I am so tired of idiots ruining historic homes! Go build new ones, or buy a featureless ranch house to play with! This delighted my restoration soul!
I agree! My son and daughter-in-law lived in a muncher smaller version of this house in which the previous owner did just that. It was so sad to see that some of the significant features, such as the French doors leading into the dining room, were either gone or severely altered. A walk into the front door of this house showed me what their house should have looked like.
I lived in an old craftsman house in Pittsburgh. It had been beautifully restored but the woodwork was all painted white. The realtor told us it was damaged by 100 years of living and much of the wood had to be replaced - thus the paint as they couldn't get the new to match the old perfectly. The master bedroom still had the original wood. Fortunately things like the french doors remained.
I bought a 1912 craftsman home about 28 years ago. All the beautiful woodwork was painted, and the living and dining rooms were wallpapered. It took me 9 months to strip the wood and wallpaper. It was a huge job and one I never want to do again. Also, the cheap carpet had the carpet and pad all in one and it was glued to the hardwood floors. I pulled it up and had to hire a company to come and remove the glue. Then the floor company was able to refinish them. It turned out beautifully.
So many beautiful things in this house. The wood defines each room and yet all the public rooms flow into each other. Finally a craftsman that hasn't been ruined with contemporary interiors!
Ken, you do the best job of anyone showing houses. The way you scan the rooms is great. You give us a chance to actually see each room completely while pointing out the details. Thank you😊
My all time favorite style. It's a dream of mine to live in a beautiful craftsman, or a gothic revival from a slightly later decade. And a big THANK YOU to whoever did the renovation on it for preserving the important details of the home and, even more importantly, the style throughout. They went beyond preserving walls and swam against the current of trendy interior design. The bathrooms and kitchen are still modern and practical, but they are too "outdated" for many typical homebuyers with their retro style. Hopefully that decision will serve to attract the buyers who care about keeping the craftsman look intact.
The owners are true Craftsman lovers. They made sure to include craftsman-style furniture, which really gives the house a historical feel to the rooms. I also love how the houses of that period had the garage set back from the house. AS F.L. Wright said, the garage should not be the first thing that you see in the house. It is not a welcoming sign, the porch is.
What a beautiful old house! Back in the 90's, I owned a beautiful 1910 home on a hill in Seattle. It was much like this, but bigger and a bit more formal. wish I still owned it. Not only because it was a great house, but it has gone up in value to ten times what we sold it for in 1994.

I love Craftsman homes, and always wanted to live in one. Those built-ins and lights on either side of the "passageway" make a house a home. I always notice doorknobs. Great crystal doorknobs. Thanks again for making my day with another awe-inspiring tour.
Both sets of my grandparents grew up in craftman homes and so did my parents. When my parents got married they bought a craftman home too, they said it just felt like a home. I myself would love to have one of my own too.
I own a 1,200 sq/ft Craftsman cottage in the coastal South East. It has miles of dark, shellacked wood trim. It is a simple little house but I have not had the finances to strip the floors and woodwork. I still love it.
I tell you this is why I like your channel so much. Of the hundred or so channels slash vlogs on architecture and/or residential construction, ie, homes and DIY home fixer uppers I have not seen one, not one look at this style craftsman. When anyone talks about the American landscape like where America grew up they'll most likely review a half dozen mansions of the rich and famous or "major population centers" aka big city downtowns, but never show the actual homes everybody\s parents grew up in and half of their descendants starter homes. The American craftsman style can be found in every city from Boston to San Francisco, Seattle to Jacksonville. And how many of those starter homes became permanent as no one could find the same size for less than twice the price - if you were willing to stay in close to the city and watch as the neighborhoods decay around you. no matter how many neighborhood organizations were formed.
Hi Ken, so glad you are looking so healed and well after your accident. Your back to your top notch self. Tour was very thorough. I like how you scan the room slowly after your verbal explanation. A person can absorb the features much better. Glad your back!

What a beautiful airy well thought out house. So happy to see the brick fire place and the beautiful woodwork is not painted white. Thank goodness. This house is a preserved charming treasure. I love everything about it. My grandmothers house had a dark wood swinging kitchen into dining room door as well as a breakfast nook and farm house sink. Mud room off the kitchen. A many windowed sun room off the living room. 😊I absolutely loved that house as a child. A small back yard with a vegetable and flower garden. So many happy memories.
It is so exciting to see a home this well preserved. I am currently restoring a home built in 1926 (not craftsman, unfortunately, because they are my favorite) and my mouth dropped at the effort to detail that was put into each room, it really makes all of the difference. I wonder if the homeowners bought the furniture from Modern Bungalow because the living room furniture looks Morris-inspired. The radiator covers are the same as in my house: with the roman lattice design...and I loved the tiffany styles lamps. I didn't notice all of the window sills, usually, they are Carrara marble. I just love watching these videos so much. Ken is not condescending and teaches with an enthusiastic knowledge of architectural design.
My favorite style of architecture. Oftentimes individuals will remove the radiators because they do take up quite a bit of space and maybe aren’t aesthetically appealing, but they are the best source of heat you can have in a home. They retain the heat and don’t blow drying hot air. More important, hot water radiator heat is clean. Very nice home. Very warm and inviting.
The Craftsman style was indeed popular in California. Many of the older neighborhoods in San Diego are a mix of a few larger Victorian houses, Craftsman bungalows (though some Craftsman homes were mansions; check out the Gamble house in Pasadena!!!), and Spanish style homes built between 1920 and 1939. I love the woodwork in those homes, which can vary from simple elegance, to Frank Lloyd Wright masterpieces. It's great to see updates in keeping with the style and age of the home, that don't permanently damage it's integrity. In my opinion, ripping out built-ins like those room-dividers should be a crime, but I have seen it, all in the interest of an open floor plan. :( Glad to see you getting around better, Ken.
When I found out my friend moved into a craftsman home in Sacramento, I was like a kid on Christmas. When I came inside and saw the previous owner ripped all the walls and such downstairs, turning it into just another trendy open concept interior, I was so disappointed. The acousics are really bad in that house now because of that design choice. So now my friend's family gets the worst of both worlds: small, oddly-shaped bedrooms upstairs with no storage, fine details, or charm downstairs.
@@blazertundra That's so sad. I saw batch of videos a while back for 'Craftsman' or 'Tudor Revival' houses in Los Angeles, from the same Real Estate company. Every place was white or grey inside, with all of the wood painted and the built-ins removed. All the fixtures had been replaced with low-end modern choices. Just awful. And listed for $600K to boot. :(
@@mollypitcher9380 they have a really interesting history. Their antecedents are in England but became truly recognizable in the US. They were even influenced by traditional Japanese buildings! You're getting progressively better at this -- in terms of editing and presentation, this is the best video you've made yet. I also think touring more modest homes is a good idea, at least on occasion, as they can be beautiful in their own right and there are already a *lot* of mansion/huge house tours available on youtube!
Thank you so much! There is a group of homes, each less than 1,000 sqft, in South St. Louis that are some of my favorite in the city. I'll make sure to tour one of them if it ever becomes possible.

This house just screams his name all over it! )

What a beautiful home; just gorgeous. So lovingly taken care of and left with many original items. Woodwork is lovely. Love everything about this home.
Really appreciate how the wood was left to its natural beauty, and how the house is mainly using the creamy soft yellow shows that this house has been respected by its original design. Even the kitchen is well done imo, it’s at least gives a nod to the craftsman style.

Our sunroom was in the front and was more integrated into the design and not a separate wing. I love all the warm wood, radiator covers and cabinetry. A lovely home. Thank you Ken. Blessings - Judith 🎭🎵
LOVE CRAFTSMEN STYLE HOMES 👍✌
This house will stand longer than the new mini mansions people think they need
Glad to see you don't need the cane. Hope you have had a full recovery. I absolutely loved this house. The wood work is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Be safe and take care.
Thank you! I'm still on the road to recovery, but have figured out some creative ways to keep touring houses like I used to. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one, cheers!
@@ThisHouse oh please!
This was GREAT!! My mom grew up and went to school in Webster Groves.
I just lost my mom a year ago, so it was like a little gift.
Thank you!
(This home looks like one my cousin may have worked on to re-establish the original look. My cousin owns an architecture firm in Chicago, but our family has roots in St. Louis and Webster Groves. This house just screams his name all over it! )
Your calm and pleasant voice made this house tour very enjoyable so I've subscribed for more!
This is so charming. My sister has a. craftsman cottage & it’s just lovely. She lives on the East Coast. My son had one in downtown Denver when he first hot married. I loved his place. Unfortunately, he sold it when he had more children. Now I need to find one for me’n
Pretty and kept up. Love the upstairs!
Gorgeous!!! My family lived in a house just like this until I was 5 years old. No wonder it’s my All time favorite!
Your video was a delight to watch. Old homes have character and charm. They certainly are above the new homes, with all their lack of appeal.
Beautiful house well maintained/restored perfectly. So glad all the woodwork not painted. Love the look of natural wood!
We live in a Craftsman home, we love it, great video
Oh what an exquisite treat!
Arts & Crafts is my #1 favorite style!
Thank you for such a generous tour of all the details!
Your voice and style of delivery is so soothing. This tour took me miles away from the day’s grind! ❤️
What a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Thank you!
So glad to see you fully recovered. And I’m so excited to see you do your videos the way you have done them prior. Especially when your touring (historic houses). Please keep them coming Ken.
Thank you! I still have a long way to go with recover, but with some new editing techniques and switching up the way we film, we can bring you the same high quality tours as before.
Recovering from what?
@@jesseostone386 Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe Ken @This House was in a car accident?
This house is to die for.
Thank you for ‘taking a moment’ and not speeding through the video. I live in a Craftsman and I very much enjoyed this.
Hi Ken, as usual what a lovey Home and great viewing, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love these homes. I used to own one. It was built in 1906. It's similar to this. I loved the woodwork in my home. I also had a curved wall in living room. Mine had three steps upstairs, and three down on the other side into a nanny quarters. Then at top of three steps, the staircase turned upstairs. I also had a window at landing at top of three stairs.
Loved the home, especially that attic.
Goodness! What a perfectly appointed Craftsman Home. Really beautifully done. The owner has made it a mission to insure that every detail has been looked after! Even the newer additions have been done to follow the beauty of a Craftmans home! Oh yeah, they must love it very much!
Antique house, really beautiful! people who preserve antique houses, have great taste!
I love Ken. He makes every house feel homey.
Beautiful home 🏡
Beautiful all natural wood...but never paint on the natural wood it remove the warm and the style .Some picture dont fit with the soul of the era.But what a treasure craftman movement they were.I love detail.thanks for the visit!😍🙋💕
Gorgeous! CRAFTSMAN is my favorite style!!
My favorite style of American home 🥰
Great house! I live in a 1919 Craftsman in Boonville MO. I love how each home is different in their own way! Each is unique! 🥰
“Let’s take a moment to see this.” Indeed! Thank you for the lingering camera work on the amazing stairway!
I really appreciate this style home.
I can see the front porch is a time of socialization & lemonade 🍋 and the summer breezes through as the much of the gossip of the town does. 😲😏😁
The warmth inside is just so inviting. Just stunning. I love it!
The House Definitely Has Character
Nice sharing.
“Colonnade” between the living and dining rooms 🤠
Thank you for the tip, cheers!
Very lovely well maintained home. Hope you are feeling better Ken. Thanks for all you do for this channel! I always enjoy viewing it. 🙂
Thanks so much!
