Honestly, you should be so proud of yourself for continuing to read any books while working and going back to school! You had an amazing year. I’m impressed. 😊
I agree with this! I also both work and study + have a bunch of other commitments in my free time (such as weekly violin lessons I have to practise for), and my reading noticeably dropped😅
I enjoy hearing people’s end of year stats as much as I love hearing about their favorite books of the year! Love, love, love how detailed yours is! I met my reading goal of 45 books, but I was surprised that I did because I had two months where I didn’t read anything. The reading slumps were real in 2024 and mostly due to trying to read what some of my favorite Booktubers were reading so I could participate in discussions. There were a couple of books I should have dnf’d, but I’m stubborn. This year I’ll be much more picky about what discussions I join. I also want to reread more. I haven’t reread a book in over a year, and I’d like to go back to some favorites.
I used to feel that way about audiobooks but I started listening while driving to and from work. I find if I'm doing something else, like driving or cleaning or doing laundry, I can listen to audiobooks and really enjoy them. It makes nonfiction easier for me too. I can't just sit and listen though. Physical books I usually take my time with. I want to read more new-to-me authors this year, more nonfiction, and more classics. I'm such a mood reader though, that we'll see if it happens. 😂
Hello ! I read 57 books in 2024 after my huge reading slump of 2023. (14 books). I just checked how many were translated and 29 were ! Which is over 50% which is really good. I actually read a ton of books from Asia (South Korea, Japan mostly) and also Russian and a book from South America. Like you, I read mostly in English (same with the translated books, I always prefer the English one) and rarely in my native language (French) and actually the only books I read in French this year were actually translated from another language LOL So this year, I'm starting a book written in French by a French author. The last time was when I read Les Misérables. Of course, French classics will be read in French .. I also want to read more non fiction like you. I know how hard it can be to associate work/studies and personal reading, so congrats ! Wishing you a great reading year in 2025 !
I met my goals last year but I’ve found I may have overdone them so I’ve revamped everything this year. The amount of unread books on my shelves has begun to overwhelm me, so my one and only goal for 2025 is to read a minimum of 70 books from my shelves. Any books I purchase this year won’t count towards that goal either. I made my goodreads goal 70 so I can keep track of my progress. All the other goals I did for fun I’m now considering habits. And while I may continue them I’m not specifying them as goals because I find the overachiever in me can’t rein it in. I’m a mood reader too and having set tbr’s, or books I had to read almost put me in a slump during the last quarter. So I may jump into a booktube challenge or readathon now and then, but I’m not listing any as goals. I always enjoy your videos and I’ll be looking forward to all the books you bring to us this year. 💕
The detailed categories you put in your stats are impressive. I didn't meet my 2024 goals. For 2025, I established goals that are fairly easy to achieve
2024 was a good reading year for me, mostly 4-5 stars, some DNFs, and one 2 star. The only goals I have for 2025 is to read 25 books; I read 40 in 2024. And to read seasonally, some books from other countries, translated; I also have nonfiction to read, maybe a classic or two. Trying to read a book on my Kindle in addition to physical books I own, plus some library reads.
My reading goal quantititywise are 52 books, too. Looking back at the last three years, when I restarted reading in earnest after a two-year-slump, shows that more than a book a week simply isn't very realistic for me (may it be a chunkster or a short one, doesn't seem to matter).. Qualitywise, I desperately want to read "better" books, meaning: books that are more to my taste than was the case in 2024. Maybe I'm still in the progess of discovering what exactly my reading taste might be at this time and age...seems that "mainstream" books tend to disappoint. I got so many wonderful recommendations from you last year, though, most of which are sitting on one shelf or the other right now waiting to be enjoyed in 2025! Looking forward to another year with your beautiful, calm, relaxing videos!🖤
You have a lot of patience doing those stats!!! I’ve reached my goal number for 2024 but I am lowering my expectations for 2025 because I want to read some bigger books (French classic literature for example). One of my goals this year is also to get out of my comfort zone. Last year I tried a romance novel and I know it is definitely not for me. This year I’m curious about romantasy and it’s time to see what the hype is about. I am starting the first tome of A court of thorns and roses which is absolutely not what I’d go for! I also need to read a sci-fi book which is also usually not my preferred genre…. Those are small goals to broaden my horizons!
Happy New Year, Alice! If you want to read a good book set in space I recommend the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. They have lots of interesting characters and perspectives.
I feel the same about January! I read the most pages and biggest books in that month Also, I dont know if you've tried The Storygraph, but they track the genres in the same way you do, might be helpful to check it out if you want to take some tips from there to make your own stats :D
Have you read The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco? I can't remember. That would give you a bump in your favorite gothic and translated categories, though.
I met my goal and then some for 2024. I raised my goal for 2025 to 30 books and I have a few titles I’m aiming to read, instead of just reading whatever comes through my Instagram feed 😂
This is very interesting. I can't imagine keeping up with all the stats! I also do not consider 3⭐as bad. To me it is one I liked & enjoyed reading. I had a good reading year. I read more books in 2024 than I have ever read and had a lot of 3, 4, & 5 ⭐reads ☺. I admit audio books helped me do that. I have been checking out audio books from the library to help me read more books I already own. I have to be doing something to listen to an audio book though - like housework or driving without significant traffic. I always keep up with my page in the physical book in case I need to reread a particular page. I was so happy to finally get to some books that have been sitting on my shelf for awhile this way. Sadly (?) I have purchased many books through out the year. One goal is to quit buying so many 😒🤭. I haven't been following long - if you have not read Witches of New York by Ami McKay I recommend it, and Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro (though it is very long). Good luck on all your studies. Happy reading & everything else in 2025! ☺📚🌟
Yeah, I'm one of those people who treat 3 stars as a bad rating😂 It's because that rating signifies to me that a book was average, forgettable, I didn't care for it in a positive or negative way. I will forget I even read some books I rated 3 stars, whereas I can rant about two and one star books because they were obviously either really notably bad or I personally hated them. Thinking back, I don't even give out 3 stars very often because it's truly the worst insult I can give a book, that I found it so unremarkable in every single way that I can't even call it good or bad. But yeah, ultimately it depends on how you treat the rating system so it depends on the person doing the rating.
I read 106 books in 2024. My goals for this year are to read 100 books plus I am doing a wrapped up 25 in 25. I wrapped up 25 of my books and will hopefully unwrap and read all of them this year ☺
@@TheBookCastle I have seen people do it to choose their TBR books so I thought I would give it a go. Not sure how successful it will be but if I manage to read all 25 I will be pleased to have achieved that goal ☺
I'm not the biggest fan of audiobooks either! I think I finished only 5 of them in my whole life 😅 But recently I found that I quite enjoy listening to them on a long train ride. I really like ebooks though and use my e-reader a lot, but still prefer paper books 📖
...🤔 mm, i don't think those candles are real but seriously I've read around 53 books this year and remember very little of them. I think I'm going to start a notebook with each or annotations 😅
Honestly, you should be so proud of yourself for continuing to read any books while working and going back to school! You had an amazing year. I’m impressed. 😊

Fingers crossed your reading in 2025 will be good! 😃 Hope you like some of the books I’ve recommended as well 🥰
52 books has been my goal too!
2022-40!
2023-45!
2024-48!
Here’s hoping for 2025 😂
Fingers crossed! 🥰
I couldn’t agree more, Alice, I’d love to listen to audio books and rest my eyes but my mind just wanders or I fall asleep and lose my place
Exactly, we’re in the same boat! 😅🥰
Same, I've tried audio so many times but it's just not for me, my mind wanders every time!

Oooh how fun that you’re trying different things! 😃
I hope you have a great 2025! Good luck with your studies. These types of videos are so satisfying 😌
Thank yooou! 🥰❤️
Happy 2025 Alice. Im looking forward to finding out which books you recommend this year as we have very similar tastes!
🥰❤️
Happy New Year, Alice! If you want to read a good book set in space I recommend the Murderbot series by Martha Wells. They have lots of interesting characters and perspectives.
Thank you for the rec! 🥰 Happy new year!
Love hearing about your reading stats and goals, so fun! I am the same way with reading big books in January, and now started The Lord of the Rings.
I’m so glad you liked it! Ooooh that’s exciting! 😍

I only listen to nonfiction. For some reason, my mind wanders if I listen to novels. I listen when I go walking.
❤️

In 2024, my goal was to read 15 books. I managed to read 30. So, my goal for 2025 is to read 30.
Wow, that’s amazing! 😍
@TheBookCastle so I'm confused now because Goodreads says I read 30 books, but Storygraph days I read 33 books. So I read somewhere between 30 and 33.
❤📚❤️📚
🥰❤️

Hmmm they are real tho 😂 53 books is great!
