What one player can do to the ladies game 4 years later and pack every arena she plays is testimate to her work ethic and commitment.
When, like with Jordan, Bird, LeBron, & Curry, you pair exceptional physical & intellectual ability with the work ethic & commitment you describe, greatness invariably ensues.

@@scottjones1109 You can see why she is the player she has become. You put in the work and hope you get the results of all that hard work and she got the record the old fashioned way, she earned it.
Also, it she only played half the game and missed a few shots. Amazing progress

Loved seeing this 4 years later.
The newbie fans don't realize Caitlin had to struggle to get to where she is today. She earned everything, she was only 1-9 vs the Top 25 as a freshman.
And she didn't get any media attention when she led the country in scoring. Wasn't even a first-team All American. And everyone acts like she's just handed her attention and success

Caitlin's passes leading to a basket are as awesome as her shooting. Either way they score.
Watching a covid game with no spectators compared to sold out stadium definitely not imaginable...Passing reception needed work with all players it was good to see Gabby Marshall hitting 3 pt shots...Monica Czinano doing great down under in the paint ...Kate Martin showed her experience..

This was going to be just like any year at any school, score some points, close games, maybe make it to NCAA, but had no idea that this would be the start of the phenomenon known as Caitlin Clark

This is a completely different person. Amazing how much she's changed in just a short time. And to think she had no idea at the time that she was going to be a superstar.

In her first game for the team she leads in scoring with 27 points. A lot of incoming freshman with really impressive high school statistics, who win accolades as Miss Illinois or whatever state they came from, don't get to start in the very first game and then score 27 points. It's hard to make the transition to college, even for talented high school players. There are a only few freshman who can rise to the top immediately like this, start games and get all those minutes and perform brilliantly. Clearly Lisa Bluder saw that Caitlin Clark was one of those freshman before the season started and had faith that Caitlin would live up to the hype. And boy, did she ever.
I would argue that she is better than the hype given that she was the 4th rated player out of high school and in the last 2 years she is playing at a higher level than any woman in college basketball history.
Anyone who loves to see great college basketball should tune in to women's NCAA basketball! Best I've seen since 1973!

That’s because it was in Covid
A treat to see this. A confidant and not timid Marshall, a more healthy Goodman prior to her knee injury and seeing Lauren Jansen that would transfer to Creighton for their magical run and knock us out if the ncaa on our own home court in a couple years time. I forgot how bad Iowa's defense was. This game was prior to the sports psychologist where many on this team were brutally honest and Kate martin saying she has been on better teams with more team chemistry , Clark says g she can't do it and balling in the interview. Hard to watch but can be found online. The team didn't loose much after that meeting. Folks often forget how hard it was to build up and integrate a freshman talent like Clark into that line up. It doesn't happen overnight. This same starting 5 played well over 90 games together. Folks forget how hard this team building was when asking if Clark will come back next year. Not to rebuild with all her friends from this lineup gone next year.
Any source on the meeting with the sport psychologist or just hearsay?

@@brandonburr4900 thanks for this, I was able to find the video. I would just be mindful of the terminology we use as I dont believe the person running these sessions is technically a sport psychologist (which requires a specific level of training and competency). I dont mean to suggest he isnt good at what he does or that it isnt helpful to the team, but we want to be mindful of the titles we provide for people so as not to misrepresent who he is or what his background and training entails. I am also not sure how I feel about personal meetings like this being put on youtube, but I am going to assume with that all of the participants provided clear consent to share such intimate moments for the world to see.

Folks forget that covid cancelled like 20 games for Iowa, Clark and many other teams. Imagine if Clark had those back to add to the record. It would put it way out of reach .
I heard it ended up being 10 missed games (7 in 2020-21 and 3 in 2021-22) but your point certainly stands because for her, even in those earlier seasons, that still comes out to almost 300 points lost.
Folks also forget that Pete Maravich wasn't allowed to play in his Freshman year AND less games per season back then meant less games than what Clark was afforded AND No Three point buckets for Pete....just saying.
@@TheStuport I love the people jumping to Pistol's defense like it matters. Pete Maravich also played in a conference of schools still keeping out black players and took 42 shots per game.

Different eras and players and times etc. etc. etc....Apples and Oranges when comparing players and times and the whole mess. Also...what's having Blacks playing or not playing have to do with Pete's ability to shoot? Nothing.
@@TheStuport and he shot around forty some shots a game. Imagine if Clark was less of a team player and not as many assists? Not implying pete wasn't a team player. Reading about his shot attempts a game and the dig Kim at lsu took at Clark for shooting 40 shots a game had me thinking. It's a totally different time and era. I honestly wish they wouldn't keep bringing up new names and records to break. The should have ibeen it when she broke Lynnettes record

Same trumpet like announcer! Lol😂 They soon found out how amazing she is!🎉🎉🎉 Almost like this is HS basketball. But I honestly think it was good to get a year where they developed core skills and fundamentals and built such a strong teammate base with each other before a big crowd.
until CC started jackin 3's from half court . I would play this game every practice. they didnt even have a real bench. sitting in the bleachers r u kidding me!

It was Gabbie Marshall's first game as a freshman in 2019-20.
Tough for her as a freshman. Convincing good older girls to pass you the ball. Even though you can score every time you it.

I think he's used to talking over a little more crowd noise, but yeah he is obnoxiously loud.
I have season tickets for years and regardless of the number of people in the seats over the years this is how he calls games. Except when we host ncaa tournament. Than he can't be partial to Iowa and announce that way which is strange after hearing him yell so many years .

Can't believe how empty Carver Hawkeye arena is compared to today! I always enjoyed watching the girls play when I was in high school. Was always very proud of St. Alberts Girls high school basketball teams way back then.
This was during the pandemic. Only the teams and staff are present.

I watch this and it reminds me how absolutely awful the covid shutdowns were and how that stupid disease decimated the human population and the human psyche. Caitlin is an absolute beast with a basketball. Someone taught her the only real rule of basketball....make the ball go into the hole no matter what it takes or how it looks.

It's so funny how one person can change Iowa basketball. Just watching her first game at Iowa with no one in the stands to now selling out her home court and every other courts when Iowa is playing.
No one was in the stands because this game was during lockdown at the beginning of the pandemic.

Ok, the PA announcer needs to read the arena. There's no crowd noise. None. There isn't a pep band to shout over. So the over-the-top "BASKET BY CAITLIN CLAAAARRKK"!!! is wildly out of place and extremely awkward. I hope someone went over to him and said "Dude... c'mon."
