I love how wholesome these vids are, no swearing, complimenting players. This game looks hilarious, I love how the kids make random errors too, makes things a lot more chaotic
To explain Nan and why she's so good at pitching: Certain kids are clones of the MLB pros. There is one female clone for each pro player in the game. Nan Porter is the clone of the Phillies' pro, in 03, that means she's got the exact same attributes as Jimmy Rollins, but here, she has the same attributes as the Phillies' pro, Curt Schilling.

@@asdasf8817 indeed. In 03, she has two clones, Betty Houstan and Bobby Bulgrien. There are a handful of other backyard kids that have similar counterparts. Tony (Jim Kiley/Lena Ng) and Vicki Kawaguchi (Bret Olson/Cindy Chang) come to mind
The Pirates being beaten by a team of children is surprisingly realistic.
The pirates humiliated the “at the time” first place Mets earlier this year. I’m sure the kids would win by mercy rule against the Mets

Yeah he didn’t sound quite as enthusiastic in this vid as he usually does. I understand it though, playing games for a living and playing what people want you to play in order to keep your view count up would become tiring after awhile. Still love Drew though so I hope he doesn’t burn himself out
@@jacob4189 he had a decent revival when he ended the ncaa stuff and was posting whatever. Of course that’s not stable so you need an anchor series which is why he went back to ncaa. He found a decent medium with one off videos and short series.
Honestly his days as a youtuber are kind of numbered and he’s probably reached his peak or stagnating. Long term series get stale and he feels the burnout there, short term series don’t get people invested and he feels burnout from that. Idk what the answer is but if he scales back to this being a hobby and maybe go back to his early days for low pressure madden experiment stuff and tournaments. He has to know it won’t last forever so either embrace this being a hobby or leave and focus on your next chapter cause the burnout won’t go away if he’s feeling it this often.

Nan Porter is actually a direct cloning of Curt Schilling in this game, which is why she’s so tough on the mound. They also had Kenny’s clone, Judy Abwunza. Surprised she wasn’t the reliever honestly
In the 1997 version theres a ton of fields you can play on but only for 1 off exhibition games. The season games all take place on the standard field like you mentioned. In the exhibition games you also get to play against the other backyard kids instead of the 4 different bots that they use for the other team in the season mode.
I did not realize how many memories this would bring back. "Gotta watch your kneecaps on that one!" I must have spent 7-9 years old only playing the Backyard games. Football, baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, they were all incredible. It's funny watching this now and realizing I had more fun playing these games than I've ever gotten out of games like Madden or 2K.
This is the backyard baseball I had, brought back some serious nostalgia. Canseco was clearly juicing in this game even as a kid but he was my favorite player as a kid so I always picked him
I still play this pretty much every year, and your team is actually pretty close to what mine usually is. I always try to pick a fair but balanced team, but every time I don't pick Pablo, it feels wrong haha. Stephanie, Ernie, and Maria are the heart of my team, with Griffey and Pablo in there to spice it up. This game is so much fun man, there's just nothing like it!
The 2001 03 BYB was my favorite. The playing at other fields sold me. But Drew…you struck out 10 times to Nan….

I can’t handle it anymore. A series never lasts longer than 4-5 episodes before you move on and we never see it again. I just want to be able to submerge myself in the story that you create within your games, but that is long gone.

The 2001 version is my childhood Drewski love it that you rebooted the series to this game. also Dirt Yards is a goat field, easy HRs for Pablo and the righty bois with that one foot high wall
NTE, I believe the reason why some of your players have decreases in stats is due to where they are. In future games each player has a preferred area and a non-preferred area. I hope this helps.
You can change fields in the 1997 version. I honestly prefer that one

Ken Griffey Jr. is the best home run hitter in that game, if you use him with the closed stance and hit a ball that is somewhat in the middle, it's pretty much an automatic home run
Try the 2009 version it’s got that 3D depth and more power ups and interactivity. More content kinda. Love this game tho I probably won the Chip 6 seasons in a row 😂

I played the gamecube version with my best buddies tossing back some beers and Ricky was our meme god, he got buffed so hard in the GC version. And his trash talk is awesome. When he catches the ball at first base he says "gotcha" love it!
The fact that Jen Taylor (who voiced Cortana from Halo and Zoey from Left 4 Dead) voiced Sunny Day baffles me on how long she has been voicing characters.

Not gonna lie, I was pumped for the Giants matchup w/ the undefeated Fishes in ‘97. Kenny was unavailable after pitching the day before. Keisha and Jocinda were primed for breakouts. Would Ernie be more valuable staying at second instead of pitching? Jorge just got the first hit of his career and could have started a game-streak! Steph was about to earn the Roberto Clemente Award. And the backyard was better than the beach.
I grew up on this game and so seeing this makes me so happy!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Luan Luie IMO is one of the best players. She can pitch, and field, and is almost as good of a leadoff type hitter as Pete Wheeler. Especially when you consider how small her strike zone is a a hitter.
I played the 01 version all the way to 04 . Thought I lost game just with time nd moving a few times. During March 2020 did some cleaning and some how this was game just laying in a bag full of stuff . Played on medium. I do not remember how hard was to make contact . Had to take batting practice for 20 min lol

"This kid is so creepy" that's because that is one of the pros. Pirates didn't exactly have anyone at the time, so it makes sense why Jason Kendall wouldn't have the name recognition of a Ken Griffey Jr for example, but he's definitely a pro.
This was the version of this game I had. So reminiscent. Try moving the stance (starting from open) to follow what side of the strike zone the pitch will be. Your contact will be better. The pitches you missed on the outside but were timed right would make contact if you had a closed stance.
