In the game Grog was down to 1 hp and Vex saved him with the gem. Then he launched himself from like 30 feet in the air and got the killing blow with a perfectly timed natural 20. Grog then hit the ground and the fall damage knocked him out. It was nuts. People were on their feet and cheering and stuff.
One of the best combat moments in the campaign and they did it justice

Fun Fact: Travis used a Barbarian ability called Reckless Attack for this. It lets you roll at advantage (Roll a d20 twice and take the higher roll), but, every attack against you following this action is also at advantage. Travis rolled a d20 and got a 1, rolled again because reckless and got a natural 20 and when he landed he broke his legs cause as pocky said he was at 1 hp!

I _think_ that was the episode in the Campaign where they pulled in Wil Wheaton to touch all of Matt's things b/c they were so worried about this fight.

As a fan of the original content you can always wish for more when it comes to adaptation, but I think these guys almost did a perfect job. I'm genuinely impress with how well they were able to condense, combine and tweak the story to work in 20-minutes animated show.
I expected an incredible adaptation, and they exceeded my expectations
I feel like our hopes and expectations are in safe hands with Matt's storytelling. ❤️ It's been remarkable so far. In 24 episodes, I have like... maybe 1 complaint. And it's real small
I concur, my hopes were set high for this episode and somehow they exceeded them. It's a perfect episode as far as I'm concerned, honestly can't find a single fault in it
Almost?? Holy Buckets I am blown away with everything they did. This group of people is absolutely perfect to create their own cartoon. They dubbed Anime, they directed and voiced cartoons and they kived as these characters for 4 years. Know everything about them. This is the most epic thing ever.
i know after hearing their original podcast, i can really feel that animation adaption is really strong. Mostly because their voice cast is the original player and they know exactly what their character personality and action will be.
The scanlan has a daughter reveal and grogs kill on kevdak are 2 of the best moments in the whole campaign imo. This season has been filled with so many amazing moments i am just a bit stunned tbh
Scanlan's moment was the only one that made me go "WAIT WHAT?" during C1

One of my favorite episodes so far. So hyped when I heard Grog say "Vox Machina....fuck shit up!" I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going back and watching the actual campaign of this fight (last 30ish minutes of the episode Test of Pride and the full episode of The Killbox). It is such a great fight and was very nearly a TPK.
It wasn't shown in the animated series, but Scanlan was the absolute hero of the fight in the campaign, keeping Kevdak (and a shaman or something I don't recall) out of the fight for a good while with some clever uses of Cutting Words and the innate ability of Mythcarver (using an inspiration negatively on an enemy gives them disadvantage on saves).
Also, it was said by Matt in the aftershow, that if anyone but Grog had gotten the kill on Kevdak, they absolutely would've kept fighting and been a TPK.
Yeah this is my favorite episode too. Like I said on Twitter last night….the percy shot, *the percy shot*, THE PERCY SHOT.

Kevdak fight was fucking phenomenal, no question. Definitely my favorite episode of the season.

At the end of the campaign, Scanlan was 70 years old because of gnomes’ long lifespans and because when he first made the character he wanted him to be 69 years old, for obvious reasons.
To be fair, the one on one was broken by kevdac, Because he involved hurting pyke and brought her into their fight, regardless of everything happening on sides
Except Kevdak didn't break the rules. He didn't fight Pike. He hurt Pike, but she wasn't technically involved in the fight. He was just executing her. Kevdak is smart enough to stay just within the rules but still be an asshole.
The only rule was that the fight would be over when one of them was dead. And even that was more implied than explicit. You could argue that by Kevdak’s exact wording- “when someone dies”- that the fight was over when Pike killed the guy who tried to grab her.
Basically, no rule that it had to be a 1v1 at all.

I'd say the reflection of Grog as Kevdak's eyes widened was the moment Kevdak knew his fate was sealed, and he had lost. 12:28 ish.
Well the rule was “We fight until someone is dead.”
There was nothing about having to fight one on one.
Grog Said that he wanted to do a one-on-one battle, and he agreed to it
7:14 This is the moment when the empathic people just lost control and started crying. I knew going in I had tissues ready. Wasnt expecting my husband to also be crying. 😳 Travis hit us all in that moment. We felt the despair and the rage. Bam. 😭
This was such a great adaptation. This season, this show, just keeps impressing me.
They really upped their game this season. S1 was fantastic, but this? This!? Wow
AFAIK, the current understanding of brain function cessation from injury is that going from 100% fine (fully oxygenated blood, alert brain) to truly instant death requires catastrophic head damage (high-speed impact severing brainstem, crushing, major intercranial vascular event, etc.) Kevdak's injury was to his torso, so he'd have had a few moments to contemplate his defeat.
I just binged the last three so impressed. Now I'm here to start the review watch process. Thank u for dropping this at the perfect time

This is the best version of the Power of Friendship ever.
I'm a big fan of the friendship trope as well! It's just so wholesome. "My friends are my power!" This episode was badass from start to finish! Every second pumped me up! And then of course the fun ending. Oh Scanlan. 😅

This show is just so damn good. I almost DON'T want to watch the final 2 episodes of S2 yet (they dropped the final three yesterday) because I don't want this season to be over!
So... About Scanlan's reveal: Gnomes live 400+ Years, and age slower than humans.
Scanlan and Pike, for comparison, are around their 60s at this time. So Kaylie being his daughter actually matches up pretty well... She's probably late 20s/early 30s...
yeah, they haven't touched on how old Scanlan is. Sam, while playing him at the table, liked to keep it a secret as a joke, but always implying he could be centuries older than anyone else in the party. Gnomes can live up to 500 years, probably spend 250-300 looking as good as Scanlan does
Sam finally revealed at the very end of the campaign that Scanlan was only like 83yrs old. Very young for a gnome

Scanbo (Scanlan vs Vedmire in Whitestone) and the Killbox are the few episodes I rewatch all the time from the stream. This episode was amazing.
They really show how amazingly hype D&D can be.

The thing I most remember from C1 has something to do with a 9th level spell. I'll never forget the tears on Sam's face. Not acting tears but real life tears.

I was so hyped
I think this is my favorite episode too. The fight scenes look even better than last season. And Scanlan got to be a bard and inspire them with some badass music, just flying across the sky shredding.

Over the course of the series Scanlan somehow became my favorite character. He is just so well thought out. I love all of them, but probs to Sam for making such a good character.
As Sam himself said in Talks after c1, he wanted to make the worst character, but made the best instead.

Man, this was so good. Things i wanted to see and hear from the campaign weren't there, BUT they did such an amazing job, that I didn't care (sorry, had to rhyme due to the latest C3 EP). I LOVED this episode and I'm glad you did too.

Quick reminder: Scanlan is 70, gnomes live about 350 to 500 years. So that’s how he has a fully grown adult child.

What's funny is when I watched the episode, and Grog said where his strength comes from, the first thing I thought of was an earlier video of yours where you said 'My friends are my power!'

I think this is my fav episode of them all too! Now that you have all of the context, you could totally look up that episode in the campaign. (it's also called The Killbox if I'm not wrong) The thing took an entire episode and the odds flip-flopped so many times, you will be just as much on the edge of your seat as you were here.

Earthbreaker Groon showing up in Grog's time of need via Telepathy was Kord, The Stormlord's, doing. Remember, Groon is a Monk and Champion of The Stormlord. The arena where Grog fought Groon in Vasselheim was a Temple of The Stormlord. So Kord used Groon to test Grog to see if Grog was worthy to become another of his Champions. When Grog finally realized where his strength came from, he passed the test and proved himself worthy of being a Champion of The Stormlord. You might have missed it, but when Grog came to that realization and Raged, breaking the wooden spike he was impaled on, he became fully healed. I believe that was a boon from his new Patron. Kind of appropriate that the Champion of The Stormlord is the rightful leader of The Herd of Storms, no? 😁
As far as Keyleth and Vax are concerned, I have a theory about that. In Season One, she was really scared and worried about her Aramente. She was worried that she would fail it and not be worthy of being the leader of her people, or worse, disappear never to be seen again like her Mother before her. Add on top of that the responsibility of being "The Protectors of The Realm" and she was kinda spazzing out. But now, she's gone to Pyrah and completed the Fire Ashari leg of her Aramente. On top of that, she got to see her Father again. I think that whole experience calmed her down and assuaged a lot of her fears and trepidation regarding her Aramente. Sometimes all you need is to hear your Father say, "You can do this. I know you can." And she did, in fact, do what needed to be done, proving to herself that she can, in fact, do this. I believe this allowed her to remove a lot of the weight she had on her shoulders in Season One and, thus, make room for the affairs of her heart.
Keylith and Vax both have terrible timing.

This was my favorite episode of the first two seasons and I've seen the last two. This is the 2nd best animation I've ever seen. (Arcane is my favorite) This show is just so awesome. I can't wait for season 3!
