The Mumbai used car dealers that Kartikeya was referring to are Caravan Cars (Sherry) in Malad and Dhruv (Dhruv) Automobiles, Mahim. If you visit them, do let us know your experience.
Loved the points about having a guy to check the used vehicle out. Things that I would like to add are: - Check the vehicle out both during the day and night. Testing it during the night time will reveal a whole lot of issues like the glass pane visibility, the headlight situation, etc - Check the insurance expiry date and if it is expiring anytime soon, then negotiate the differential amount out of the book value of the car/bike. - If the car is being sold anywhere near to the 100k ODO mark, then it's better to do a simply health check to see if there are any upcoming replacements for wear and tear which would add to the cost of the vehicle. - And most importantly, do a Parivaahan check to see if there are any Challans pending for the registered vehicle.
Today's my cousin's wedding. I'll watch this and attend haha. He bought a used Alto 800 recently. He got a good deal out of it. He consulted with someone who knew what he was doing so he got a sweet car. Motorinc makes videos which I personally can relate to. Cheers 🤘
In 2016, we (my parents) went second hand car shopping. We lucked upon a fantastic little POLO Comfortline 1.2 TSI. It was third hand. The first owner used it for 33000 kms. The second owner got the car for his son. So they had it completely serviced at the Authorised Service Centre for him. New tyres and all. They used it for another 11000 kms and were shifting abroad so they wanted to sell it off. This is where we came in. We got the car checked and got it for just ₹3,50,000. We just had to replace the fan belt. That's all. Since we have put about 20,000 kms, everyday city, long trips and everything in between. It is perfect. And the Music System is just soo good. Overall it's just a case of too good to be true but it was true.
Another tip: Never buy a car which is popular among taxi / rental owners. I know about one such taxi company owner, who used to buy new car, run it for 3-5lakh km , reset meter and then sell it. Another trick they played is that they would get annual service done at authorized dealership as per scheduled intervals. But before going there, they would reset meter to a much lower value, which is then recorded in service record. Once the engine wears out, they get it repaired under warranty. Rest all intermediate service is done on local workshop. So as per service record and odo, car will clock 50k km in 5 years while actual will be more like 5lakh km.
Amazing podcast guys, enjoyed it Used Car/Bike parameters: 1. Flooding-affected cars/bikes 2. Drain the oil and put magnet on it to check the block condition. (Free oil refill for the owner/ Deal will be a great deal ) 3. FMAI Index (Failure mode analysis Index) Usually you get information in the manual about which parts need replacement based on the millage/age of the part. You can understand the cost impact within 1 year of your purchase. 4. Discountinued vehicles (more than 5 years) and if the overall sales of a particular model are the lowest selling model in the category. Bodywork: 1. The gasket test ( Check for rusting) 2. Radiator (Check for bends/ damaged fins) 3. Chasis: Front bulkhead, front Wheel housing, front quarter panels 4. Engines bay: red flag if greasy near engine head & engine mount condition. Clutch & gearshift: 1. Spongy clutch 2. Ratlling from the gearshift
Great discussion. I stopped biking some time in 2014/15. I wanted to get back to it but i was not sure what type to buy. So for 2 months I rented a bike for a week from Royal Brothers and once I got used to biking again and went and bought a new bike. I spent around 20k in total on renting different bikes and scoters and I don't regret it. Because if i had spent over 1.5L or more on a new bike and then see that i don't like the bike then it becomes a costlier affair to sell it and buy another bike. Thank you for the tip on the used car and bike market
Happy to see 2 of my favourite Auto enthusiasts together across a table in a single frame.🥰😊 Bit late to know the channel existed, but happy that i came to know atleast now.
Shumi is responsible for most of my current perspective on bikes... Being a beginner and having mixed thoughts and emotions about getting one, given that i cant spend exorbitantly but want it to be perfect from all aspects, there's no one else I'd rather listen to... The storytelling is just brilliant! And yes, I'd call it storytelling...
Great podcast!!! My 2 cents on loans. While home loan top up seems interesting cos of it's interest rate, the buyer needs to be mindful and should not extend this loan to a longer period (not more than 3-4years). A thing that has worked for me is, some part of my investments are in FDs and I generally take a loan against it, which is generally 1% higher than the interest paid by the bank. And generally close the loan within 1 or 1.5 years.
I paused the video on the frame which is like the middle of the room showing everything and my OCD couldn't find any inconsistency everything is perfect the artistic quotient of this frame, room and the people within it is extremely high, the silent things like this making it pleasing to watch, soothing to hear abd relaxing and cherishing the knowledge is amazing. It is truly an experience for the soul. Thank you for this ❤️❤️
@@motorinc well to a certain extent yes. But comes down to value for money. Like new seven seater would cost me anything between 25-35 and premium seven seater pre-owned is like 35-45 so really not able to decide if I should invest so much in pre-owned.
Just a small correction guys, After bs6, the Prices of a car have increased so much that old Corollas and honda citys are no longer available for 2-3 lakh. It is upwards of 4-5 lakh nowadays. I bought a 2014 Toyota Etios Liva diesel in 2022 for 2 lakhs (My first car). It had 1.25 lakh on Odo but it was driven by a lady govt school teacher and she used to take care of her car like a baby. I got it checked with my local mechanic and a Toyota service station. Everything was perfect. Service history was clean and no accidents. I have visited almost all dealers in Ahmedabad during my search time. I learned so much from many mechanics and dealers that now my friends take me for used car inspections. My Respect for Toyota has increased so much. I Love this car. God-level reliability.
For loans, check if the interest rates offered is at daily reducing balance or flat interest rate. Almost all 2 wheeler loans are given at flat interest rate, while car and home loans are at reducing balance. This creates a big difference in actual interest amount paid, its better if you can get personal loan at daily reducing balance rather than taking 2 wheeler loan
If the odometer reading bothers you, there's another hack where you can reach out to the service centre and ask at what km was the bike/car last serviced. If it was serviced at the authorised service centre. My friend once tried that and got to know that the bike had ran a lot more kms than the odometer read.
Yeah that’s pretty standard procedure in my country - we ask the IMT in Portugal, pay 30€ and we get all the service information from the past, including mileage at eat point
The 'Transfer of Ownership' thing shumi mentioned hits me alot personally. Have had to visit police station & district court multiple times (spend my hard earned money because apparently cops won't do their job without being bribed for it) because of the mess I ended up with (can't share much details). Whenever you sell a vehicle - GET THE OWNERSHIP TRANSFERRED BEFORE HANDING OVER YOUR VEHICLE.
Lovely podcast. i have made a few mistakes in the past which I understood after having the experience. Im glad that toay folks have your podcast to understand the whole scenario before making a decision. And coming from the BFSI industry, Ican say that taking a PL on a second deal is far better then going for a vehicle finance. Interest on PL and VL is calculated difffewntly, if the VL is is at 9% if you calculate the amount you twice the rate, were as in a PL you have Interest is paid on a differing Principal balance, the fore closure rate is also less and you do not have the hassle of Hypothcation. again it depends on many factors like your Cibil score, debt to income ratio, and many more things. I also agree that anything over 4 yers (vehical age) can ruin your experience. But great show you guys put out there Kudos to the team.
I agree with you about personal loans being better than vehicle loans, you can also negotiate with banks for lower interest rates and zero foreclosure charges. Pitch 2 or 3 banks against each other especially towards the end of the month to get the best deal for your loans. I feel negotiating for better loan terms is more effective than negotiating with the seller for a slightly lower price. I have used this method to get personal loans with lesser interest rates than vehicle loans and with no foreclosure charges, then take the loan for the maximum tenure possible so the emi is the lowest amount and close the loan within 1 to 1.5 yrs as there is no foreclosure charges, this has worked out very well for my last used bike purchase.
Great, no-nonsense video! That's your USP, isn't it? 😉 This video provided good perspectives. It was nice to hear someone talking about it at this level. And the calmness in the room, it feels so different from the videos we've gotten used to.
I'm an engineer who love automobile but a core finance guy who always look out for value. Saving bit by bit for my future first class used vehicle (car & bike). I bought used Chevrolet optra 1.6L petrol and it never gave me a problem for my 8 year of ownership except some few niggles here and there and it was great comfortable car checked it inside out I knew the owner, I knew how he kept his vehicle and how much he loved and took care his all the cars which he had, and before buying it I knew the arrangement of parts could be an issue so beforehand I went to my local mechanic and contacted some big spare parts dealers if they have parts readily available. Can write a whole blog on this but yes what you said in this podcast completely make sense. Kudos to The Team 🙏
Have been following Shumi since your Business Standard Motoring days. Went through the comments section to find that you have been replying to each of them, felt really connected. Keep the great work coming up. Was looking for a 600 supersport but would wait for the right time. Thanks alot. This podcast really helped alot.
I brought Pre-owned Honda WRV 2017 Petrol with 25k km on odo, at 50% value of new car, got it serviced and checked from expert mechanics locally and the car is my best value for money purchase. Till now completed 52k km on odo with 3 services done from Honda within last 10 months still drives butter smooth like new 😊.
I remember selling my Hyundai Santro Xing XO which my dad bought in 2007. Sold it in 2014, it was super clean, brand new, clocked 30k kms legit with leather seat covers. The guy who came to purchase was super happy and wanted to purchase immediately then and there. I sold it for 1.6 lakhs. I was young myself, aged 19, thought 1.6 lakhs is a good deal for a 7 year old car. Only to realize later that it was the buyer who won 😅
A very important topic and one of my favorites! I just want to share a lesson that I got. So I was driving a Bolero and wanted to change as the Bolero was not quite family friendly, though the seats were not too uncomfortable. So I have a local used car dealer with whom I share good rapport and I regularly browse through the used cars that he picks up. Now when I approached him for changing the Bolero who provided me with a very sweet deal. He offered me a 2018 Black Scorpio S11 absolutely stock. Also he was giving me 6.5 lakhs for my Bolero which was also from 2018. I looked at the ODO and it was around 5500 KMs on the ODO and as Kartikeya mentioned about checking the Trip Meters I checked that it was normal. No Tampering. The previous owner had to sell the car as he was unable to pay the EMIs (or whatever the reason). So the car was good and nearly as new and the asking price was 14 lakhs. I also had the service records checked from the Authorized Service Center and found that the Mandatory First Service was not even done on the vehicle. So once the car was checked the vehicle condition was sorted. Also I checked for new Scorpio which was coming for 20+ lakhs and mahindra was giving me 6 lakhs for my Bolero. Even I checked with other brands as well, since I am ready to spend 14 lakhs, I was keeping my options open. Now came the financial part. Since I was getting 6.5 lakhs for my Bolero I had to loan the rest of the 7.5 lakhs. I had very less to no experience in buying used car using used vehicle loans. Now this dealer person kept on assuring me that the Interest Rates for used cars are nearly at par with New car loans. So I had to rely upon him. The guy who was doing the loan also started to play fishy and was not revealing the EMI amount to me before processing. But my heart was already set on the Black Scorpio (dreaming myself driving the black beast with swag and all that 😎). So I went ahead with the processing. Once the bank processed the loan it came out to 18k per month, which was pretty steep for me. so after paying a couple of EMIs I decided enough. I spoke to a friend of mine working in HDFC Bank about taking a personal loan. And funnily the Interest Rate for Personal Loan came out at 10.5% as opposed to the Used Car Loan which was at 14.5%. I foreclosed the Used car loan at ICICI by paying a good 42K for foreclosure charge(which I console myself as the charge for my lesson learnt). Had the vehicle hypothecation removed and after shelling out a few more bucks I was able to bring down the EMI amount to 11K which is still very much doable. And yes, I did share a piece of my mind with my dealer for the ignorant attitude. Lesson Learnt: 1. Never buy an Used car with Used Car Loan. Always try to pay the entire amount or the maximum that can be paid and take the rest as Personal Loan. Benefit: Lower Interest rates, No Hypothecation 2. If possible, go for the first hand vehicle, because the EMI that you would be paying is any day lesser than Personal Loan EMI or Used Car Loan EMI. Benefit: Even lower interest rates and being the first owner. Hope someone going to buy an used car doesn't suffer the burdens that I suffered.
Hi Both! The discussion was just wow. My thoughts and ideas stand vindicated today and how! I stay in mumbai.....Two years back I picked up a three year sparsely run Crysta diesel automatic. (With a home loan top up!!) 5 days back I picked up a street twin 2019 model. The bike goes for a service tomorrow. Fingers crossed. So yeah....Totally worth the effort of scouting around for value deals specially if you are in a place like Mumbai!!! God bless you both ...eternal Guru's.
I have always bought mildly used cars and been incredibly happy with it! (skoda fabia -> Honda city 3rd gen -> Octavia TDI 3nd gen). Few tips from my experience - 1. There are always some very good car models ignored by market for various reasons (like skoda fabia, honda jazz, Skoda Yeti, few fords etc). You might get them at a lot better price in second hard market. 2. There are some cars that are extremely reliable (like honda's and toyotas). You can consider well maintained older models as they hold up very well. Some cars though dont hold up well with time (would avoid very old german cars) 3. Few good proxies to milage on the car is service records, if tyres are original, current tyre wear, wear and tear of seats and steering wheel etc. Its rather easy to identify meter tampering if you look for the right things. 4. It important to check if car has structural damage, one can eyeball the chassis contour lines, its very hard to restore chassis damage completely. Superficial damage to doors, bumpers etc are fine, damaged chassis could compromise safety of the car.
Something about these conversations just makes me coming back to each episode again and again. I swear I have played #motorinc podcasts on speakers while getting ready in the morning 😄 keep 'em coming! ❤️ #thisconnect
Cars were always new and on loan, new bikes again on loan which were beyond 5 L , pre owned bikes were always cash purchased, I always went with my gut feeling with pre owned bikes where I can’t physically inspect them, happened to be buying three out of state bikes during lockdown when lot of hidden gems popped out for sale 😅, paid cash and waited for them to arrive with heart almost at my mouth but luckily all were the way owners described and they became friends for life.
Our garage is filled with used bikes/Scooters and cars. My father taught us about depreciation and how we need to search for vehicles that are 'Nearly new'. Vehicles ranging from 800/900kms to about 9000kms. Hence we've always bought vehicles that have left the showroom floors with very little mileage on their clocks! Happy to say that so far our vehicle purchases have never let us down.
We've had 25 cars & bikes combined come and go in our garage from 1998 - 2023. And only 3 of them were brand new. One was a TVS Scooty ES from 1998. And the second was a Honda Activa from 2001 which was 40K on road!! Man those prices👌🏻 Third was an Apache RTR 160 from 2012. And all of the used ones have been great purchases.
You guys talked about Ford Figo. Did you know when "G" in "Figo" is inverted, it reads "F150". The font style of "Figo" makes it even more clear the inspiration behind that name in India. You are well aware of Ford's legendary F150 brand. Silly observation but an observation nonetheless. Also, F1 2023 is round the corner and Moto GP is coming to BIC for the first time. Care to discuss on that? Thanks. Btw, @shumi just saved me from going ahead with 'not so useful' spend on a 'Zard Slip-on with Carbon Tip' for my Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC. Now I can be reckless with my budget for my planned Zanskar trip this summer. Cheers👍
As you mentioned 6L is a good range for used premium motorcycles .. if you could complete that by naming some of bikes that would be good buys for that money . Great job on keeping the conversation so interesting guys ! Cheers
That's not what we do Shawn. We don't believe be make lists for you -- it presumes either that we know more about you than you do, or that you're unable to make lists for yourself. We will always help. But we won't ever presume to make a list on your behalf.
Great discussion as usual :) I would suggest cross-checking authenticity of odo reading with not just the pedal, gear knob and steering wear, should check tread of all four wheels + stepney which could be another give away of any odo manipulation. One another point is not to depend wholely on service history. In case the vehicle underwent a minor accident and the owner decided to sell away the car, he could get it repaired/repainted at an FNG paying from own pocket, thus keeping service history clean.
Got a used Hexa recently. Just like you said, accumulated issues were there for 3 months and then it was good. Those 3 months i felt as if i had made a mistake but not any more
i am exactly in this same phase of evaluating older cars and this podcast comes up, you guys read my mind. I posted on the Thar rear wheel drive video before seeing this podcast and solution is here. AMAZING TIMING !!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be wonderful if you could invite people from driving community like maybe best Indian racing driver or a rally guy or bigwigs from automotive companies or car collectors etc . Those would make for fantastic conversations.
Absolutely. But not until we are ready to have guests produce conversations at our quality level -- which is about the logistics of the setup, the prep for those conversations and so on and so forth.
Greats words by Kartik and Shumi. I would like share my experience of my used Jan 2018 Bajaj Pulsar NS200 ABS BS4 I got it in September 2020 with 16800km on the ODO for approx 60% of the new bike price from an unknown OLX seller. I knew it on the first ride itself that it was the one to get, with the level of smoothness it had along with 0 rattles/ noise from the bike. Just got the basic service done which costed me 2.5-3k and felt like riding in a new one. I still have the NS with me and even after 28k kms it’s running stock chain sprocket and to this day apart from a modified visor which rattles on roughy roads there’s no noise/ issue in the bike. For me it was a great purchase and i wish everyone’s used bike/car buying experience to be the same
IN SUMMARY : 6 lakh good deals start - example 2014, 2015, 2016 street triple find a trusted mechanic and take him with you, even pay him used dealer > individual opt for lower mileage be analytical - how are tires worn if mileage is low opt for newer bikes - max 4-5 year old dont pay for accessories buy cash down mostly make sure to ride the bike make sure you can see the papers clear avoid if its too good to be true chose single owner service history needs to be clean know who the owner is, or close enough to vouch if they are lot of accessories, owner probably rides hard if the meter has been tampered, both trip meters might be synced to the odometer reading be willing to walk away if you spot a red flag transfer the rc change all fluids when you buy used ask the owner to get it serviced custom exhaust - stay away - dont know if ecu is tuned buy with your heart pay with your mind
In other podcasts, I had noticed that Kartikeya always asked questions & Shumi answered them. It was good to see Kartikeya open up & answer the questions. This is the best channel I've ever come across. Very helpful topics which help out people who are thinking about buying used vehicles.
A couple of points 1. I feel sometimes in discussions like these, because Kartikeya wants to talk about cars too, that Shumi defers to that and the conversation becomes a little skewed (probably unintentionally) and some pointers about Bikes get lost. For example, I would have liked to hear a red flags list for bikes too, and while some of it like paperwork is common to both, I'm sure that there would be some red flags specific to bikes Although it may be possible that few topics just require more conversation on cars than on bikes, and that is what is causing my feeling. (I felt this in the Safety video too, and I can see how that may be because cars just have more things to talk about in terms of safety) 2. Can we have a discussion on gear and accessories for both cars and bikes? Would love to hear the perspective of these two on both those topics, especially if it can get into the nitty gritty details a little, especially around maneuvering the legality of accessories and modifications like a different set of suspension units. 3. Are there any models/manufacturers in your experience which consistently show up as good deals on the used market? I remember Shumi mentioning something about Japanese bikes once on a different platform, in this regard Beautiful conversation as always! Worth the wait
Hey Rishal! 1. Yes. But in this case, Kinghee does have significant experience with used vehicles... far more than Shumi, so the discussion was expected to (and did) skew that way for sure. Bike red flags: Any fluid leaks at all (no matter how it's explained). Any sounds that shouldn't be there (unless you can see the loose bolt that's causing an insignificant thing to rattle). We don't mind minor scratches but the bike must ride true and straight (any deviation at all is a flag). 2. Can do! 3. On the big bikes, generally, Japanese machines are surer bets because they're either more reliable or because (Kawasaki aside) parts are usually quite a bit cheaper. Outside of this, the market leaders of the segments usually command the deals.
@@motorinc 1. Quite possible that his experience with used cars dealership caused the skew here. Just putting it out there, since I do love to hear about both cars and bikes :D 2. Will be waiting with baited breath, whenever you can do it, since this topic is one that I really look forward to hearing on from these two. Thanks!
In 2021 i bought Ciaz petrol 2015 model with 90K on Odo from true value for 4.45L. in two years i drove like 25K KM without having any problem except few problems that i caused myself like driver side mirror replacement etc. great car. Everyone liked it. Throughout two years i spent only on general service nothing else.
Can we have an episode on touring in India? For both bikes and cars. Like prep needed, how to manage a tour, setting targets and whatever other topics they feel are needed?
@@motorinc I think you have done one on powerdrift but there is more that can be talked about - how to manage fatigue, how to manage safety in solo rides, etc.
Great podcast this one.......Good and well needed financial and REALIST advice...since we enthusiasts tend to be emotional towards our machines...we do really need to keep in mind these points when we want to achieve our dream garage......Thank you #motorinc ......❤❤❤❤
i bought all my bikes used 1)2002Hero Honda ambition for 19k bought in 2014 with odo 18k km 2) 2015 suzuki Gixxer for 60k bought in 2016 with odo 3.5k km 3) 2020 bs6 RE Interceptor for 2.2 lac bought in 2023 with odo 5.5km all of them are amazing
I love all your podcasts... Would love to see a podcast or a series of episodes talking about everyday bikes like the 150 - 350 cc, 350 - 650 cc range bikes as that is what majority of the people watching the podcasts own (I assume) .
Bought a meteor used like new. Only 2500km. Saved 100000 Next in line Nissan Micra. Under 25k Save few more lakhs. Save money. Invest & Rest. Thanks for talking about used market.
I see a lot of disparity in Price of KTMs that are 3 years old and that of 6-7 years old in the 2nd hand market. I tried to search around and many told me it's because KTMs start giving issues after 5 years. Shumi since you have been a long term owner of a 390, can you let me know if you had faced any major repairs or parts failing?
Nope. Shumi's bike just runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs 😆 But there is a perception of KTM's being unreliable. And the units that prove to be unreliable are almost impossible to fix for once and for all
Not only for a great knowledge about automobile.. i love both of you for your English skills also. I love the way both you speak. Shumi is like Harsha Bhogle of Automobile industry.
True Blue fan of MotorInc 🙏🏼 The topics you chose to cover in this podcast almost covered all the bases. One dilemma that still runs in my mind (maybe on the boundaries of this podcast) is - I have been riding a Duke 250 for some time now and would like to upgrade to a used Street Twin. The problem is, I would not want to spend all that money without knowing if I will like riding the bike for long rides (2-3hrs min). Short TDs will not give a true picture. I didn't find any place in Mumbai or Bangalore from where I can rent the bike for a couple of days to come to a decision. Any thoughts on the best way to go about it?
Go to the dealer and convince them that you're legit and serious about this. Their big concern is always (and a valid one) the same -- that you shouldn't be there for frivolous reasons or for joyrides. All you have to do is get past that.
Great discussion and as you guys said the mechanic who checks the vehicle matters the most when coming to used vehicles be it bikes or cars. Got a used bike and there were so many issues with it and had to sell it within two years to a mechanic who was willing to get it fixed because the first one who checked it didn't check it properly had to change the carb, the front forks went kaput within 6 months since they were weak when i got it seems and when i was about to ditch it, it has some clutch issues as well. The mechanic said since the engine is good and he had the same vehicle which had a dead engine he wants to use the engine in my bike in his at that point i didn't care for that bike as much so yup sold it to him. And a disclaimer to all, in bikes with digital speedometer they can just replace a chip which is soldered to the speedo to change the odo readings i heard it from the guys i sold it to.
Trusted mechanic. Not just a random person off the streets. Kartikeya and Shumi both have a handful of people who they trust and return to for these things...
I am 21 years old and have been wanting to buy a used Z900 for quite sometime, but all 900s on sale are so heavily modified that buying one feels pretty scary, moreover due to the conditions of our roads I also feel like I should switch to buying something like a VStorm since I am open to both segments & want to tour a little, but yeah great content guys young riders need this kind of wisdom to ride better, safer & buy cheaper ❤
The crashes that I've experienced were exclusively at low speeds mostly while on road debris or unpaved road or while in a corner, i never try to push the limit of my skills to go fast around traffic or in corners, although i am not reluctant on reving up on open roads, so my strategies to become more crash resistance is to maintain good habits and pay more attention to the road and its obstacles and practice low speed maneuvers
I was very lucky to get a 7 month old apache rtr 1604v special Edition at 1.10 lakhs which has done only 2.4km with 2 free services remaining. Too good to be true deal.
Thanks a lot for clearing my dilemma about new vs used cars/motorcycles. However, I think one thing I feel should have been added like flooded cars/motorcycles. Unfortunately, I have lost mine new car into flood because of total loss. It should be completely avoided doesn’t matter how cheap you get, unless you want it be stripped down and want to do some experiments! Sometimes insurance history also helps to understand how the owner behaved with his/her cars/motorcycles! Keep it up guys 😊
Lovely lovely video. Made two purchases last year, an ‘03 R1 and an Octavia VRS Mk1. The bike’s with Anand in Bangalore (Indimotard) and the car’s with another good garage there. Totally agree to each point made. I just bought them both from the owner that I know personally. Somehow I just don’t trust dealers and I’d suggest everyone to look for cars and bikes in their own circle. Not just that, every thing, from adopting a dog to buying a house. You can never know if the owner was a violent guy to the dog or the house has leaks that’s painted over. Comb through your contacts and their contacts first. At least they won’t sell you a nightmare so that they can get their dreams.
We want to keep our quality levels where they are. That clarity and simplicity is the aim. If and when that means filming more outdoors… we will! Glad you’re enjoying the podcast!
Fantastic podcast! My family predominantly opts for used cars . With 4 out of 5 purchases. Here's a rundown: 1. Maruti 800 (Dad's purchase in '90s) - sold 2. Last-gen Maruti 800 (Dad's 2000s purchase) - sold 3. Chevrolet Ameo 2012 (Dad's 2014 buy, originally owned by his friend) - sold 4. My first car, a brand new VW Polo TDI 2019 - still with me 5. Honda City 4th gen 2017 Petrol (My 2021 purchase - still with us) Currently, we have our eyes on the post-2021 model of the Jeep Compass facelift, Would love your thoughts on this! Also, eagerly anticipating a detailed video review of the Jeep Compass in the coming days.
I had this thing in me like always buy new. Until recently I got my first bike, a used BS4 Super Splendor, for that haath saaf kar lete hai theory. My uncle helped me get this as it can get tricky for a new guy to choose the correct used bike. My uncle, just like Singhee ji, has all his bikes new and his cars used. Long story short, I now love used bikes just as same as a new one. If you manage to get a good bike and you fully service it as soon as you get it, voila, here's the bike as good as new. Loving the podcasts as always.
My father bought a 2007 zen estilo in 2018, only 4000 km on odo, very good condition, didn't even have to go to service for 1st two yrs, for only ₹1,30,000. That's what i call a good deal
@@motorinc yeah, still use it in cities sometimes, and i tell you, it is heck of a lot fun to drive than the Venue. Being 18 myself, most of my training is in that car. Only bummer is the lack of power steering. And it has less jerking than the Venue
I got a 2020 Figo Petrol last May. 9k Kms, 3 years Ford Warranty. One scratch on the door. Went to Ford to get it checked. Paid 2k to them and my mind was clear. 9k kms later, just did the 2nd service.
You both are great guys, I could not find Shumi in my YT feed in a long time suddenly Sunday morning you made my day. Why don't you start a membership , I want to join.
Glad to see that, with no more favours / attachments to manufacturers / publishing houses that are dependant on new car bike reviews - hard facts can now be spoken in open!!! I knew you both had it in you...now that you are free from restriction, pls do let out brutal facts!!!!
Thank you to the both of you for addressing these simple things in such a simple conversation. This has been so much informational for me that I have a lot of clarity on some of the thigns that I was already thinking about and some aspects that I should be thinking about. Please keep making such videos and podcasts. Thank you.
Another tip, if you're buying germans, have extra 70k to a lakh in your budget, and get the car thoroughly checked from your trusted garage/workshop or the showroom. More often than not, there will be some amount of gearbox/engine work and suspension work to be done. And after that the car will basically feel new to drive... Especially with the suspension work...
I was expecting there will be some conversations for owners who are try to sell their bike/car. But this was more of buying guidelines and expectations and not selling point of view. Hopefully that podcast happens one day 😊. I tried to sell my adv390 Standing one pandemic for almost 2 years with 600 kms and all free service done. Did not get good price. Now I am using it again try to make it something which I enjoy hopefully someday. Have finished 2000 kms on it. But still not fully happy about it.
For sellers, the advice is simple. Be honest and be clear about what's wrong with it. It's easy think you'll palm your vehicle off to a fool, but it's a poor strategy. In the case of your KTM, they have low residual values... so you will always get less for them in resale.
I was lucky enough to get a pre-owned R15 v2 odo 13k for around 65k, its a gem if a machine, single owner ofcourse there were wear and tear but i did save a lot of money and did not compromise on a lot, so mu advice is keep looking you'll find a diamond in the rough
Bought Jan'22 registered 390 adv (loaded with accessories, which I wanted) in Sept'22 with 3.6k kms on the odo, while saving 35% money if I had to buy new one and add the same accessories. Clean history, insurance and with all the bills/receipts from booking till installation of the last accessory. + 1 free service 😁. #happyme As Kathikeya said, walked off from 1 option due to missing documents and 2nd option due to misleading insurance history. Took time and landed on this particular bike in around ~4 months. As said by Shumi, initiated the transfer process (RC and insurance) on day 1. #relaxed
Guys, u have discussed things so nicely! I have gone through all these tips, some were hard to digest but had to face the consequences. Few of the practical points like number of owners, non transferred vehicles, dodgy framework on the car… i have been through it all and with your discussion everything came in front of me! This should be discussed more often. Thank you for discussing all the nuances. Hopefully this will help a new enthusiastic used vehicle buyer.
My believe premium bike owners usually takes care of their vehicle better. My 1st bike was a Gixxer 150, it was in excellent condition. I have taken care it pretty well too, I'd say I was lucky. Not everyone is. I'd buy 2nd hand premium motorcycles for sure. and I'd suggest not to buy 2nd hand regular bikes, unless it is an emergency.
This is only true because premium bike owners are less likely to to use them daily, that's all. Brilliantly kept machines exist at all price points... they are harder to find in the lower cc classes because there are so many of them on sale
Super stuff. Totally relatable. In my honest opinion. More often than less one can find better deals and cleaner vehicles when it comes to super bikes. for most super bike users, the car is still the principal vehicle of commute, but the super bike is an aspirational element, which fills a huge void in his life. it’s much much easier to find super clean hardly run super bike. since a lot of people having the money but no time will end up picking a super bike probably for aspirational value and will hardly have the time to clock any miles on it and at some point will be attracted to the newer machine on the market, these machines bought through the right channel and connections are fantastic deals.
@@motorinc true that. But like you guys correctly mentioned most of us old dawgs have our trusted guys in the dealer system and outside to check for such things beforehand.
Lovely podcast (but you know that already. 😊.) Accessories: Agree for most part with cars and most bikes - except on ADVs. As a buyer, I would walk away from heavy mods like exhaust, suspension etc). Forget paying for it in many cases I wouldn’t want it more likely than not. I’ve never put an aftermarket exhaust on any bike - certainly don’t want to inherit one. BUT - on ADVs, I think the various protective stuff / luggage system etc certainly hold value as long as the buyer doesn’t want very diff solutions. I’m talking stuff like main stand / radiator guard, luggage kit, engine guard, toolkit case, aux lights, etc etc. Kms limit: I also have a minor red flag for “too less” used. 5 years, genuine 3000 kms run superbike - I would be hesitant. Bikes (machines) need at least a basic level of running and it also is slightly more likely that a guy who puts many regular miles on a bike is likely to look after it well. I’d do a little additional diligence and inquiry in such cases and I’d certainly not be paying a premium for its super low running.
Great to hear your buying-used rules! ADVs - yes - useful - but the right quality? Meets your needs? Therein lies the challenge. Yes, too few kms always requires a close look. Very rarely does it turn out to be as promised. But if it is..
Motorinc fan went through the whole podcast without skipping even a second ❤ what you guys doing !! Do a video on Ducati Scrambler 800 will not buy one until I see a review from shumi may it be 10 years don’t mind will wait
To the point discussion with genuine suggestions.. I wish you had discussed a bit about the E20 fuel as there are lots of confusion on how it is going to affect the existing vehicles.. because I was thinking about replacing my 10 year old WagonR with a more comfortable used vehicle but the adverse effects of the fuel on a costlier vehicle will reduce its life faster..
As I have all my bike pre-owned what I have learnt is always keep 10% of price the bike you are getting aside so that as soon as you get the bike...spend it on that bike do the basic service..check if anything needs to be replaced. And all this costs should come under the 10% of the cash you kept aside if its crossing that then it might not be the best deal.
WITHOUT- ABS No ride ha ha I rode whole east Balkan Europe , 12k kms for 45 days ,18 countries in 2016 on a 145 bhp 2005 Fazer 1000 , No ABS , No traction control nothing in it still so much fun and almost safe on a Bridgestone and Michelin ,even handled great on hilly terrains santorini islands 🌧 rainy Albania, cold moist Slovenia, slippery Italian alps , broken roads of Romania - Scoda
There's no escaping risk. But there's taking a risk knowingly and with backup and just being silly (our perspective on riding without ABS). We all manage risk to our taste. Our taste doesn't extend to non-ABS bikes anymore. Yours shouldn't either (our opinion) but you're free to do whatever you want (you're an adult!)
I'd say buy the functional accessories like crash guards, pannier racks and even panniers themselves with the used bike if they are in good condition - lot of money to be saved there. Electronics, maybe not.
Also very important take someone along maybe a car guy or just a family member as they will have a completely different prospective, when it comes to looking at different prospective then you which will only look in a prospective to buy and may overlook some aspects of it when looking.
@@motorinc I myself is an Automobile engineer working in service and training for the last 12 years, we look at a car in a completely different perspective then a layman, we will look over something that a layman looks. 😃
The Mumbai used car dealers that Kartikeya was referring to are Caravan Cars (Sherry) in Malad and Dhruv (Dhruv) Automobiles, Mahim. If you visit them, do let us know your experience.
Thank you!!
Sure...
Any used car dealers you recommend in Pune ?
Hey, I have gotten my ford from Dhruv. I have an amazing experience. Lovely guy. Helped us with everything. He himself have sexy ducati. It was fun.
@@CaptainU764 Thanks Ulhas, Can you share contact number please ?
Loved the points about having a guy to check the used vehicle out. Things that I would like to add are:
- Check the vehicle out both during the day and night. Testing it during the night time will reveal a whole lot of issues like the glass pane visibility, the headlight situation, etc
- Check the insurance expiry date and if it is expiring anytime soon, then negotiate the differential amount out of the book value of the car/bike.
Good points Karthik! Thank you!
I’ve been following you guys for a long time now, you could put out a 2 hour podcast and I’d watch it without skipping a single frame .
Thanks so much Shashank!
Seconded

Absolutely 💯
Today's my cousin's wedding. I'll watch this and attend haha. He bought a used Alto 800 recently. He got a good deal out of it. He consulted with someone who knew what he was doing so he got a sweet car. Motorinc makes videos which I personally can relate to. Cheers 🤘
Congratulations to the fam! And what priorities man! 😆 And, ❤️!
Finished the podcast just now guys. Had to leave halfway... The exhaust part made me smirk 😏...
The exception that proves the rule! Thanks Bhargav!
So as per service record and odo, car will clock 50k km in 5 years while actual will be more like 5lakh km.
thanks for the tip
Amazing podcast guys, enjoyed it
Used Car/Bike parameters:
1. Flooding-affected cars/bikes
2. Drain the oil and put magnet on it to check the block condition. (Free oil refill for the owner/ Deal will be a great deal )
Bodywork:
1. The gasket test ( Check for rusting)
2. Radiator (Check for bends/ damaged fins)
3. Chasis: Front bulkhead, front Wheel housing, front quarter panels
4. Engines bay: red flag if greasy near engine head & engine mount condition.
Clutch & gearshift:
1. Spongy clutch
2. Ratlling from the gearshift
Thanks Prasanna! That's a great list of things to check!
Excellent plan! Welcome back to motorcycling CJ!

Happy to see 2 of my favourite Auto enthusiasts together across a table in a single frame.🥰😊
Bit late to know the channel existed, but happy that i came to know atleast now.

Ooh! That’s a nice strategy! We hadn’t thought of that! Thanks Mahesh!
For the younger folks, loans can be taken against mutual fund investments as well
@@sinuslebastian6366 Wow! was wondering about this.

One of the best, to the point, serious discussion about pre-owned vehicles. I love the way how detailed explanation was provided for each point.
Thanks Alok! Did that help you clear up your thoughts?
Thanks Ritesh! Great point!
If the odometer reading bothers you, there's another hack where you can reach out to the service centre and ask at what km was the bike/car last serviced. If it was serviced at the authorised service centre.
My friend once tried that and got to know that the bike had ran a lot more kms than the odometer read.
Great idea! Thanks MI!
Ouch. Sounds like a lot of needless hassle! We hope it's behind you now
Lovely podcast. i have made a few mistakes in the past which I understood after having the experience.
Thanks for the clarification Aniruddha! Always good to have people like you increase the knowledge base!
This video provided good perspectives. It was nice to hear someone talking about it at this level. And the calmness in the room, it feels so different from the videos we've gotten used to.
Hey Ishaan, thanks so much!

Wow!
Lesson Learnt:
1. Never buy an Used car with Used Car Loan. Always try to pay the entire amount or the maximum that can be paid and take the rest as Personal Loan.
Benefit: Lower Interest rates, No Hypothecation
Congratulations Amber! We hope your bike turns out to be mint! ♥️
What are some of the places to see the used vehicles listing apart from say olx or quickr ?
I have always bought mildly used cars and been incredibly happy with it! (skoda fabia -> Honda city 3rd gen -> Octavia TDI 3nd gen). Few tips from my experience -
Some cars though dont hold up well with time (would avoid very old german cars)

Ditto that. Also, playing it wirelessly while riding / driving. 😉👍🏼
Lucky! ♥️
The knowledge you are poring 👌 you guys are sages for our man kind 🙏
Thanks Dinesh!
Man those prices👌🏻
Third was an Apache RTR 160 from 2012.
And all of the used ones have been great purchases.
Almost sounds like a scam! But it's a good insight... Shumi's Multi V4S had 700 on the clock and his Tuono had 1900!

Cheers👍
F150 = Figo? Wow. That's a stretch and a half even for Ford. 🤣

I would suggest cross-checking authenticity of odo reading with not just the pedal, gear knob and steering wear, should check tread of all four wheels + stepney which could be another give away of any odo manipulation.
One another point is not to depend wholely on service history. In case the vehicle underwent a minor accident and the owner decided to sell away the car, he could get it repaired/repainted at an FNG paying from own pocket, thus keeping service history clean.
good point!

I would like share my experience of my used Jan 2018 Bajaj Pulsar NS200 ABS BS4
I got it in September 2020 with 16800km on the ODO for approx 60% of the new bike price from an unknown OLX seller.
For me it was a great purchase and i wish everyone’s used bike/car buying experience to be the same
Thanks for sharing Prashant! That last sentence? 🙌🏽

service history needs to be clean
know who the owner is, or close enough to vouch
if they are lot of accessories, owner probably rides hard
if the meter has been tampered, both trip meters might be synced to the odometer reading
be willing to walk away if you spot a red flag
transfer the rc
change all fluids when you buy used
ask the owner to get it serviced
custom exhaust - stay away - dont know if ecu is tuned
buy with your heart pay with your mind
Thanks for this KI!
In other podcasts, I had noticed that Kartikeya always asked questions & Shumi answered them. It was good to see Kartikeya open up & answer the questions. This is the best channel I've ever come across. Very helpful topics which help out people who are thinking about buying used vehicles.
Thanks so much Arun!
A couple of points
1. I feel sometimes in discussions like these, because Kartikeya wants to talk about cars too, that Shumi defers to that and the conversation becomes a little skewed (probably unintentionally) and some pointers about Bikes get lost. For example, I would have liked to hear a red flags list for bikes too, and while some of it like paperwork is common to both, I'm sure that there would be some red flags specific to bikes
Although it may be possible that few topics just require more conversation on cars than on bikes, and that is what is causing my feeling. (I felt this in the Safety video too, and I can see how that may be because cars just have more things to talk about in terms of safety)
I remember Shumi mentioning something about Japanese bikes once on a different platform, in this regard
Beautiful conversation as always!
Just putting it out there, since I do love to hear about both cars and bikes :D
Can do! Great suggestion Malhar!
@@motorinc I think you have done one on powerdrift but there is more that can be talked about - how to manage fatigue, how to manage safety in solo rides, etc.
This podcast and discussion was a total gem. Like a good discussion between men that you feel like being a part of.❤️❤️
Thanks for joining us @rakesh921ful
Great podcast this one.......Good and well needed financial and REALIST advice...since we enthusiasts tend to be emotional towards our machines...we do really need to keep in mind these points when we want to achieve our dream garage......Thank you #motorinc ......❤❤❤❤
Glad that hit the spot Naveen!
i bought all my bikes used
1)2002Hero Honda ambition for 19k bought in 2014 with odo 18k km
2) 2015 suzuki Gixxer for 60k bought in 2016 with odo 3.5k km
3) 2020 bs6 RE Interceptor for 2.2 lac bought in 2023 with odo 5.5km
all of them are amazing
Thanks for sharing, Amol!
I love all your podcasts... Would love to see a podcast or a series of episodes talking about everyday bikes like the 150 - 350 cc, 350 - 650 cc range bikes as that is what majority of the people watching the podcasts own (I assume) .
Can do Praneeth! Thanks!
Bought a meteor used like new. Only 2500km. Saved 100000
Next in line Nissan Micra. Under 25k Save few more lakhs.
Save money. Invest & Rest. Thanks for talking about used market.
Damn, I wanna be friends with you guys so bad!!
Great job guys!!. I have never experienced such quality from any Indian channel before.
Thanks Himanshu! Stay active right here! We're always here in the comments too!
Thankfully no loud laughter and no background cringe music. I could listen to you guys talk cars/bikes for hours together.
Nope. Shumi's bike just runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs runs and runs and runs and runs 😆
But there is a perception of KTM's being unreliable. And the units that prove to be unreliable are almost impossible to fix for once and for all
@@motorinc hahahah so it's like winning a lottery.
Not only for a great knowledge about automobile.. i love both of you for your English skills also. I love the way both you speak. Shumi is like Harsha Bhogle of Automobile industry.
True Blue fan of MotorInc 🙏🏼
The topics you chose to cover in this podcast almost covered all the bases.
You 2 are brilliant by all means but is there a possibility to accomodate Varun Painter as a guest in future. It would be awesome
We want to welcome all our friends over for a chat! Hang in there!
Yeah, Shumi and Varun had good camaraderie. Kinda miss that now.
See this podcast also then Utkarsh!

Basically i won a debate running for so many years amongst my group. Coming in from Motorinc. Just sealed it!! Danke
Nice! Congratulations Priyaranjan!
Thank you guys. Wanted to watch some long finally did and worth it 👍👍
Lovely lovely video.
Wow! That sounds like a wicked garage. Thanks for the 👍🏽!
Love these conversations. Seems thought-out and impromptu at the same time. However, miss seeing you guys in the outdoors reviewing and riding!
We want to keep our quality levels where they are. That clarity and simplicity is the aim. If and when that means filming more outdoors… we will! Glad you’re enjoying the podcast!
Fantastic podcast! My family predominantly opts for used cars . With 4 out of 5 purchases.
Here's a rundown:
1. Maruti 800 (Dad's purchase in '90s) - sold
2. Last-gen Maruti 800 (Dad's 2000s purchase) - sold
3. Chevrolet Ameo 2012 (Dad's 2014 buy, originally owned by his friend) - sold
4. My first car, a brand new VW Polo TDI 2019 - still with me
5. Honda City 4th gen 2017 Petrol (My 2021 purchase - still with us)
Currently, we have our eyes on the post-2021 model of the Jeep Compass facelift, Would love your thoughts on this!
Glad it worked out beautifully Pritom!
My father bought a 2007 zen estilo in 2018, only 4000 km on odo, very good condition, didn't even have to go to service for 1st two yrs, for only ₹1,30,000. That's what i call a good deal
Indeed sounds like it @PriyanshuShree10F31-ee7iv! Does he still have it?
@@motorinc yeah, still use it in cities sometimes, and i tell you, it is heck of a lot fun to drive than the Venue. Being 18 myself, most of my training is in that car. Only bummer is the lack of power steering. And it has less jerking than the Venue
I got a 2020 Figo Petrol last May.
9k Kms, 3 years Ford Warranty. One scratch on the door.
Went to Ford to get it checked. Paid 2k to them and my mind was clear.
9k kms later, just did the 2nd service.
Ohh sweet! Congratulations!
You both are great guys, I could not find Shumi in my YT feed in a long time suddenly Sunday morning you made my day. Why don't you start a membership , I want to join.
Thanks Manu! Membership is it? 😆
Glad to see that, with no more favours / attachments to manufacturers / publishing houses that are dependant on new car bike reviews - hard facts can now be spoken in open!!! I knew you both had it in you...now that you are free from restriction, pls do let out brutal facts!!!!
That's the plan! Thanks SJ!
Our town is full with 20 year 800s omnis ,altos wagon wagon r and santros. They seem to never die
They never do! India isn't a land that throws much away for sure
Nice information for upcoming cars/ bike owners.
Thank you to the both of you for addressing these simple things in such a simple conversation. This has been so much informational for me that I have a lot of clarity on some of the thigns that I was already thinking about and some aspects that I should be thinking about. Please keep making such videos and podcasts. Thank you.
Love you both. Great podcasts. Hooked on. Only thing missing is chilled beers.
Thank you Harshdeep!
Excellent! Absolutely makes sense.
Great podcast as always...I have old maruti esteem 2001 model🙂 I bought it around 6 years back still using the same one...and loving it..
Glad you enjoyed it Tushar! Just remember that the Esteem has _no_ safety features at all. You life might be worth than the thrills of a cheap car...
I was expecting there will be some conversations for owners who are try to sell their bike/car.
But this was more of buying guidelines and expectations and not selling point of view.
Hopefully that podcast happens one day 😊.
I tried to sell my adv390
Standing one pandemic for almost 2 years with 600 kms and all free service done.
The calmness in both their voices are music to the ears.
Thank you! ❤️
I was lucky enough to get a pre-owned R15 v2 odo 13k for around 65k, its a gem if a machine, single owner ofcourse there were wear and tear but i did save a lot of money and did not compromise on a lot, so mu advice is keep looking you'll find a diamond in the rough
I want to see both of them insighting about how to sell bike/cars for season02
. Much needed
Very well informed and soothing discussion to hot discussion 😊! Love the objectivity!
Great, Shumi
Really it was great
Even Im wishing to change my dominar 400 due to health concerns
And you're video helped me a lot
Thank you so much
No worries! Best of luck!
#happyme
As Kathikeya said, walked off from 1 option due to missing documents and 2nd option due to misleading insurance history.
Thanks Punit!
The content is so helpful and i can tell richness of the experience and wisdom that is shared. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Requested this video recently!!! Thank you for the video!!!

@@motorinc 🙇❤
In pure numbers terms, OH, you're spot on. But care and caution needed to identify the odd crashed/bent/dodgy one is just the same
@@motorinc true that. But like you guys correctly mentioned most of us old dawgs have our trusted guys in the dealer system and outside to check for such things beforehand.
Lovely podcast (but you know that already. 😊.)
Accessories: Agree for most part with cars and most bikes - except on ADVs.
Loving these set of conversations, it's different😊
♥️
Recently bought a used one year old Dominar 250. Seems like Dejavu!
Congratulations!
Coming soon!
Not sure about 10%.... but good plan!
Hey guys, make a video on how to store cars and motorcycles for a long time? (long-term storage tips and tricks ) especially for NRIs
Noted! That’s a good one! Thank you.
Just got a used interceptor as my first bike. Loving every bit of it.
Congratulations @preetmanda1936! We wish you lots of good times with it...
WITHOUT- ABS No ride ha ha
I rode whole east Balkan Europe , 12k kms for 45 days ,18 countries in 2016 on a 145 bhp 2005 Fazer 1000 , No ABS , No traction control nothing in it still so much fun and almost safe on a Bridgestone and Michelin ,even handled great on hilly terrains santorini islands 🌧 rainy Albania, cold moist Slovenia, slippery Italian alps , broken roads of Romania - Scoda
We didn't you couldn't. We said, we would not.
@MotorInc shumi sir I just saying no ABS also fun but risk will be there in slippery roads 😉
Makes sense. But we don't think we would make a blanket recommendation. We do believe accessorising bikes is a need- and result-based endeavour.
Also very important take someone along maybe a car guy or just a family member as they will have a completely different prospective, when it comes to looking at different prospective then you which will only look in a prospective to buy and may overlook some aspects of it when looking.
We would rather take a mechanic. But yes, an alternative perspective is always a good thing to have in this process.
@@motorinc I myself is an Automobile engineer working in service and training for the last 12 years, we look at a car in a completely different perspective then a layman, we will look over something that a layman looks. 😃
this was an awesome podcast, learnt a lot. one of those videos which oozzes value.:)
Thank you so much!
Can we expect a podcast on Importing motorcycles ? The challenges that are to be faced ?
Let us see if we can really add value... we increasingly thing this is not a great idea
