It can save your head slamming on steering or dashboard. But some airbags has design flaws. Like when car hits something the sensor triggers the airbags to blow out. When the airbags bursts the plastic outer body (like your steering wheel) it shouldn't create any sharpness from the plastic. If it creates any small pieces it would act like a bullet and your head will be ripped by those before the airbag reaches your face. Many companies recalled their cars due to this flaws. In western countries there are many regulations for this. You can google it like airbag failures and you can dig more.

In fact, the model X is a bigger SUV where the Model S and 3 are Sedan.
If you consider the fact, Model S and 3 have lower probability are tipping over when compared to model X.
