- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 29 ส.ค. 2024
- This is the song for the Jamaican Football team as they entered the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 1998.
The song is by various artists (using the name Jamaica United), starring Ziggy Marley, Buju Banton, Diana King, Shaggy, Maxi Priest, Ini Kamoze, Toots Hibbert, I-Threes, Tony Rebel, Richie Stevens, Brian Gold.
No one has posted the lyrics for this on the internet, and I have been getting lots of requests, so lyrics below!
Hey hey hey hey,
Hopes are lasting higher, higher, let nothing cave away
The expectation of a nation's like music to the ear
Oooooo we're singing a brand new song
Marching to a brand new beat
Down the inside, through the palace, filling every street
It's time to rise up
Stand and take your place (rise up)
Shine like the sun (rise up rise up)
Your journey has just begun
Rise up (rise up)
Stand like the brave (oh yeah)
Rule your destiny
Be the best that you can be
Well well well well now we start from the bottom and we reach the top of the toppa
No matter where we go you know so nothin can stoppa
We stand up and salute now to the yellowa the green and blacka
I'll make you know so [?]
The world is for your taking
Giving up is your only crime
I've written all the pages of history
This is your moment this is your time, yeah
Now we know, it's not an easy role
3'O clock, another road block (you gotta carry it alone)
Rise up (get up!)
Stand and take your place
Shine like the sun (you are just like the sun, you are just like the sun!)
Your journey has just begun
Rise up
Stand like the brave (like the brave!)
Rule your destiny
Be the best that you can be (you can be)
Triumph!
There's a winner, inside you
Just waiting to answer the call
(Answer the call I said answer the call)
You heard the voice (now make your choice)
Now make the choice
You've got to follow and start believing for you now
Rise up
Stand and take your place
Shine like the sun
Your journey has just begun
Rise up
Stand like the brave
Rule your destiny
Be the best that you can be
Mercy, mercy, mercy
Di boy dem in a di party party party
Mercy mercy mercy
Di boy dem in a di party party party
Here comes the black and the green and the gold
Control, control
Giving every ting we got
Heart, heart, heart
[?]
I still feel we been drained of success
Therefore my bredrins we got to do our best
Whether north, south, east or west
Rise up
Stand and take your place
Shine like the sun
Your journey has just begun
Rise up
Stand like the brave (higher and higher)
Rule your destiny
Be the best that you can be
Rise up

@hardblack101 It's Called Rise Up...it was done by a multitude of Jamaican artistes including Diana King, Maxi Priest, Ziggy Marley, Toots Hibbert, Buju Banton, Richie Stephens, and so many more that I probably don't even remember, in honor of the Reggae Boys, our football team that made it to the 98 World Cup in France.

Never get old
The sad fact about this generation of Jamaican players is that 3 of them lost their lives in car accidents: Stephen Malcolm, Peter Cargill, Winston Anglin, and Theodore Whitmore himself nearly died in an accident, he recovered but this isn't the end, his 14 year old son died being struck by a vehicle while he was riding a bike. It's like those men were cursed
Malcolm death was felt all corners of jamaica I remember I was teenage then it a shock jamaica we all cried these guys was hero’s to many 98 proud moment as Jamaicans

For my Nonnys Celebration of Life. She always made sure I Knew my Jamaican and Haitian Roots, even as Expats in America. She took us home. To The West Indies! The Land of The Black Gold and Green ! She introduced me to my faith,Rastafari. I'm so great full for all she's done for me and my child and nephews and nieces and her daughters and grandbabies. Gotta go be strong ... Comfort my mother and my loved ones . Thank you Nonny for shaping my destiny and my spirit... sacrificed for me to have a better life! I owe her everything.
My elder,my inspiration...Danielle. give thanks she's going home to TZION Heaven ... My Granny the freedom fighter and beautiful Black matriarch of generations of brilliant women. Thanks Granny. Never forgotten only Honor you.
By getting up and getting real and making things better by any means. In her honor and her spirit. My hero. My Granny ... She loved Jamaica best of all. She told us stories and took us home ...
I gotta not disappoint her by being weak in the face of her passage to go Home. She was my rock...thanks JA. :-(

I am!! I was 15 when Jamaica qualified in 98. As the years went by, i guess the song just faded from memory. After I heard Blake mention it in the documentary, old memories came flooding back. What a great time that was to be Jamaican.
