For me, cracker barrel is the quintessential "road trip" restaurant. I'm not sure why, but growing up we went there for every single road trip and never in any other context. So for that it'll always be special to me. The pancakes were my favorite personally.

Never saw what was so impressive about Cracker Barrel food. Don’t get me wrong, it’s decent. It fills you up without worrying about keeping it down. There’s just nothing special about it. Mama taught her boy how to cook and there’s nothing they offer that I can’t do better. We do need the fudge tasting review.
I don’t agree that it’s all that cheap although the atmosphere is nice. It’s also nice for larger groups because they offer a large menu of comfort food classics. Most people can find something that appeals to them.
There's nothing special (except the pancakes. I love their pancakes and that little bottle of warm syrup) but it's decent family friendly food and environment at a good price. The people are always nice and you can pick up a souvenir if you're from out of town. I have no complaints when it comes to cracker barrel.
Gotta say I DEEPLY respect the love for the staff. I’m not a ‘southern food’ girl myself and only hit up the CB once every five years or so when I’m out in Virginia with the DAR (best place to feed 80 plus women fast!) but I LOVE the generosity and friendly demeanor of their staff every time!

That’s obscene I’m sold 😆 I’m looking 👀 forward to visiting Cracker-Barrel 😅 that 👀 looked amazing 🤩 goood menu too 👍 the dishes you didn’t like I think 🤔 I’ll like ☝️
I worked at cracker barrel for years..... the majority of their food is a "dip ticket" meaning the food is pre made and they literally just scoop the spoonfuls of food from the warmer on the line. Now the main protein that is fried, or grilled is freshly cooked. But all sides are pre made just sitting in warmers for hours.... I would order the egg sandwich, cracker barrel sampler, or the beans n greens. The cooks always made sure I got fresh stuff tho. Meatloaf is a dip ticket item but I still love it. 😅
I'm guessing you didn't see the black waitress or the other black customer? if i saw one man with all that food i might stare too, regardless of color.
My favorite thing about Cracker Barrel by far is the store. They have some of the most unique and rarely found anywhere else stuff there! From the giant candies to the unique candies, to the interesting toys and games, to the interesting soft drinks... it's a place worth browsing around in with a few bucks in your pocket.
Cracker Barrel is like those hard candies that Grandma gave you to keep you quiet at church. It's not great, and as an adult, you know it's not. But there's something weirdly comforting and nostalgic about it. I won't seek it out on my own, but I won't say no, if offered.
Chicken fried chicken is my pick at cracker barrel with the baby carrots and green beans. It's just good for the soul comfort food. It's decent for a chain restaurant IMHO
Maybe I'm bias bc I'm from the south and places liked Cracker Barrel & Waffle House are clearly different when it's not down south. 😁 Maybe we cook things differently compared to non southern locations, Idk but when I'm home those are my go to spots.

@tellygirl83 Yep, currently in CO and we don't have a lot of soul food type of spots and when I do see one I'll ask them where they're from originally 😁
FYI, that was real maple syrup tapped from the tree, that's why it's "thin". The thick stuff like Mrs Butterworth, Log Cabin etc is fake, just corn syrup and high fructose sugar with imitation maple flavoring. I don't know of any restaurant that salt and pepper the eggs. Some people have dietary restrictions, while others don't want too much salt/pepper or want more and yet others prefer ketchup or hot sauce. It's up to the consumer to season their eggs to their individual taste.
The syrup should be thick if it's done correctly they needed to cook the water content out of it more. A lot of people where I live tap and make there own maple syrup and it takes a good two days to get it right.
Your opinions of Cracker Barrel were spot on. Overrated. Even Waffle House food is much better than what you will get at CB. People who say they love CB only do so for 2 reasons... nostalgia, or they are in fact a 75+ yr old white person.
Thing to keep in mind with chain restaurants is quality can sometimes really vary with location. I personally love Cracker Barrel but my expectations are not too high to begin with tho.
Yeah, at least with 75+ yo white people there you won't have to worry about being a victim of a crime while eating your meal or have your car vandalized - yet another good reason to eat there!
I just filled your page! You are hilarious. My only visit with Cracker Barrel here we had a Round Table of 10. We are all African American and we had a Caucasian waitress. She handed us the menus and asked were we interested in trying the Watermelon Lemonade! 👀 I said, say that again???? 👀I had to calm down for a few seconds. It was delicious! 😂😂😂😂 I had the pancakes, grits, bacon , eggs….grits were under cooked to me. Eggs I gave to hubby. Potatoes were okay.
Man, you got the wrong fried chicken. It has to be the fried chicken with the bone. It comes with a breast, leg, thigh, and wing. It hits!! That syrup also makes those pancakes an 11/10. I always ask for more syrup. ----But, at the end of the day, I couldn't agree more with your review. Most of their food gives me " tv dinner" vibes 😆.
Cracker Barrels can vary wildly from location to location. I have a belief that every cracker barrel chef does a minor twist on the recipe which can make it anywhere from amazing to horrible. Some can also not carry out recipes properly resulting in substandard food. At other locations it can be absolutely insanely good. I have been to well over 2 dozen different cracker barrels with some locations having amazing food and others inedible. Its practically a game of chance but then again with some restaurants that is just how it is. Some are amazing and some are amazingly bad.
