    Good points, thank you. I have many power tools but not an angle grinder, so this helped me to narrow down my choices.

      Just got one.. not used it yet. I think they are a natural progression from files and hacksaws on certain jobs. I think the danger is that since they cost the same as drills, and are next to drills in the store... people like me dont realise they are a MASSIVE health and safety leap. Great video, glad I spent $40 bucks on armored gloves so if i screw up in the start i might have a finger left afterwards.

    in germany you can only buy grinding disks that are rated over 15000 rpm and no angle grinder goes that fast
    its illegal for a shop to sell unsafe disks

    • @godbackwards

      too much regulation.

    • @TheWtfnonamez
      @TheWtfnonamez 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know enough about the subject to comment with authority, but Ill say this: Im from the UK, I can go on Amazon and buy a grinder with any speed rating, click on disks with any speed rating, check out ...... and 24 hours later have a disk explode in my face.
      Im not a fan of over-regulation, but the German way has some merits .... for the domestic (non-trade) market definitely. (I gave you both a Like, because you both have a point)

    I have been waiting for this video!!
    Thank you very much for making this, I personally appreciate it very much. I am one of the many beginner knife makers who ran out, with zero experience, and bought an angle grinder to save time on hacksaw work.... without realising how dangerous they are if used incorrectly. I will probably watch this a few more times before I get stuck in.
    Great work once again. +1

    Hi Jeremy, i'd like to say two things:
    1-Very nice of you to support TOMS Shoes cause, 1 for 1!
    2-can you please make a
    video (or part of a safety video) on gloves? types, materials, usage... I've made 4 knives in my life and one thing i noticed is that in Knifemaking everything gets hot! grinding, heat treating, acid etching...whatever you do things heat up very fast, so i think it would be nice to talk about gloves!

      I would say for angle grinders that should be number 1!

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, I probably should have just mentioned using all your PPE as required. I was trying more to hit a few things that were specific to angle grinders with the assumption that eye and ear protection would be automatic. Oh well. I'll make sure to get the ole PPE in on the next one. Cheers!

    Upcoming project involving 440 very hard, very strong Stainless Steel. What are the features I should be looking for, HP's?, etc.
    Also, could you comment on Cordless Grinders? Any decent ones? Can I use a Cordless Grinder on my project above?
    Finally, I'm a grandmother. The weight is pretty important meaning not too heavy...... or is my material going to necessitate a heavier grinder?

    my friend never wears gloves with rotary tools and so do I because you don't get your hand stuck in the motor when the chef and then I'll pull your hand then and God knows what will happen skin grows back not bone

  • @TheAtherion
    @TheAtherion 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cant you change the rpm on the grinder ? We have a hobby Bosch one and it has the option ...
    Also .. I know it's been mentioned but ..How is a glove going to protect you against something thats spinning 15k rpm designed to cut through metal ?

    • @Simplelittlelife
      @Simplelittlelife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don’t know how a glove would protect you, you’ve obviously haven’t done a lot of grinding in your life. Work a few years as a metal fabricator, you’ll figure it out.
      Also, most grinders don’t have the variable speed option.

    lol best thing you can do to an angle grinder is take the grinder off and keep the trigger taped on....lol

  • @RoyFernbach

    Angle grinder + belt sander are the most necessary tools other than common sense.

  • @gosonegr
    @gosonegr 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In fact, you shouldn't use gloves if those doesn't fit extremly well with any belt or disc cutting or sanding tool, if the glove get trapped you'll have a really bad time, and that's how my dad lost half finger with an angle grinder.

    • @akshooter271
      @akshooter271 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      gosonegr I'd rather risk that then risk loosing more from a simple kick back
