I hear you. Mine passed on 15 years ago - and still have his old, chewed-up leather harness and tags. Everyone would stop me on the street to pet him, and when he passed on, some would ask "where is he?"
I’ve been gone almost 3 years on active duty and I miss my basset hound everyday she is my short and slobbery baby and I hope to see her agin soon I hope she will recognize me when I finally get home! :)
Chase Sturdy: she will remember you and BIG thank you for all your hard work. I will say prayers for you and your girl to be together soon. God bless you
im young and im not sure about my future but i am positive when saying im putting aside a lot of money and saving up for three bassets. I have names picked out and everything. My parents encourage me to live with them when or after going to college and they currently own a basset named rocky.
My family and I grew up with Basset Hounds. By far the best family dog. Whoever said they’re not smart never spent a lot of time around them because they know what they want + hilariously mischievous too.
We have a 19-yr old Basset/beagle (well past his expiration date but no one told him...) and recently adopted a 1-yr old Basset from a rescue. We used to foster Bassets and have had the pleasure of housing a few. They are the most wonderful family dog!
Our trainer gave us our money back. We worked with on our own and she was eventually great on the leash and all the other stuff (when she wanted to). Sweet, gentle dogs.
Ha! They're such characters. On Facebook, a lady mentioned the same thing. She went by to retrieve her Basset and collect her refund - and as they walked out the door, the Basset turned around, looked at the trainer and simply said: "WOO!"
We adopted our Bassett when she was 7 years old and she has been the most wonderful dog. She loves her walks and has no problem being active, but she is more than happy the be in the house sleeping. She rarely barks or howls (not sure if this has something to do with her previous life). She is very well behaved, perfectly housebroken, and gets along with everyone and every animal. Especially babies! She is so calm and gentle with them. She is not so food driven and we don’t have many issues with overeating. She does sheds A LOT. But as the video said, combing them out helps some (but not all). She is kind and happy and has no separation anxiety (even being the only dog in the house). We completely lucked out and I am so happy we found her. Basset hounds rock!
One of the most sweetest, lovable, caring dogs around, annoying at times, but very loyal and great guard dogs their bark is so loud sounds spooky at night, theyre fearless too
My grandmother had a Basset named Cleo. She was such a sweet, gentle girl. She was so loving, so cute, and loved everyone, always in a good mood, and yes, VERY food motivated, lol. Some may call Bassets Hush Puppies, but I call them Cleos. Cleo died in 1987, and I still miss her, that's how wonderful she was.
Our lovable Fred came to us 2 years and 2 months ago, and I couldn’t imagine having a different or better dog!! He is happiest when he is laying on top of our feet and eating…. Eating anything and everything. We definitely have to watch his food intake or I believe he would never stop! LOL.
This is truly precious!! We have our first Basset Hound, Mando. He just turned a year old. He is a total Mama Boy. He's stubborn, thick headed, a brat, and just perfect! He hasn't yet howled. When I am gone, my husband says he cries the entire time. He can be a little territorial with our other dogs when I'm around. I continue to use positive reinforcement to train him to not snip at the other dogs. He does like to play with certain squeaky toys. He'll entertain himself. After five minutes of playing, he'll plop down. He'll learn what he will be suit him. We trained him how to use the doggy stairs to get into bed. Any other commands, he'll look at us like we're crazy. Mando is a brat and a perfect definition of a Basset Hound.
We had a Bassett once. Loved her a lot but she was sure bossy. Bassetts are gluttons….eat till they puke then eat more. Had to separate her from other dogs when it was feeding time. She was super smart. When it was dinner time she’d bring her bowl…stop by her bone…put bone in bowl and then come to supper area. She also could get the younger puppy out of her cage when we were gone. Couldn’t figure out how she was doing it so snuck back in to see her sliding the pin out of the latch to let puppy out! She had skin allergies and had to have a bath monthly and wear a tshirt to protect her chest. Had to clean her ears monthly. She had a heart murmur so really watched her weight to keep her at 50lbs. Had to chain her to garage on long chain as she’d always find away out of our fenced yard. Loveable but challenging.
I have a 5.5 month old basset... I had no idea what I was getting myself into lol. She is so sweet and loving but kind of insane. She has a lot of quirks. She will only eat out of the bowl to the left on our stand and she will only drink out of the glass bowl. She is a snake hound. She will corner one and do the baying bark. She hasn't learned how to howl yet though. But she is a talker. She is scared to go outside alone at night so she wakes me or my other dog up to go with her. She is amazing and I will have another after her lifetime because as much as I love her I couldn't imagine 2 of her at the same time.
You have no idea. Mine is 2.5 yes and she is our wild child.she steals, hides things as well as torments our old sheltie until he's ready to kill her then she gives him a sweet kiss on his face confusing the hell out of him.
I have a 7 month old and he still doesn't get howling! Videos, treats, other people howling, Dolly Parton, I get get home to howl! If you figure out what works please let me know lol.
Bassets are the best ‼️ Chicago Tribune used to run FRED THE BASSET COMIC STRIPS that will get you a few chuckles😃🇺🇲 Very nice video‼️ Columbo had a Basset Hound on his TV Show named: DOG.
I have had 4 year experience with these dogs, i have 2 of them and i kinda regret it because i forgot to get them to the dog school and now when they were 3 to 2 years old they used to fight alot with eachother but it has gotten better, so i recommend getting only 1 of them if you are not gonna get them to the dog school. They are really lovely and cuddly animals and like to sit with you in the sofa, some basset hounds also lose hair like my basset hound (because the 2 dogs are shared) had a problem with hair loss, altough now he has the correct treatment with it and he is starting to get better, they also walk really cute and can lure you into giving them food with their adorable eyes. They are sort- of patient and love going out for walks but they can also live with running in a backyard, especially a big one. Recommended!
So love my hound. He's only one & is very very smart. He catches on so quick! Everyone seems to love him & he gets constant compliments on how cute he is. As the saying goes; I wouldn't give him up for all the tea in China.
Basset Hound very loyal she loves going for her walks and she loves playing with her shepherd, lab mix puppy we got and yes her feelings can get hurt very easily
The turning point for our guy was getting a bell, which hangs from the front/back door handle. It took about an hour and a handful of liver treats to get him to realize that if he nudged the bell he would immediately be let outside. Once that clicked, problem solved.
How is the drool and smell they mention in the video?? My husband is trying to convince me to get a Bassett for the first time. I’m a little on the fence with the constant shedding, howling, drooling, smells. 😆
How laid back was the basset I had growing up? According to my mom, when I was a baby I teethed on the dog's ears and the dog didn't care one bit. Still have fond memories of that loyal old hound.
Basset's typically are a short haired breed, however I can happily confirm there are long haired bassets! They are adorable! Fuzz puppies! Also be wary my Basset obviously received training at a covert Basset Ninja academy, before she came to us! Being as she could happily steal, your food in blink of an eye. Without seeming to move, usually from the other side of the room! She was the ultimate cuddle pup and is sorely missed.
Another obscure fact about these hounds is they were used on chain gangs in the south during the early part of the last century to track runaway prisoners because of they're tracking ability they won't give up till they catch it or die trying. But when they did catch a prisoner he would most likely kill them himself, cause they are so darn friendly they would walk right up to them and well; that was that. So the dog owners would raise German shepherds and Doberman pinchers with them so that when they caught up to the prisoner, well that was that.
Live in Upstate NY. Have been looking for a new Basset puppy for awhile now. My sweet, best bud Jazz has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was the 2nd best dog to have grown up with my kids & been the best companion ever. In a year haven’t been able to find a reputable, upstanding Breeder. If anyone could put me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Female, tri-color would be first choice. In memory of Jazz. Willing to travel250 miles
agh I just love basset hounds they are so loving, mine (her name is Taloulah, Ta-lu-la) is 8 months old and she is definitely super crazy and still bites us but she I still love her and its just the cutest when she lays down and all her little chub and ahhh
My female Bassett Hound only loves her dad. No one else, there used to help her in her life to look out the window as she's to short and to rub her belly when she wants it done
You forgot to mention one of the most important things to consider before getting a basset, especially if you you are getting a little older like I am. They are big dogs on short legs. Everything you do to or for them involves getting down on the ground or bending over to the ground. Frankly, my back can't take it anymore.
Our Basset decided that a hamburger in a bun was not to be wasted but he had been fed. He disapeared outside very quickly and i followed him from a good distance only to get the laught of the day, you see Duke was a lazy dog accept when it suited him, he could dig a four foot by three foot hole big enough for him to lay in, only this time as i looked round the corner he had not dug a hole he dug round the bun and was pushing the dirt up on top of the bun and patting it down with his nose, when he had finished he left it by which time i had beat him getting back indoors, when i went back out all there was , was flat lawn with a small bump in it the bun was not completely covered in some places , the best part was i picked it up put it in the bin and flated the hole out, he knew it was me because he could smell tbe bum on my hands but he spent the next hour looking for it. He is always up to something like night hec went outside to toilet at about ten thirty we all of a sudden we got this real hound dog howl which continued, i rushed out side to find he had tried the walk
Across the swimming pool cover and was really pissed off becausevbe could not swim but could not walk either as it was too slippery for him The only thingbi could do was uncover the pool somhe could swim to the side and i could pull him out, i would not mind but hevdid this three times!!!
Is it ok to have a bassett without any other animals ( no other dogs or cats)..Im thinking of getting one..but I don't want it to be lonely if they are the type that needs a playmate ..we are retired...
do they realy pee at home? i had Doberman , Labrador rottweiler none of them never pee at home. Basset is my dream hard to find it in Georgia but as i was told its impossible to train him/her , and she/he will always pee at home
4. Mine was passed nearly 18 years ago.I still keeps the towel he used in the box put on my motorbike and in the summer time,it still smells.
Thank you for your service.
People who have never had a Basset hound have no idea how special they are. Thank you again for your hard service.
Chase Sturdy: she will remember you and BIG thank you for all your hard work. I will say prayers for you and your girl to be together soon. God bless you
Thank you for serving. Praying the protection of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is on you.
Thank you for your service! 💕
Dude. They cry. My dad went away for a while and when he came back my basset hound cried and howled
Had a beautiful Bassett Hound when I was growing up. She lived to be 16. Hands down one of the best pets in the world. Such a loving breed.
Wow what an impressive age, she lived a good life!
Got a beautiful eyed girl that I named Daisy after my beagle passed from cancer for Christmas and already she’s been amazing to have.
We got our first basset about three years ago. And oh my gosh, we didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into. Buford is awesome. We love him.
Cute name
The absolute best family pets ever. Ours get along with everyone and every animal. I can't imagine life without Bassets now.
Same here , ive got 2 and they are absolutely adorable!
I second that. I have two, and they each get 20 kisses and cuddles when i walk through the door, while my poor wife patiently waits her turn.
I have one to shes so loving and gentle its unreal
They howl non stop at the dog park irritating other dogs and spark fights among others

Will you sell one if they have puppies
Basset hounds are wonderful. I grew up with one, sweetest and most loyal loving pet I remember from my childhood.

I adored and do adore....my bassets. Rollo is my best pal. Life isn't good without one ❤ best dogs❤

My basset hound was the best friend I ever had.

Me watching this with my basset sleeping and snoring next to me 😂
Perfect!
i have a basset hound and i love him so much. My bassets name is

I love my basset he is so cute and gets along great with are German Shepard they are best friends
I love my Basset baby
i love mine
I have 3 bassets; Dopey, Frankie and Otis. Love them so much!! Will not have any other breed!!
I want to get a Bassett but have read they shed ALOT, drool and smell. Can you comment on this?
Basset Hound very loyal she loves going for her walks and she loves playing with her shepherd, lab mix puppy we got and yes her feelings can get hurt very easily
Something that goes unsaid about these dogs, is the fact that they’re really good at detecting sickness or injury
I had 4 rabbits. They would one in each corner and Droopy would never stop running. My bunnies exercised my dog
#1 fact about basset hounds: best dog breed ever!
I lovvve my Basset! The potty training is on another level, but they are so lovable!
I had a hard time house breaking mine but we finally succeded
The turning point for our guy was getting a bell, which hangs from the front/back door handle. It took about an hour and a handful of liver treats to get him to realize that if he nudged the bell he would immediately be let outside. Once that clicked, problem solved.
How is the drool and smell they mention in the video?? My husband is trying to convince me to get a Bassett for the first time. I’m a little on the fence with the constant shedding, howling, drooling, smells. 😆
I must of gotten lucky because I just got my first one 1 day ago (11 wks old) and I had no issues with potty training, he catched on immediately
basset hounds are the short kings of big dogs
Thank you for these interesting info. 8:40
How laid-back, friendly, and easy-going is your Basset?
Let us know in the comments!
Check out @monet_the_basset on instagram!
She's a cutie.
He likes two things above all, food and attention.
So we kind of sort of spoiled her and now every time you Pat her she's going to flop down for belly rubs
She's pretty laid back but likes to roughhouse with the other dogs and is spoiled rotten
How laid back was the basset I had growing up?
According to my mom, when I was a baby I teethed on the dog's ears and the dog didn't care one bit.
Still have fond memories of that loyal old hound.
I love my basshole 🤣🤣 she’s so awesome haha
“Do you know what? I’m happy. Hurray...”
-Droopy
😆😆 I want a make bassett just so I can name him “Droopy”
Awesome post I love this dog
Stubborn is an understatement
Basset Hounds make great family pets.
great video! anyone else chuckle when he says "... typical woof, woof..." @4:38 love accents !
I had a long-haired basset hound, which is very rare
I love my Bassett he's my best friend.
I love that dog
Had to put my basset hound down last winter his name was Hass. He was my best friend i miss him every day
Christmas tiiime is heeere. Basset puuupy eaaar.

Only thing I hate about basset hounds is how much they shed hair
It's a lot of constant clean up!
The way you say dogs is funny: “dacks” 🦆
I don’t know much about a basset hound, soon, my parents are going to get me one
@ceeacee8967 Windy Hill basset hounds
Boof is the sneakiest & naughtiest dog IN THE WORLD, but I'm wouldn't trade him for a million bucks.
Sweet basset
They're basically just squished beagles!
I showed someone a picture of my Basset and they called it a hush puppy
I call them baggy beagles ❤
agh I just love basset hounds they are so loving, mine (her name is Taloulah, Ta-lu-la) is 8 months old and she is definitely super crazy and still bites us but she I still love her and its just the cutest when she lays down and all her little chub and ahhh
He is great but he gets in to stuff a lot but he is great!
Just had to put my ladybird down last year. Still sad about it. Miss her everyday
I love you guys!
My favorite basset hound is fred from smokey and the bandit
Lindos podrían estar en el 1 o 2do lugar, son muy atentos, independientes y cariñosos
It would’ve been nice to actually hear what they sounded like when the video was talking about their howling and baying
TH-cam one that is howling
Rip Claude ❤
Columbo had a Basset hound
I LOVE COLUMBO!
I have a basset hound it is called Walney.
I was hoping you'd include "Columbo", with his aptly-named Dog.
I have a super beautiful Bassett hound. She is so attached to me I can't do anything without her by my side
Bassets are *ASSETS* Hands down the best friends ever
My female Bassett Hound only loves her dad. No one else, there used to help her in her life to look out the window as she's to short and to rub her belly when she wants it done
🐶❤️
Next time include a clip of them and their barks
Miss you stella
I'm pretty sure that Dog from Columbo was also a Basset, it's at least a hound dog, I know that much.
Does anyone know if they're good dogs for apartment living.
From a temperament and exercise requirement they fit the Bill, but if you were to acquire a howler, maybe not so much.....
excellent
You don't own a basset hound it owns YOU
I wouldn’t say they are hard to train
I have a mixed breed, Basset Hound/Bull Mastiff. Thats a Basset Hound times two!
Do Neapolitan Mastiff❣️
they did
ayo winston
Why are you talking for 2min straight how a basset is barking instead of just showing him bark. why? :D
You forgot to mention one of the most important things to consider before getting a basset, especially if you you are getting a little older like I am. They are big dogs on short legs. Our Basset decided that a hamburger in a bun was not to be wasted but he had been fed.
He disapeared outside very quickly and i followed him from a good
distance only to get the laught of the day, you see Duke was a lazy dog accept when it suited him, he could dig a four foot by three foot hole big enough for him to lay in, only this time as i looked round the corner he had not dug a hole he dug round the bun and was pushing the dirt up on top of the bun and patting it down with his nose, when he had finished he left it by which time i had beat him getting back indoors, when i went back out all there was
, was flat lawn with a small bump in it the bun was not completely covered in some places , the best part was i picked it up put it in the bin and flated the hole out, he knew it was me because he could smell tbe bum on my hands but he spent the next hour looking for it.
He is always up to something like night hec
went outside to toilet at about ten thirty we all of a sudden we got this real hound dog howl which continued, i rushed out side to find he had tried the walk
Across the swimming pool cover and was really pissed off becausevbe could not swim but could not walk either as it was too slippery for him
The only thingbi could do was uncover the pool somhe could swim to the side and i could pull him out, i would not mind but hevdid this three times!!!
The world lazy dog
from my experience raising basset's, they usually arent fully grown until 3 to 4 years.
Bist Du ein Knecht des Humbeners?
@@Autovaz2104 Lobsters? Humbeners?
"strength and stamina" I don't know about that!
I own a beautiful full blooded basset hound her name is ginger and she's my profile pic!
About their hair:Don't be fooled about their short hair. These dogs shed a great deal!
My basset hound used to attack and murder every Iguana that got into my yard. Iguanas almost the size of him. Never thought murder could look so cute.
