I remember when working Townsville, in 1968 flood no access north or south, the ross river meat works was flooded, it had a larger flood plain but now there is a housing estate on reclaimed land opposite the army barracks, people were paddling in canoes to get to their garage which has 6ft of water flowing in it, at hermit park the race track only had 2ft of fence showing it was one big lake, the estates in the ross river valley should have never been built.

Correct. Development along rivers is environmentally and economically unsound. Rivers overflow. The water needs to go somewhere. River plains are part of how nature regulates that. The River always reclaims what
      belongs to it.

Barely any water laying around Townsville. Rain stopped at lunch time today. Looks a lot worse on TV.

Typical for the area, I remember many of these events growing up
News makes it sound like it's something new.

Not typical at all. Townsville had 709 mm of rain in the first 3 days of February which is about two thirds of their average rainfall for the whole year. That's huge.

That's funny. Ex Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery told us that this could never happen under climate change?

Global warming means when there IS rain it rains heavily, that’s how woke atmospheric condensation works

Global warming = higher condensation = more heavy rain

No. Stop murdering the English language. Residents leave as floods worsen in Townsville. The residents are leaving because the floods are worsening.
Whereas what your headline says , “floods worsen in Townsville as residents leave.” That means something else.

I'm a non-native English speaker. Even I understood the difference. This butchering of the English language happens on American news channels too.

@@raclark2730 Pull your head out. Climate change makes flooding worse and more frequent. It's simple physics.

Yes. These events are more likely now due to higher temperatures and greater atmospheric moisture content.
