i absolutely love the design ❤ i have a 97 007k1 and 94 7002-7000 both NOS condition and my skx009j brand new with tags forever gonna stay in my collection ICONIC.
I own a 007 and 009 both on the stock jubilee. Purchase new $180/$190 and will never leave my watch box. Was tempted to modify but glad I left them in original condition. Now they coexist with my Tudor BB58, Breitling Colt 41, Rolex Explorer 1, Hamilton KKing, Tissot Visodate, and Seiko Quartz Chronograph. Love my SKX.
I own this SKX009 as well. It was gifted to me by my twin brother as a Christmas present 🎁 3 years ago. It’s one of my favorite all time watches . You’re correct about the cool factor. The SKX009 is a legendary watch 👍🏻
I was just getting into watches when these were just getting discontinued. I was all about quartz then so I avoided these. Now I love the SKX but I just can't stomach paying a premium for a mass-produced tool. I better start checking the thrift stores 😄
Agreed, the SKX, despite not being hacking, is way cooler than any Seiko 5. It's ISO dive certified, so it's a real dive watch, not that many will even dive, but still... I overpaid for my (009j) brand new one a few years ago while they were still available...just. But it still wasn't too bad cost-wise. I also picked up the skx013 for my wife, and she doesn't even wear it... Oh well. In a perfect world (for my wrist) the SKX would be 40mm and 2 mm thinner, COSC would be nice. That would be perfect and end my desire for any other dive watch... Maybe.
Iso ratings are temporary once aging gaskets are replaced the watch is never iso again. It can be just as water tight prob even more so , but the iso rating is hype after a few years.
Seiko releases the best models for the Japan market from what I see. I would be on the hunt for the new releases but having owned that watch it's not that great but as long as you are enjoying it that is all that matters.
Nope they are all made in Malaysia sent to japan for the “J” market. 100% zero difference. Different branding and a kanji date wheel is the only difference. Seiko is super cagey about this, but its fact. Only the high end seikos are made in japan
Its kinda hype! SKX are in No way rare or hand made. The are also not made in Japan! All of the skx are made in Malaysia for a Japan market. The made in Japan title is a lil deceiving. The “k” watches are made by the same machines as the “J” models. There is zero difference. Seiko does not make a single one of the lower to mid priced watches. Hand made in japan is reserved for King Seiko and the higher priced models. SKX movements are good work horses, not particularly accurate, no hack no hand wind. Now they have been discontinued there is 100% zero reason to be paying 1000$ plus for watch that was intended to be a low cost beater. Especially since millions and millions of them were sold. There were so many of them made they wont be rare in 30 years! So yeah very good classic watch. Way way way over hyped! The turtles look way better and refined in my opinion, and the modern ones have a better movement. Those are not even worth $1000 . And the ISO rating is of no value unless the watch is less than five years old. Once the back is taken off to change the aging gaskets the watch is no longer certified iso! The watch will be just as water proof as before but no longer iso. Iso rated watches have an expire date. Gaskets only last a few years before they age and turn to crap. Seiko should have left the screw down crown on the new faux diver skxs and dropped the iso certification to save money. Now every one os clamouring over old low priced skx watches because of the screw down crown. Meh! Its hype.
Not a watch I rate at all. I owned the 007 the 009 and the 013 at the same time as the Citizen Promaster NY0040. The Seiko's are long gone but still have the Promaster. It fits better, is not top heavy, is more accurate and is just a better watch. I don't get it. The SKX may be cool but it's not very good. Just my honest opinion. Of course I wish you all the best wearing it. If you enjoy it that is all that counts.
I think the Skx lacks some appeal because of fan boys and it’s not very accurate without being regulated and it’s not light. But it is still cool and getting cooler the older it gets. Thanks for the comment. I do want a pro master very much.
Story of the SKX not a review. Yet!😅
Very nice watch. I bought a SKX 7002-7009 in 1991. It still works and I still wear it.
Did you ever service it?
Once. I had the glass and bezel replaced back in 97.

Mine keeps awful time but I still love it. It gains almost a minute a day 😂
The Seiko SKX007 is the best watch ever made.
SKX is very cool. I also own the SKX007j and the SKX009j. Luckily I purchased them when they were around $200 USD.
You are super lucky.
What a lovely surprising find 😃 Looks a lovely watch and looking forward to the review
Thanks!

Thrift for the win!
I have this watch and I love it ! Not sure exactly why but it's my favorite watch. I dive with it in Belize in shark infested waters !
It’s a real divers watch for you!
Don’t know why people just don’t buy a paddie ?
It’s a better watch but I want it less 😅

Sounds like you didn’t over pay at all :) I own on paper better watches but this is the one I usually wear.
