The fact the ball can bounce off the mound is unexpectedly wild. The field is actually completely 3D even though you mostly see it from the top, that's so cool.
The 2001 version with real players was amazing. So many seasons played

I was a broke kid back then so I never played too many video games, but this baseball game has so much charm even though it's pretty old. Love the details they put in
This is comedic genius. The anticipation mixed with the randomness and suddenness of the game. Punctuated by the hilariously simple character animations. The AI targeting your pitcher in a wheelchair the first inning. Throwing their best pitches against Jorge. 23 minutes of laughter.

Please keep playing Backyard games! While NTE can make anything entertaining, everything about these games is already better than what EA has to offer.
The writing & voice acting are still better than any recent 2K Sports game
I always found that Ahmed was best using the power swing, Stephanie was best with the line drive swing, and Pete was always best with the line drive as well. I always picked Luanne Lui too because she could pitch and bunt her way on with speed

Why risk it with Pete though? Bunting with him was pretty much a guaranteed hit.
Just imagine if you could, upon fulfilling certain requirements, have Luanne Lui put her Teddy down before stepping up to the plate.
Her batting stat would SKYROCKET while Vinny would declare on commentary;
"She's put the bear down! I repeat: SHE'S PUT THE BEAR DOWN!"
Luanne could hit NUKES in the GBA version

I'm a 40 year old man, and this is still one of my favorite games! Not just back in the day... like now! It's awesome! As a teen, my little cousin had all these "Backyard" games. Played them for hours at his house. Years later, as an adult, I found the baseball and football games at a thrift store. Just as fun to play as ever! I loved that in the football game, you could create your own plays. Definitely better than modern Madden!

Now this is prime content here. Though I wish you would have picked Mikey Thomas and the Delvecchio siblings. Tony has a great arm for outfield and Angela is the best pitcher all around. But hey, I'm biased. Either way, I really hope you can actually do a full season of this game
Doable in the original, but by 2001 being on the same team will always give the Delvecchios bad days. They play better against each other. So I always picked Angela, and never used Tony.

That was '05. My PawPaw bought it for my brother and I when it came out because the kid next door had the '04 version and we always wanted to play it.
Man. Played 2001 so much the menu theme is stuck in my head. This is such a blast from the past, and it got me into baseball, so it was right of the MLB to license out the name and players
