      try opening a 100million-polygons-heavy sculpt in Blender. Or a 1.5 BILLION one. :D

    Hey I think it's good that you gave credit to the reviewers and the requestor but you shouldn't forget the programmer. After all, he did the main task!

    Great to see so many people excited for this patch! :) Reviews have almost passed. We might see some progress next week or two.
    A few things that I'd like to add to what you said about baking:
    - New textures in Blender need to use 32bit float to have enough range and support negative values that vdms need
    - clamping needs to be disabled for these textures otherwise negative values still get clamped

    but how does VDM works?? pixel/texture is 2 dimensional, how to store overlapping 3d data on a flat 2d data??

    A great implementation. Getting Closer to being on par with zbrush. Still a ways to go but really dope to see coming to Blender.

      You need to use ZBrush. This is on par with MeshMixer.

      @@mematron I never said you don't need to use Zbrush but this implementation is definitely closing the gap. Still had a ways to go (especially in the performance game. The polygon limitation is really what's holding Blender back. It can do quite a bit with the sculpting features it has but I hear ya). Zbrush is the standard but.. Blender is making strides.

    And cut operations (the one thing other than VDM that ZBrush still has over Blender and a primary tool a LOT of people use for hard surface sculpting) still take until the end of time because its doing high resolution cuts using maximum precision when it should be dropping precision in ratio to the polycount of he included volume.

    Is it possible for blender as a program to get anywhere near zbrush's poly count capability?

    I sculpt a lot in blender but now I move to zbrush 😗, this function doesn't make any changes to blender, when Pablo quit developing sculpting tool, I haven't seen any changes in sculp mode from that time

    Vdm preview is better if splitted by two. Vdm map and it's preview output

    I'm happy about this, but again wondering why it came so late to Blender. This is actually a very old feature in mudbox

    Been in Zbrush for ages. Sadly I don't really use them because building parts out of a plane is just a weird way to work in the end. Wish there was a better conversion path of already made model>VDM.

    There was alpha displacement before which is for simple things but vector displacement is better

    wouldn't be so optimistic: we've seen countless times awesome features in experimental builds that were told to be implemented in the main build and nothing happened for months or years... real caustics (only shadow caustics got into the main and real were forgotten) and viewport compositor just to name a few...

    Remember to make sure that when baking VDM is to set the texture to use 32bit float as VDMs go from 1 to -1
