Hi Peter, Excuse me, btw will raynox be helpful if the lense is telephoto zoom tamron 18-300mm for sony apsc? the magnification ratio of the lense is 1:2 in 18mm and 1:4 in 300mm. I hope i can increase the magnification ratio at least 1:1 with raynox so I can do deeper macro.
Thanks a lot Gracie, very kind of you! I love dandelion clocks, especially the way those small seeds are connected to the core structure! Have a great week!🐻☺️😉
your dedication shows through and through. I gave up on serious macro a couple of years back (the 1:2 magnification of the 28-105 AF-D suits me just fine), but it's always nice to see someone going the extra mile!
Thanks a lot mate. It was just something that I had wanted to test for a while. Definitely not gonna be my go to lens for macros but good to know that if there is an armageddon and I can only keep one lens now I know which one it’s gonna be😆.
Awesome 😄 Even if I won't use this particular setup such an experiment is very informative and I might use it on something similar just to try out. I love doing photographic experiments myself. Many thanks for this video 👍🏻
Damn!! Great shots, man!! I really loved that dandelion one! Crazy setup, though!😆👍 At one point I was actually using a 1DX2 with both the Laowa60mm and 25mm macro lenses for field work, and it ended up hurting me. Eventually, I ended up switching to an Olympus setup afterwards. Best decision ever.
Hi Simon. Thanks a lot mate! I’d love to send you the link to the reflector/diffuser kit but unfortunately the small business that used to make these custom macro diffusers closed down earlier this year. I might review other diffusers down the track such as the cygnustech or AK. I recommend you have a look at those. Cheers
Interesting experiment! Basically to understand that if you are into macro, you will be better off with a dedicated macro lens. Big thanks, I've been looking at Raynox myself recently.
Hey Eli! The Raynox works flawlessly for example with the EF100mm f/2.8L IS, which is still one of my go to lenses and I also like to stack the DCR-250 with the NiSi 58mm. Thanks for watching! Have fun with macro & hope to see you around again! cheers
I am SO glad you did this because I WAS thinking of using my 100-400 with extension tubs on the 90D for just this purpose - now I dont have to!! Your images are simply amazing but that would get heavy. OK, so I am going to stick to my 100 F2.8 on the 90D for the extra reach with extension tubes after seeing this.... but man those images are awesome. 🤗
This was just a little experiment. Crazy bulky setup & super difficult to get sharp images but was fun nonetheless.I just finished a little macro session in the backyard, finally got some decent shots of a Long-legged fly. They had been very elusive & always seem to flee the scene whenever the flash goes off 😀 Thanks John for your kind feedback! Cheers
@@peterviragphoto The magnification calculators actually work for many lenses, especially for those with simple optical schemes, where there isn't any "optical trickery" applied. Just use it for infinity focus, for example I usually type in 0.01 for lens magnification (smallest possible value) which gives more realistic results. Many modern lenses have complex behavior behind the scenes, floating elements, variable focal length etc. especially towards close focus of a telephoto lens and super wide/tele zoom, so it's not predictable with simple calculator for sure. (your 400mm at close focus is not half meter long after all :D ) I suspect that most zooms should work best at manual infinity focus with raynox for similar reason. Anyways, for calculating magnification, good old ruler method is the best for sure :D
Hi again. The front filter thread of the DCR-250 is 49mm. So you’d need step up rings to reach the 95mm of the nikkor 200-500. You’ll need to search on e.g. Amazon. Cheers
i think that the mistake in numbers is due to the fact that the 100-400 is not a true 400 at minimun focus distance, is less, but i do not know how less is it
Hi there. That lens has a filter size of 95mm and the snap on solution only works between 52 and 67mm so you’ll need a step up ring or a combination of cheap step up rings. Cheers

Hey buddy, thanks a lot! Sometimes 1:2 will do just fine & you can still capture some great stuff!😉
That snail shot was so amazing Peter. Yes practice makes perfect as you say. Great video once again mate, top work 👍🙏

Thanks buddy! Give it a go:)
Nice easy instruction.Tons of knowledge there man!👌🙏
Hey mate, thanks a lot, much appreciated. Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
Peter you would deserve the AK diffiser. Works real wonders. God bless you!
Hey T. Yes the AK & CygnusTech are great too. Might test them down the track. Cheers

Great video Pete, keep up the good work 👍🇦🇺
Thanks a lot Alex, appreciate it mate!😀
Hi great video. Did you make or buy the flashgun hood/diffuser? If you bought it, what is it?

Great video :) and yes those automated calculators are messed up, I don't use them any more, I just test and measure myself.

Thanks for sharing my friend.
Thanks heaps and for subbing too. I just did as well, looking forward to checking out some of your nature content. Cheers
For nikkor 200-500 step down rings or step up ring which I used to connect with dcr macro 250

how did you achieve this look? 3:22 to 3:37. It looks so weird, almost like the background is made out of cgi.
Hi there. Thanks for dropping by:) I used the 35mm f/1.4 at the widest aperture hence the shallow DOF. Cheers

Which step up ring sir and how to connect please send me in details
Great 😊
Thanks mate, had some fun with it for sure!😀
The pictures are very beautiful. Your videos serve as inspiration for us to move forward.
@@billahsvideodiary thanks a lot mate, you’re too kind!🙏🏻

Your main issue was crappy lighting. Looked very overcast where you are.
Hi Brad. Yes, for sure, lighting was sub optimal. Cheers
