you wish to use standard tuning(B E A D G) you could tune the upper 4 strings(E A D G) the same as in this video and then tune the low B by fretting the B on the 5th fret and matching its pitch to that of the open E. If you have a 5-string with a high C(E A D G C), continue the process as in the video and fret the 5th fret of the G to tune the C. I hope this helps.
When you hear bzzz , your neck is hump back , you want little relief or bow , look down the neck from the headstock using the G string as a straight edge , pop a chalk line.
He talks every time the note is played making it hard to tune. Why they would put it in the lesson that way makes no sense to me. The verbal part of the lesson is good though. They should take down this and do it over without him speaking during tuning...it’s counter productive.
Tried to tune but he talked while I was trying to listen. Now my bass now sounds like an Englishman.
LOL
LMFAO
As it should, just like the video was trying to teach you. :)
Tried to watch this video now I'm a blind bass player
your bass never sounded better
I am a 54 year old picking up a bass guitar for the first time. Your videos are amazing.

Good thing he strarts to talk everytime the pianokey is played, makes tuning very eazy
Use this www.harmonize.com/metropolis/online_pitch_pipe.htm
I bet this video is not intended to be used as a pitch reference in and of itself :)
just buy a tuner for $20, it will last you the rest of your life, and you can learn by ear while your at it.
XD was thinking the same
he has a very soothing voice
You're a great teacher! Thanks!

Its hard for me to get my pinky finger away from my ring finger, is there any way to improve this?
Practice.
practice stretching, eventually it will have the strength to do so. Unless you have a condition that makes it impossible.
the playlist is a little out of order
Help!! I can't get mine tuned!!😰
+MusicCollegeTV Does this tuning method work the same for 5 string basses?

How can i hear the tuner if you talking?
watch the dial - it's fun
can this five fret method be used to tune an acoustic guitar??
yes but when you're tuning the B string, place you're finger on the 4th fret of the G string instead of the 5th.
Thanks
anyone can tell me the recommended height of the strings from the fingerboard?
+Ulises Gongora just before but not after fret buzzzz
+Mark S B. What do you mean?
When you hear bzzz , your neck is hump back , you want little relief or bow , look down the neck from the headstock using the G string as a straight edge , pop a chalk line.
I'm not exactly sure where my fingers should be, kind of like home row on a typewriter.
I don't understand
I have brain loss
Use an electric tuner and make it go to '0'.
when referring to tuning the other 4 strings it got a little confusing to people who dont read music..
My tuner says my E string is an A?/?
Just bought a bass. Struggling to tune
So what?were expected to have a piano on hand?
