At 9:01 I saw southern PNG marked as formerly a British territory. Well, it wasn't really. Before 1901 it was a colony of Queensland, which had full "Responsible Government" (including its own military) before Australian federation in 1901. After that it was Australian until PNG got independence in 1975. While Queensland (and later Australia) were then part of the British Empire, the Brits had no control of places like Canada and Australia after the individual provinces or colonies were granted Responsible Government, which was in 1860 for Queensland.

The only upgrade I could see using is the terrain overlay. Mountains and valleys are very important, especially in military movements, so seeing troops move around a mountain makes more sense than "why did they go northeast then south instead of going straight toward the capital?"

I always wondered how you get the very accurate borders using paint, because paint doesn't use layers

    • @leninvasco
      @leninvasco ปีที่แล้ว +7

You can use the square tool, all white, and select the marker tipe. After 3 squares on top of one another, anything under them will no longer be seen. So put a map, 1 or 2 squares on top, make a black lineart, more 1 or 2 squares on top, and the lineart will be under 2 squares while the map will be under 3. The lineart will still be seen and the map not. Now you can just paint the now gray lineart with black and there you have it.

    • @TheLegend2T

I relate a lot to this - I've always prefered Paint to more advanced programs, and I'm 40 and never moved from paper to tablets - I draw by hand on paper with pencils or pens - and it's often difficult to even admit, because many people will literally take offense, like I'm bragging about art-conservatism or something - but I just could never really adapt to the more advanced programs or equipment I could never afford.
I like the processes I've gotten used to - and that's how I prefer to work.

8:34 In VEGAS Pro, I'm able to get around this issue (at least when adding media to the timeline) by temporarily setting "New still image length (seconds)" to the value I think would be most appropriate. Of course, that's really only convenient when you're dragging in your image files all at once, and I haven't yet found a convenient way to adjust the length of all of those events simultaneously after they've already been added.

Normally I don’t comment, but this process is sooo torturously inefficient it’s honestly depressing. Here’s what you can do to vastly increase productivity. Hear me out.
    1. Make one file with photoshop. This will have every frame needed for an entire video.
    2. Photoshop has layers, yes, but it also has folders. Put all the background information (water, macro borders, static text) in one folder.
    3. Make a folder for regional borders, and then create a new layer for every regional border you need.
    4. Fill all borders with a certain color, and make a duplicate layer for regions that need multiple colors (maybe even create another folder for that region if you’re feeling adventurous)
    5. Duplicate each layer and make them white. You can turn on/off the colored and white layers as needed.
    6. You can put different frames for the videos into different folders. For instance, name a folder “Frame 1” and have the proper coloring for frame one.
    7. Create folders for every frame of the video.
    8. All you need to do is turn on / off the folders that correspond to each video frame, and export those as PNGs. No need for multiple files.
    9. If you find a mistake, for instance in the static text or the borders, everything is in ONE FILE. If you need to change the year or name of something, you have a folder called “Background”. If you make this change, it will be applied to every layer underneath it. AKA, you only need to make the change once, not 100 times. Save speed is irrelevant.
I doubt you’ll actually do this, but I IMPLORE you to at least try the trial for Photoshop. There are some excellent tutorials for free all over TH-cam, if you spend even a day trying to learn, you’ll realize there are sooo much easier ways to do this. You’re smart, you’ll figure it out.
I’m also a fan of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but there really is a reason no one uses paint in the industry.
