Good to give other crafters ideas going forward. I live in the UK and have been working with resins for 30 years. You can get other metallic powders including bronze, copper and brass. I quick tip for you with coating the inside of an enclosed mould. Instead of brushing it inside, pour the powder from the bag into the mould. Give the mould a few light taps, the pour the excess powder back into the bag. This ensures the powder will get into hidden nooks and crannies. After you have wire wooled the metallic versions, if you want to create some depth, you can brush a layer of an oil based paint onto the surface. When totally dry, wire wool again. The dark paint will be left in the crevices. The great reason for doing it the way you showed, is that is more cost effective. Some people mix huge amounts of powder into the resin, which is not necessary. Any way, have subscribed to your channel. Thanks. 😊
Good vid. I work for a small company making hand cast resin chess sets and have been using marble and aluminum powder for years. Its great stuff!! We also use copper powder as the opposing side for the aluminum. You can get some great finishes on them with a bit of polishing compound.
The effects you could create with shining the aluminum in specific sections is exciting. Worn looks, antique looks, sleek looks. Resin which looks like metal. Nice stuff.
**For those in the US, please read!** I've looked into it and the price to ship to the US is basically the same as the price of the powders themselves. Powders equate to about $40, including shipping is almost $80. This is not meant to discourage or encourage anyone; this is just an FYI.
these types of powders have been around for years. People have been using them in acrylics. If you want to use it just buy some nail powders that do the same thing and are basically exactly the same as they r selling
@0 0 u can search for chrome or metallic nail powders. U can find them with all sorts of shines and undertones and even multicolored 3 or 4 tone metals
I really like the Aluminum powder and the Marble powder. I paint ceramics and can get a similar look to the Aluminum powder. I think it looks just like pewter. I just started trying resin about six months ago. I can't tell you just how important it is when you tell people to use protection against the resin and fumes. I also developed an allergy to resin after a couple of months. Of course I didn't pay much attention to using gloves and a respirator. I've never been allergic to anything before. Last month I had a terrible reaction and my entire face got a "chemical peel". It burned and was very itchy and uncomfortable as you know. My boyfriend suggested u get a new hobby, but I'm not easily deterred. I just sent for a respirator and gloves from Amazon and they should arrive tomorrow. I am so looking forward to crafting again. I love your videos. You are so personable and funny as well as informative. I have subscribed and if finances allow, I will become a member the beginning of March. I just want to say thank you for all your tutorials, tips, and tricks. Take care Charlene
@@tstuff Over 3000 degrees fahrenheit is needed to start the exothermic reaction I think it's safe enough for jewellery...you're past worrying about that if your necklace has reached that temperature whilst you're wearing it
@@crustyoldman11 I wasn't talking about actually making thermite to use. Only that aluminum comes in a powder form and can be used to make thermite if someone chooses.
They all stunning! After seeing the aluminium one, I wonder if you could aquire copper or bronze powder somewhere, and maybe use patina on it along with the polish...Sorry, this was very inspiring to watch! 🙂
I love these! and it's a great idea for my neighbor! I had been thinking of making him dominoes until i realized the things that can go wrong with resin dominoes (i don't play dominoes so i didn't have a clue) but he also burns incense all the time so i think he will appreciate these!! I LOVE the aluminum goddess
I already thought they were beautiful and then you polished the aluminium with the steel wool and oh my, oh my. Do you think the aluminium powder would work with UV resin?
This is beautiful, thanks Steve. I'm really new to resin and what would really help me out is if you could say how much resin you mix up on each video you make. I realise it would vary but would give us a rough idea when trying to copy your beautiful work? Many thanks
Easy way to calculate it is to fill you mold with water and pour it out into a measuring cup. You'll need to wait for your mold to dry after but if you keep each mold in a bag with a label (put some clear tape over the labels to keep them safe) you only have to do it once. Always add a tiny bit of extra resin in case of spills and keep a spare simple mold off to the side to use up any extra resin. Simple.
The marble and slate ones are very underwhelming but the aluminum and the way it polished up is beautiful. Thank you for doing these so I can see what I want to buy and what I don’t without spending money experimenting.
All I could think of while watching you was "boy is he messy!" Then you mention to mix everything well. As powder is falling off the top of the mixing cup as you pour. 🤣😂🤣😂
Omg I just watched the jewellery video, clicked the link for the resin and then saw these and thought I'll wait for Steve to demonstrate these! The link only goes to the 200g tubs though, not the 100g packet powders.
Don't know if you're aware but when pouring your resin as well as doing it slowly if you pour a really thin stream from as high as you can comfortably manage that'll also help to pop bubbles during the pour.
So great Steve!😱❤️ I love how the moon's pop up and so those areas rly get shined when u buff it! Perfect mold for that technique!! U always surprise me with such wonderful tutorials!!🥰 I'll have a look at the powders for sale as well!! Ur such a darling to help us with all these tips, tricks and project materials!!😘
A helpful hint from someone who learned the hard way. Please stop using heat or flames to remove bubbles from your resin! You can damage your molds irreparably. Instead, make yourself a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol. Spritz the surface of your project and, instantly the bubbles disappear! Rubbing alcohol also makes the BEST cleaner for your workspace and any spillage.
I Love the Aluminum, I am a old school person, Bronze will be Amazing! I need to look at pe resin!! Do the silicone molds hold up as well using PE as Epoxy? Happy your videos came into my suggestions!! Thanks for all you do!
Can you try doing the aluminum as a 'straight pour' without a mold? I'm curious as to whether I could use it on a tabletop and how much sanding would be involved to get a finish as gorgeous as the molded pieces. Thanks!

Aluminum powder mixed with iron oxide powder makes thermite.
