    I've been trying to learn more about doing some kinetic motion typography and came across someone who mentioned using Glyphs to help make your type. It was really refreshing to watch you break down the 'borrowing' that occurs when creating a typeface - brought me back to my typography classes in college. Thanks Tyler.

    This was a wonderful instructional video, Tyler. I’m on the 2nd day of the trial and, by the feel of things, I will be picking up the full version at the end.
    Thanks for clearing a few things up!

    I like Glyphs. I was a little skeptical when I saw the coach. I thought he was going to light a joint (cannabis). But no, he seems to know his stuff. Like what, appearances are often deceptive. In short, I subscribed because I was really blown away. 😜

      I'm looking for a typography software. If you are like me take a look at this url : alternativeto.net/software/fontforge/
      So far, it's Glyphs that appeals to me the most.

    • @tyfromtheinternet
      @tyfromtheinternet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey @@pmeur . I use Glyphs several days a week, and I love it. Fontforge is capable, and free, but a little frustrating once you're used to how easy things are in Glyphs.

      @@tyfromtheinternet Hi, I'm sure from what I've seen that Glyphs is the answer to my problem.

    • @tyfromtheinternet

      Right on. Yeah I was using Fontlab V before I knew Glyphs existed. Fontlab VI is pretty great though, so I might bounce back and forth between the two.

    I use Fontforge when I create custom fonts. I create the characters first on Adobe Illustrator as svg and import on Fontforge

    • @tyfromtheinternet
      @tyfromtheinternet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's awesome! I haven't had much luck with font forge, but I know people making fonts with that app exclusively and they love it.

    I want to emulate the typeset used in a specific 1930s typewriter. Can I import an image of each letter to develop a font set?

    • @tyfromtheinternet
      @tyfromtheinternet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure if you can import a raster image, but you can import vectors, for sure. Some people make their letters in Illustrator and simply copy/paste.

    Is there much difference between the regular glyphs and glyphs mini? Other than the obvious huge price difference..

    • @tyfromtheinternet
      @tyfromtheinternet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      From a general use standpoint (interface, tools available) they are almost identical. BUT, you're limited to ONE master in Glyphs Mini, so if you're looking to make a consistent family with several weights (or widths, italics, etc) with multiple masters, you'll need the full version. Glyphs mini is absolutely worth it though.

    hey Tyler great vid, could you make a tutorial on FONT HINTING?

    • @tyfromtheinternet
      @tyfromtheinternet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Autohinting should work fine with glyphs as long as your font is set up well (extreme points, stem values, alignment zones). I follow the Glyphs tutorials and have no complaints glyphsapp.com/tutorials/articles/tag:hinting
