The song, "Lollipop" and this collaboration was actually originally created for a cell phone company commercial that featured BigBang and 2NE1.The song was so popular that they created this video and released it as an MV. The song even made it on major music charts in Korea.
This originally was a promotional song (CF) for the cell phone LG CYON Lollipop. The main selling point of the phones were that they came in a bunch of different colors, so that's why the song and MV was so colorful and poppy.
Fun fact: F(x) promoted this cell phone with a Chinese boy group and they have their own version of this song.
This also was the first appearance of 2NE1 as YG's new girl group and it is considered 2NE1's unofficial debut -- they didn't officially debut until about 2 months later with their song "Fire." They were so young at this time. LOL They all were pretty much teenagers. Sungri, the youngest member of BigBang was around 17 and Minzy the maknae of 2NE1 was around 15. This song came out in 2009 so BigBang had already debuted 3 years before this and they were becoming a big name group at this point.
Collaboration performances like this one between brother/sister groups within the same company and even groups from different companies are not that uncommon. Yes, you don't often see the collaboration performances become so big like "Lollipop" where the song originally used as a commercial hits the music charts, but that just goes to show you how big BigBang and 2NE1 were back in the day. Girls Generation (SM) and 2PM (JYP) -- two of the most attractive Kpop groups in the industry -- even did a commercial/MV together for a water park that was more like a mini TV drama. Once you start looking for them you will find a lot of collaboration projects and performances.
I used to have the LG Lollipop. The phone was amazing! I still have it and it still works, but it needs a new charge cord which is kind if difficult to come by today. I still love the phone and I love the song too.
Actually F(x) also did a Collab CF for this phone with a C-pop boy group also called lollipop.
Actually, i dont know that Lollipop was CF video.. I just know it today.. Even i've already become kpopper almost 10 years.. But i think the first collab song that is for CF and i really like it is B.A.P & Apink - Mini.. That the best for me..

2009 was the year KPop started to enter a bigger international market. It was called "Hallyu Wave" as the Kpop sensation and impact that time was so strong including in countries where internet connection was scarce. BIGBANG and 2NE1 were part of that huge wave alongside SNSD, Super Junior, Shinee, Wonder Girls, 4Minute and some others. It was a very legendary year. It'd be really worth it if you take a chance and see how Kpop was in year 2009 😉

Ahhh such a throwback! 2009 I got into kpop that year! I was a freshman/sophomore in high school (my birthday is at the end of the school year in May so it literally bleeds in the the school year)
I remember after a month of listening to TVXQ5 songs and watching the old MVs, then I got into other groups and this popped up in the recommended in the old format so I clicked it and I loved it! I also used this song to help others around me listen to kpop with me xD
