    Roger offered himself to play some shows (according his own schedule) and his offer were refused. I was told by some huge Supertramp fans, how unpleasant was the deal with the group's manager.How different is everything when you met Roger Hodgson. He always has a moment, a smile to chat with his fans, he always invite many of them to see him after the shows, no matter how tired he could be. I've experienced it many times, and I've seen the happy faces of these fans after the meeting.

    I really hear what you’re saying & appreciated when you asked why Rick doesn’t come out to sign autographs with so few diehard fans. You know Roger doesn’t treat his fans that way. Supertramp isn’t touring anymore so I just want people to know Roger is and he’s always meeting fans. There are countless stories of him dedicating songs, people come to sound checks, back stage passes, special things for birthdays. I don’t want fans to think all of Supertramp treat fans like Rick, John & Bob.

    I flew from Australia to the UK in 2007 to see Roger perform. His manager made it very clear he couldn't see fans but they made an exception for me and I got to meet him for a photo/autograph etc. Surely that's what it's all about! Sad to hear fo fans getting neglected...

  • @bradrndavis
    @bradrndavis 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    PS Re: what Bob said re the reunion, I know someone who is good friends with the promoter. They said Roger really did try and the band members didn’t have anything to do with accepting or rejecting Roger’s offer to play shows with them whenever Roger had a break in his schedule, it was only Rick & Sue. So I don’t believe Bob when he was saying Roger was being difficult especially since he wasn’t involved in the negotiations. He did say he really didn’t know and that I do believe.

    Great interview with a great drummer. @markruku, unless you've met and know Rick Davies, I'd advise against rushing to judgement on someone you've never met or known, as you cannot hate on a guy for being shy. I've met him a few times and he's very kind and accommodating, just very shy. Go easy and don't take the bait of those who'd have you believe that anyone associated with Supertramp other than Roger Hodgson is somehow evil. That is just not right

    • @WilliamJones-sf5pt

      Rick's mother said that as a boy he went marching off a band of drummers and he never quite came back after that. Rick was 100% committed. Great player to have supporting you.

  • @supergormas
    @supergormas 13 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Very interesting Bobs comments on Roger Hodgson being very difficult on rejoining and he felt Rick Davies did his upmost to try and make it happen. That puts a new angle on the situation as Roger was always proclaiming he was the one trying to join the tour and Supertramps management refuses to allow.

    It's so easy!!, Simply note the difference between Roger and Bob, look into their eyes and see their smiles .... and there is one that is not so!, Roger always treats his fans so sublime , with the best smile and best words, my personal experience, and what I have seen over several concerts, is the truth !!!

  • @Candyflyfish

    What a difference between Roger Hodgson and Bob Siebenberg !!! . Roger treats his fans in a special way, I would say magic ... invites the soundcheck, backstage to photograph her , talk to them naturally and very close, there is a big difference, many great artists should learn from Roger .....

      I hope not too many artists learn from Roger's ways of getting every upload of his songs removed from the internet. I'm glad he stopped this nonsense now, but I know some people lost their entire YT channels only for uploading drum covers of his songs. That kind of behaviour is so at odds with what he presents himself as. I will never get it.

    Roger wanted to bill the group "Supertramp featuring Roger Hodgson". In a way I feel this is right but there are thousands of casual fans who don't know Rick from Roger.

    • @luisalonsoecheverria
      @luisalonsoecheverria 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I kind of understand that, simply because Supertramp has existed for so long without Roger. There could've been a better way to market a reunion. The best way I could think of is if they started the reunion tour in America, a place where Supertramp hasn't toured in decades because promoters weren't interested in booking the band without Roger.

    • @WilliamJones-sf5pt
      @WilliamJones-sf5pt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr. Synergy Rick was the necessary main ingredient in the group. Not Roger. As a young music customer, I felt undeserving of Supertramp. I knew I was special knowing and listening to them. It was Rick that wouldn't have it any other way!

    • @WilliamJones-sf5pt
      @WilliamJones-sf5pt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that failure to differentiate is what made Supertramp unique. Any member could have made up the songs and the group would have developed them to that of a high quality Supertramp production.

    Hog wash! I saw Rick and his crew twice during their 2010 tour. They were excellent shows that left me disappointed. I was struck by two things: 1) Rick was totally disengaged and wanted nothing to do with the fans; and 2) despite having hours worth of his own amazing songs, he opted to use several of Roger's "commercially successful" songs. Highly disappointing considering I live Rick's music and would have lived to have heard some of his other songs. Counter that with the experience of R

    You made some really good points sorry the truck came by. Listen to this video (th-cam.com/video/mQ3clAtLL_k/w-d-xo.html) Roger talks to his fans about overcoming shyness when he was in his 20s & he worked on himself so he could be more available for his fans. I think that is an excuse esp. for an entertainer, I think Rick is a snob & does it for the money & doesn’t really care about the fans. I’ve never seen any evidence of Rick caring for the fans or Bob or John either, not like you see Roger cares.

  • @markruku
    @markruku 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bob if you cannot be honest you shouldn't say things about Rick or Roger. I have a friend who was backstage at one of the concerts and while fans are still clapping Rick and his entourage go to a bar. What's that about? Is that being shy or not caring about your fans and just doing a job for money. Sad interview to say the least.

    Surely it must be the Crime of the Century not to re unite for one last tour , with that thought in mind I always believed it was Rick and not Roger that was not that keen, whilst obviously respecting his decision it does not seem that unsurmountable , old father time is waiting in the wings , and one last hurrah would leave this world with a great memory of a true awesome group of magicians .

    Song for song, and talent-wise the 1979 Supertramp line up for 'Live in Paris 79' were a new peak in music, however 'Loyalty-wise' the band was and still is a complete disaster. Such a shame, as all five musicians were brilliant guys - slowly they are being destroyed by deep-rooted bitterness and impending legal battles. So sad.

    Supertramp reunion is about money. Davies owns the catalog, and Hodgson wants his fair cut. Davies will not relinquish. To summarize: why have the other band members of Supertramp never join Hodgson on stage at one of his concerts? Because Davies denied their participation in their contracts. There it is. Now Davies has a grave illness, watch for what happens.

    Synergy. The creativity of the group takes precedence over the genius of the individual players. Biology. Symbiosis over all things parasitic. Better to be a faceless and nameless member of Supertramp than all things orbiting around 'Elton John.'
    Sorry Roger.
