Every time this game is played on a TV at Walmart or Costco here in Boise, there are at least half a dozen guys standing around watching and they still can't help but get excited. Seven years later it's still as fun as ever.
Thanks very much, it's my absolute favourite sport. What you mentioned is the ignorance of some soccer fans coming out. Gridiron IMO is growing in popularity here, mainly due to the NFL International Series.
17fused Not anymore. Wembley is sold out three times a year now for regular season NFL games. Whilst I LOVE football, I also love American Football. Trust me, this sport is getting HUGE over here.
Since I’m writing this twelve years after the fact, I have no illusions that anyone will actually read it. Having said that, this was truly a game for the ages. The announcers, none of whom are household names, did a fantastic job throughout the game. I was particularly struck by the pregame interview with Boise State’s head coach, and his response to the question “can you hang with Oklahoma?” “We’ve been practicing hard, and we’re gonna leave it all on the field.” If that wasn’t prophetic, then I don’t know what prophetic is.
Went to this game in seventh grade with my dad. Best game I've ever seen played in my short 19 years. I will never forget this game and I am proud to be a student and I will support them for live. Bronco Nation!!!!
It doesn't take a Bronco or Sooner fan to appreciate this fantastic game. Amazing upset on a big stage using one of the coolest trick plays in football. One-point game, high scoring, went to overtime...what more could you ask for!?
As a Sooner fan, this game was amazing to witness, even though the loss was pretty painful. I'm proud to say I was there in person to watch one of the greatest college football games ever!
I've watched awesome international soccer games, thrilling NBA, college BB, but this game by far is the greatest and most exciting game/sporting event of all time!

I rarely watched College football back in 2007 but I was bored and lucky enough to turn on this game about half way through. Best College football game that I have ever watched, it had me yelling and jumping up and down. Great game!!!!
Every single day leading up to the Orange Bowl I've got the hook and ladder on my playlist to help get pumped up for NIU's Orange Bowl appearance. Thanks Boise for paving the way!
I can’t believe I’m watching this again 17 yrs later. I still remember that night I was in 4th grade watching this with my pops (he doesn’t watch football usually) but damn we were both into it all game it was a roller coaster ride!
to me the hook and ladder play was the best moment I ever experienced watching college ball. The statue of liberty was icing on the cake. Best game ever, by far
Greatest game i have ever seen in any sport, i will never forget anything about it and i am not a boise state nor oaklahoma fan. Thank you so much for this video, i still get goosebumps watching it now!
I missed this game entirely when it was 1st aired. I just didn't follow college football. I moved to Boise and I decided to watch this game not knowing the result. Best damn football game ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Boise!!!!
I remember watching this when I was 8, and everyone knew Oklahoma was going to win. To this day, I still laugh about Boise St. throwing the Statue of Liberty play to win, but it was still amazing to witness this live. I don't think this will ever be duplicated. Even if anyone tried.
I was here 50yard line Boise State fan! This was the best game i have ever seen in my life! was so glad that i lived in Arizona at the time! Will always be a proud ASU fan but ASU has never played a game like this before!
One of my favorite games in College Football. For me the reason NOT to have a playoff. We would lose these special moments. I love the traditions and I do not need to "know" who number 1 is. Favorite moment looking back at 2:33:02 AllState Good Hands Play of the Game ... a mere 4 touchdowns, 2 fourth and game, one wild extra point and half a dozen heartbreak and heart attack moments for both set of fans too early.
Amen I am kind of with you in that vein. It’s not popular in 2022, but it’s fair though. The epic traditions and awesome moments like this are something that is lost now. Nowadays, these Oklahoma kids would have sat out. Adrian Peterson (who played a great game, and truly provided the big dog for the story) would have never even played, and that’s not right. I think that’s sadly something that is lost in today’s game. The consolation is that in a season, in 2024, when we move to a 12 team playoff, perhaps we can have epic moments in the playoffs now, between Oklahoma #2 and Boise State #7, but it’s not going to be the same. Some traditions were lost which is sad. But I’m hopeful that with the 12 team playoff, we could get some of it back. I agree with you though, these special moments, and creating my bowl schedule during the holiday seasons as a kid was the most fun thing ever.
Absolutely and not even a close second...Boise's last four scoring plays were 1. hook and lateral; 2. extra point; 3. halfback option/toss; 4. statue of liberty. Classic!
I sat on the side of the endzone where Boise's last TD and Statue of Liberty occured right in front of me. We knew when we left that it was a game for the ages, and we would be talking about that game for many many years.
I can watch the last part of this game over and over all day long. I crack up at Brennaman's lack of enthusiasm when AP scores on the first play of OT. :-D
Whether or not it was trick plays that won this game, this was one hell of a game to watch. It was New Year's Eve and I stayed in to watch and oh boy did I make the right decision. I believe the better TEAM won. Now OK probably had better players, but they were not the better team that night.
This isn't the greatest game of all time, but it is without a doubt the greatest finish of all time. I'm an OU fan it's one of my all time favorite games. Absolutely incredible!
This game completely changed the landscape of the BCS. It just goes to show that an unknown school, at the time, like Boise State can outplay and beat a heavily favored and media covered team like Oklahoma. One of the greatest games I've ever watched, although the venue was the place of every patriots fans' nightmares including mine (SB 42).
Same with me. Seeing the little guys beat the giants is so awesome. It completely redefined our football program. Too bad you can only do something like this once:( Once you accomplish something like this, you are no longer the major underdogs.
Two years later, Utah Utes from the WAC will have another perfect season and allowed to play Alabama. Half time score was the same for the Utes as Boise State.. 21 - 10 over Alabama and Oklahoma.
I am not a big Boise State fan, and I don't care either way about Oklahoma. However, this is definitely a top 5 game for me. You only need one of the many elements this game had to make up a legendary game. It had 1. A huge upset victory 2. A clutch hook and lateral on 4th and long with seconds on the clock 3. A hopeless come-from behind 4. Two pick sixes 5. A controversial bounce on a punt 6. A do or die statue of liberty play for the win 7. a capacity crowd in Glendale, AZ
hey man thank you so much for uploading before i could buy the dvd i had to move from state side and been looking for this game forever... the best game ever
What I love about the hook and lateral is that after the first pitch they had another waiting for ANOTHER lateral just incase that first one wouldnt get them the first down, brilliant.
And for you it has to be a triple pleasure that Boise State used three trick plays to bring down the Sooners. Seeing that WTF look on Coach Stoops face after those plays was a definite VISA moment. It was PRICELESS!!!!
You're probably right. I'm a Sooners fan but I liked this video. Even though my team came up on the wrong side, there's no denying this is one of the greatest college games ever played. Sooners fans should know Stoops can't win a big bowl game anyway.
Great CFB game. From both sides. OU could have rolled over like Bama did against Utah in the Sugar Bowl, and chalked it up to one team wanting it more, but they come storming back in the 2nd half, all the way back to take the lead....The thrill of victory, to the agony of defeat in a matter of seconds when Boise hits the hook & latter.... Was jumping up and down celebrating, to laying on the floor smiling in pain....what CFB is all about-
as a Nebraska fan, i can say most people think the "Game of the Century" is the one between Oklahoma and Nebraska in 71. But i'll be honest, i think this tops it....
This was the game that was the catalyst for a college football playoff. Had Boise State lost we might not have the change in college football beginning January 2015.
I look at this game in a completely different fashion today. It's disgusting how much Adrian Peterson craves victory. I'm a Vikings fan, and the few games he played in that season told me he had to be a Viking. Never did I think it would actually happen.
That last play was Chris Peterson beating Bob Stoops (or the OU DC at least), at Chess. The screen to the right had been studied by OU on tape, and Peterson knew it. Except this time, they made it a Statue of Liberty and won the game. Brilliant!
Man, remember watching this with my dad and brother, we were obviously rooting for the Broncos in this one, we love underdogs winning. We were practically screaming at the lateral and statue of liberty play, was just so damn epic.
I LOVE how OU tried immediately to schedule a home & home w/ Boise the next season; Boise refused, twice. lol do not blame em. Hang on to this one game forever!!! LOL
This is one of my favorite games ever. I never noticed until today that ref in the back corner of the endzone threw a flag on the statue of liberty two point conversion. Wonder if that was because Ian threw the ball into the stands but it did not matter since it was after the play was over.
Just gunna go ahead and say this is the greatest college football game of all time, only other game i'd put in its category would be Michigan vs App State, but this one was legendary
"It appears that the tight-rope-walking of Marcus Walker is going to pay off for Oklahoma." If he had just gone down, Oklahoma probably would have won the game with a short field goal as time expired.
I remember this game, at the time, I was watching this off a little old Sony tv with an antenna, I was hoping to watch The Simpsons, and then this was on and I saw it from the 2 minute warning all the way to the wedding proposal, I rooted for BSU cause at the time, I didn't know who these times were and I thought there uniforms were better, damn, that was the very first College Football game I've anywhere. Damn, a great introduction for me.
Every time this game is played on a TV at Walmart or Costco here in Boise, there are at least half a dozen guys standing around watching and they still can't help but get excited. Seven years later it's still as fun as ever.

I respect that statement bro. Usually people in the UK just rip on American football.
