    You saved me! The device i got from my ISP is a 5G Gateway. I have my suspicions that they locked out the port forwarding features and i do not trust Huawei's devices...

      Port forwarding is within the router settings page. The issue you have with using 5g /4g data plans is that the service is behind nat. So your ip is not public. If you need to be public you need another isp that offers public ip/static ip. Best wishes.

    Big question. 🙋‍♂️ do you have to use an Ethernet cord plug into your computer to access that new ipconfig/router settings

      For initial setup, I would highly suggest a direct connection, as you have to configure everything so it works and make sure it's correct without losing connection. If everything is already setup though, technically you could just go through wifi and still get that gateway IP and all that.

    Thank you, been meaning to setup my network wide pi hole for quite some time, got all the hardware and was shocked at the last step to find out these ISPs block us from configuring even the most basic settings such as the DHCP server or DNS!

      Nice! And agreed, some ISPs are better than others, but when they block basic functions this is the easiest route I've found. Good luck!

    In your guide to installing quad core on the w500 you replaced the bios chip with a heat gun & some flux paste. What temperature was your heat gun set to?

    Thanks for the great video!!
    Few questions on my end:
    Which one of these should be enabled on the modem (Router 1 in the video)
    DHCP Server, NAT, VLAN ID, Firewall
    and which one of these should be enabled on the Router 2?

      Glad you enjoyed the video!
      As for your question, once you put the original router (router 1) into bridge mode, it essentially defaults to/relies on your new router (router 2) for almost all smart routing functions. So any of those settings should be configured on the second router you plug in. Sometimes the router will actually gray out any options it doesn't need when in bridge mode, but not always.
      As for which of those SHOULD be turned on, if that's what you're asking, that depends on your needs and your network. Usually all of those are turned on or configured to some extent. I would simply look up that specific model and see what best practice is. Or you can try and copy what settings your old router had setup before you switch it.

      @@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast So putting the modem/router to bridge mode, then connecting a router in router mode with an ethernet cable, I could configure a PPPoE connection on the router and it works.
      However, I'm having difficulty understanding how what's happening at the modem-router, does it have a public IP address? Does it create a subnet of itself? Should I turn NAT on here?
      It looks like the modem-router continues to create its own network and if I connect to the router via wifi and try to access the interface of the modem-router, it doesn't work. Is this a normal behavior?

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
      @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @DenizDorukNuhoglu All settings should default to the new router hooked up. In bridge mode it acts like a dummy switch essentially, simply passes the data/info received to the second router, if it's fighting you something isn't correct. I would look up that specific router and how it functions in bridge mode.. It may be that you have to turn certain settings off so it doesn't conflict. It'll retain a private IP, and will communicate with your ISP/second router, but that's about it.

    Hey, hope you're doing good. I've got a Huawei EG8247Q ONT which has POTS, TV and is a wireless router. Will enabling the bridge mode effect the phone and TV service?

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
      @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would ask your ISP this question as it differs by router and carrier.. Some have no issues and others rely on services from the original router only.

      Not have wifi turned on, as in wifi, not internet. They are two different things. Anyway I just asked chat gpt and it guided me through making a fully synchronous wifi network mesh out of my two modem/routers. So it’s sweet now 😉🤙🏽

    I have my bridge router connected to my main router. How do I force laptops to connect via wifi to the bridge router? We power off the bridge one so the kids don't use it after bedtime.

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast

      Once the original router is set to bridge mode it should automatically default to the connected router for connections.. Just make sure that setting is changed on the original one.

      Just doing a quick search, it looks like that router has some issues bridging, as well as cell carrier routers being a bit wonky with how they handle it. Here's some forums with folks that had the same issues: community.three.co.uk/t5/Broadband/ZTE-MC888-in-bridge-mode-refuses-to-recognise-my-Linksys-Mesh-Router-No-Internet-over-WAN/m-p/33160

    Not possible with T-mobile??

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
      @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I've seen, the vast majority of routers/access points from T-mobile don't support bridge mode at the customer level. However, I'd contact their support line to make sure, as some models and plans do have work arounds.
