I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment but this was a great video because I have a boat almost identical to yours with the same issues so I learned a lot thank you for doing this series of videos on your boat

I was waiting for "Luke, I am your father" Nice job young man. Rubber or Plastic squeegee's work great and are easily cleaned, Old surfboard builder.

+mrkrharris lol, I started feeling like I was Darth Vader. For whatever reason I didn't have my plastic squeegee at that time, but I bought a replacement and began using it after this video. That's pretty awesome that you are a surfboard builder! Where are you from?

Born in Ohio, Raised in Puerto Rico. Built a few boards, at a young age. Dad owned an air freight airline. When I heard you were also from an aviation background, I knew you were ok... Nice job, I always have such a project going. Keeps me young, and my mind sharp. Cant wait for your next installment.

Great series J. I had bought a 73 Duo boat in the middle of last summer. Has the same 73 85 Starflight motor, and power pilot. So cool to see another. Mine did not need anything, though this spring I plan to replace the transom. That is a great strong running motor. Just be careful when towing, if you use the tilt to tow, make sure you support it some how. I hit a bump, and that bracket cracked, and was lost on the drive. Good luck on finishing the project!

I have learned a lot by seeing your videos, and I like your style of presentation. I am considering a project, hopefully a "simple" partial floor repair/replacement. One of the basic decisions seems to be the type of resin to use - epoxy or polyester, so my question is why did you choose polyester?
    Thanks

***** I am happy you have gotten something out of these videos! Comments like yours are exactly why I decided to document this project. By the way I answered your epoxy vs polyester question on your previous comment.

I have some holes in my floor from an old set of double back seats I am replacing... Do you think this would be an applicable process to patch the holes in the floor? Epoxy didn't quite do the job for them as it sank into the hole. I would have no way to mask from underneath.

Awesome Vlogging Jmink! I watched all 9 Vlogs.
I bought a 76 Glastron Sportster XL with an 85 hp Evenrude a week ago on Craigslist. Our boats could be brothers! I am now digesting your Vlogs and letting it all sink in. I am at the "engine running" stage. The seller and I had to bypass the solenoid, and It fired up real nice. Next, I need to cover it and wait for my solenoid to arrive in the mail. In the mean time, I will be watching carefully and dedicating some yard space.
    Q's
    1. What made you finally decide on buying a vintage Glastron Tri-Hull? Mine was price and all around look to the boat. I am very happy with it.
    2. What was the degree of cut on the transom? 10, 11?
    Keep up the great work.

Thanks Jeff Pereyda, good luck with your build! To answer your first question, I bought my boat off of craigslist as well and for me it came down to price and looks as well. Also on the looks, I wanted something that would be a standout versus just another boat. Then to answer your second question I used an angle finder and it read 105 degrees. I took that and matched my saw to it. I hope that helps out!

I thought you were going to roll the resin over the whole transom. For just the patches why not use a brush? Just curious. Nice set of videos. Playing catchup on them right now.

    • @jmink
      @jmink  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I did roll resin over the whole transom, not sure I captured it on video. As for not using a brush, I just didn't think about it. Thanks for watching!

Hey josh how well did that masking tape come off when everything was cured? Was it stuck there pretty good or anything bleed through?

+Andrew Pierce I had zero trouble removing the tape and I didn't have any bleed through. Definitely happy with the results!

I have heard about people using flour. I don't know much about it because I didn't use that method. But, as I understand it, flour will act as cabosil and thicken the resin.

I'm just doing some minor work to install a plug in my boat. would this work without the silica. I'm thinking of just making some 1/4 inch and smaller chop strand to put in.

okay I'm not here to knock you or put you down by any means because anybody that to mess with fiberglass or learn how to work with it my hat's off to you do yourself a favor when you're patching a hole or laying glass down in a boat hole wet it out first your glass will absorb much more resin and it won't look so not not impregnated and get yourself a Bubble Buster and for god sakes rubber squeegees and a brush and when you're done with that whole make sure you gelcoat the shit out of that thing with lots of wax in it
