A fighter hits their peak when their record is 31-17-1. Thats 31 Knockouts 17 Submissions and 1 Fight where a guy verbally taps and exits the octagon as soon as he lays eyes on the biggest arms in West Linn Oregon in person.
Undefeated and undisputed Chael P. Sonnen.

What do you think about Lionel Messi scoring same amount of goals and assists, while running the lowest amount of distance in his career? What about LeBron James bumping up his average, but also moving substantially less? I have always wondered why people don’t study film of “past-prime” athletes. I’m certain GSP can still kick major ass. Nurmogomedov may not be the most gifted athlete, but he just dominates physically Just an interesting rabbit hole or debate, wisdom vs athletics.

@Jordan Russell he has a few videos on fighters who went on past their expected prime and for most of them he either references the fact they just dont seem to age the same/good genetics in that sense or mainly that like you said later in their career they switched up their style to better fit where they are now and adapted. This video was basically a blanket statement and to your points, self recognition of some sort of physical decline or simply aiming for longevity is why both Messi and Lebron made the switches youre talking about. Not everyone has the fighter/soccer/basketball IQ to be able to completely change their game plus both the people you mentioned have always been basically at the top of their sports

I gotta disagree withthe train smarter not harder...
Tony Furgeson didn’t spar almost at all during his 12 fight win streak
GSP wouldn’t workout heavy for more time than the fight was in a given day
Dan Henderson didn’t do sprints or running his whole career
There’s different strokes for different folks

@@SpodyOdy For me, PRP injections made a huge difference. Followed by consistent physical therapy at home. Listening to your body, learning when to rest. I’m one of those fighters who can’t rest when there’s a fight on the calendar. I always try to do more and more and more. I had to start forcing myself to take proper breaks and rest time. Also, realizing you don’t have to go 100% every single day. I’ll go hard for one or two days in a row, and then take a day or two to just focus on technique and really slow things down. I just fought 3 weeks ago and had the most dominant performance of my career. I had never felt so fresh and strong in the Ring before, and I credit that to training smarter not harder.

27-33 generally for UFC but of course if guys get there late like DC they can still be effective as they get older. Heavier a fighter gets the later he will peak generally

I agree with your estimation but for heavyweight; I think that, power being the last to go (or so they say), coupled with experience and an often less than stellar top 15 of... well, inception, the heavies don’t necessarily ‘PeaK’ later, but can grind it out for longer... What about your favorite Conor Mcgregor? I always felt like he worked smarter not harder. If you watch his practices its always working on techniques and doing weird stretching drills. He's not grinding like a high school wrestler trying to impress the coach. It may be why he has less stamina than a lot of guys but he still has more energy and confidence than a lot of guys.

Ive always thought that punch resistance increases with age and experience which allows fighters to hit their fighting peak after their physical peak? Do UFC fighter (or just fighters i suppose) in thier 30's run faster and further than they did in their early 20's? I doubt it, if they can their coaches should teach track and field.

Awesome take on it. I've heard that. A few others, I've noticed when a fighter starts tossing around ( been thinking about retirement), it's not but a fight or 2 they start getting beaten. Happened with so many fighters, always a sure downslide. Remembering Fedor before getting the 3 in a row losses, started tossing around Retirement talk. Among so many other greats. Remembering Robby Lawler saying he was tired of the Gladiator battles, &, was gonna start trying to fight smarter, then a downward career spiral, althoughhe still looked thr same, it was a mental thing. Also as strange as a coincidence, when Chuck Liddell put PAIN across his trunks in red. Anderson Silva put WIZARD across his trunks, they lost in big upsets. Point being it seems any kind of change as small, and, unassuming as it seems , seems to make a difference. Randy Couture as a great example was doing example the same everything in his early 40s as his early 30s, and it showed in performance, body, & mind, and, still at the top winning belts. In old Baseball they would say never change your socks or underwear during the series. Silly things but it had under meanings i believe. 👍
