Just for clarification and some FAQ’s - I’m not moving away from Austin. :-) I plan to spend at least half of my time in Austin, new braunfels (near Anna and kalyce), and Boerne with mom and dad. As of now, this might just be for a few months! And I’ll likely get more time with loved ones this way (especially my parents). Every place I’ve booked to stay from Nov 10 - Jan 31 is dog friendly, so max will be coming along for all of it.
I’m just excited to not be stressed about the timing of buying a house + to be able to afford travel easier. As of now, I hope to buy a house around Feb(ish) but I’m also not putting pressure on myself to fit into a perfect timeline. This plan helps me accomplish the goal of buying because I’ll have a few more months to save, and also I won’t rush into a big decision out of fear of timing, or double-paying rent AND a mortgage.
In the next few months you’ll see solo trips, Jordy trips, mom/daughter trips, and a good handful of regular life around Austin. Thank you to those who are excited with me for a few months of adventure and freedom! And if you don’t like my plans, that’s okay. I just ask you please don’t rain on my parade. Thanks y’all, I am excited to see what the next few months bring after November!
curious if you were planning on living in extended rentals like airbnb or something like Landing / Sonder that is like a rental membership. Might be something to live into! Lowkey jealous you're doing this!!

I hope this is something you would’ve done even if you didn’t meet Jordy because we know he is a nomad too. Try to create experiences without the influence of a partner. Sometimes we tend to make drastic changes and decisions in our lives because we are “in love” but sometimes those decisions are unwise and impact us negatively in the long run. Because we never really did it for ourselves. Still wishing you safe travels Michel.
well said, i was thinking the same thing :) however, if this turns out to be a mistake, it really doesn't matter. Michel is privileged enough & has the job flexibility that she would be able to stay at her parents house or just rent another appartement. So why not just do it. Sometimes you just have to do stuff :) What i am really wondering about though is her health/stress/lupus. Travelling is very stressful on the body. Seeing new doctors is stressful..
I agree with this too but to an extent. I wouldn't be where I am today without my partner.. I moved across the country to be with him and it never felt like I did it FOR him, I did it for us. Sometimes people's other half bring out the fun, exploration, adventurous side of us and it's all part of our growth and learning :)

My fiance and I were involuntarily nomadic during the end of 2020. My advice would be to get an RV to live in. It is a nice back up. Moving every ten days or less really takes its toll. It is mentally and physically exhausting. I am not saying don't. I am saying have a definite place to go when you burnout from moving every few days. Be accountable. Keep in touch with loved ones everyday. Let them know where you are and where you're going. Be safe.

LOL noticing comments like “no just buy a house” 😳😳 girl, go adventure. A housing interruption is the PERFECT time to do that. I did this before going to grad school when I was 25, I was also newly in a relationship (who’s now my husband) - quit my job, moved out, and lived in South America for 3 months. It was so much fun, please don’t let others’ expectations or “concerns” get to you.

And it sounds like it could be a fun adventure just not sure if it seems like your dream compared to owning a house. I’m definitely doing this to grant myself financial independence to accomplish all of my goals - travel AND buy a house 🥳 seeing Jordy when I can is a perk, but I’m doing this for me. If I was living life for him, I’d just move to his city. And I’m definitely not ready to do that anytime soon. I appreciate your perspective and the way you phrased it lovingly, but I also hope others don’t rain on my parade about this because I’m SO excited to continue to explore independence in the sense of traveling around!

Especially b/c of what you went through in your last relationship...I feel you are making decisions for yourself & well-being. I also think Jordy would never want you to do it b/c of him either. Your plan is can easily be changed if it doesn't work out for whatever reason. I hope your new adventure will bring you much happiness, joy & help you accomplish your goal a buying a home. I absolutely favor the clever life change that you are making.. you should find some sort of a manageable trunk/suitcase thing, allow room for it in any car you may have, and dedicate it for your homey, comfort things.. a special little lamp, your Brooklinens, favorite makeup mirror, and brush holders, etc, etc..so, here comes Michel.!. with one tote bag, one suitcase, and her wonderful, magical trunk.. happy thoughts my dear.. continue to care for yourself the way you have.. things will turn around soon❤️

Wow I have so many questions about you moving out of your apartment. Where is Max going to stay when you're staying at places that don't accept dogs? How is your sister handling the fact that you won't be living in the apartment building that she just moved in to? What are you going to do with the storage unit where you were going to use as a filming location plus storing items like bikes, furniture etc?

Omg Michel that sounds like so much fun! I have been thinking of doing the same. I work from home on a laptop so technically I can be anywhere I want! Air B n B where ever, or live the van life. It’s a good plan. I think you will learn a lot about yourself and others, expand your experiences culturally, and have a good grasp of what you would want or don’t want to be able to settle down later. Michel that really sounds like an awesome plan! You are 25, that's exactly the right age to experience and explore stuff in life. My daughter is 17 and she's going to live and study a month in London, I'm like go girl!! That's what you need to do when you're young, don't settle down too early and get to know yourself first before you move in with your boyfriend or get married again.
Give the whole thing time. I remember the honeymoon stage with a boyfriend well........ Not raining on your parade Michel. Just my opinion. Maturity allows for different views. Keep up the therapy.

Hey Michel! So excited for you to be a nomad :) I just canceled my lease and I’m traveling to Dublin/London/Venice in October! I’m using Workaway-you should look it up! You exchange 20 hours of work for rent AND food. They’re all over the world. I did one in Oregon and worked on a farm for a month in April. Good luck! Happy for you 💖💖

I bring rolling storage bins (the kind with wheels and then a handle on one end) with me when I do a nomad adventure. I have one with kitchen stuff and some books, one with clothes, and one with various dog stuff. I just live out of the rolling bins and I dont have to unpack or rebuy herbs and oil and stuff like that. It takes 5 minutes to unload and reload and that gives me security and I feel safer in case I have to go quickly.
I dont have a bin for shoes but I recommend that with a little solid deoderizer thing in there also. I need to add a bin to my collection.

I’m so excited for you in this nomad season! My husband and I just made the decision to do something similar. We love to travel anyway, so we moved out of our apartment and put everything in storage and just plan to bounce around for the next few months (or however long). I agree though - I am concerned about eventually feeling unsettled but hopefully can just continue enjoying this time of adventure!
Being a nomad for a year sounds amazing. My husband and I are thinking of doing something similar once our teenagers are out of the house. I love watching people open gifts. I am so glad you included that. You could see pure joy in your friend's face.

Hey friend my name is Audra:) I’ve been watching you go through this last year and prayed for you.
I’m going to sound like a skeptical parent probably because I’m in my 40’s and have children in their 20’s.
I’m concerned because you just now are getting established, finding a local doc and with your health requiring rest -I wonder how you will rest with all of the traveling?Would you have decided to do this if you weren’t dating Jordy? That’s the question I think I would encourage my daughter to ask herself.
I wish you the very best! It’s just it was fun to watch you decorate and pic out cool things for your apartment and you lit up when you were house shopping….I feel like you’re hesitant about this but totally wish you the best and sometimes God’s best is to get out of our comfort zones!

I would have loved to be a “Nomad” a few years ago, you will have lots of fun ❤ Can’t wait to see all the adventures. And sure, a life change is never easy but Im sure you can do it. And if you don’t like it you can just return to rent full time in Austin. Just hope you bring Max along all the time, you are his entire world.
Your travel/rent solution....totally outside the box AND I ❤️ IT!!! This option also helps a person to be even more mindful of what they spend money on. Rather than accumulating a bunch of stuff, you'd spend it on essentials and experiences . My mind races thinking of all the new that awaits! 😀

Traveling and living as a nomad will be such a cool adventure! Couple things I thought of for you-- make sure you can get to your physician when you need to and carry some time of protection spray/device with you to the new places. Not knowing who your neighbors are, you'll be more prepared for any weirdos. Can't wait to hear about the trips!

I am so excited for you Michel! What an adventure you will have. I think it makes financial sense and also gives you the freedom to explore more. When I was in my 30s I left my job, sold everything I owned, left New Zealand and arrived in the USA with a suitcase and my pillow (and some funds). Best thing I ever did, and I never would have done it if I had heeded all the unsolicited advice 😉 I also said to myself, what is the worse that can happen, I hate it and go back home. That never happened! And that was 26 years ago. You have the added advantage of being able to work wherever you are. Go for it!

I’m not surprised your choosing “Nomad” life for a bit. You love travel. You love saving money. You date Jordy who is a “Nomad”. You will get lots of great advice from him. I know you will be looking into all aspects of the life and working out the details as you go. Lots to work out. Mail and boxes and sponsoring and what to bring with. Will need the rest to go in storage and how much will that cost. But it’s all worth it! If you don’t, then you will always wonder what it would have been like. Lots of content to come! I’m super excited! 😁
That's a massive change! And I hope it's a fun, new challenge for you. You're at the perfect phase in life to do this, and you have all the freedom to come and go as you please. It's like having freedom, but whilst you have full control of where you are, where you're going, and who you'll be with. I hope it works out for you! Can't wait to see Nomad-Michel 😁

( raised our kids in Texas )… we travel for some of my hubby’s work …. I adore all the sunsets at the beach and hiking for sunrise in the mountains 🏔…. ! I adore 🥰 Booking excursions for myself in cities we go, kinda like a recon mission and on the weekends I take my hubs to explore and ITS SO FUN AND EXCITING! When I was 21, I packed my bags and moved to Hawaii to live on an organic farm, I hopped around states spending time with friends and family, and as it turned out, because I was the only one in my family without any obligations I was able to move in with and care for my grandmother for the last few years of her life and then I met my husband and settled down, so take advantage of your youth, you have your whole life to be in one place, I'm so glad you're doing this, God is with you on this journey
