- Papa Momotaro was chasing Gentaro quite persistently.
I think he was disciplining Gentaro, not fighting between father and son.
The trigger for the chase was seen but not captured on film.
Dad Momotaro was in his study room getting lunch because of the rain.
And in the next room, when Kintaro was getting his lunch, Gentaro pulled Kintaro a little roughly, which caused Kintaro to scream and his father Momotaro reacted.
I don't think I have ever chased Gentaro from indoor to ground, then to indoor, and then to ground in the rain.
I don't think he was seriously injured. Please rest assured.
I was so worried that I stayed until dinner time (laughs).
The last extra video is an iguana I happened to see this afternoon. I didn't think I had seen it before, so I asked the park staff and they told me that they had started displaying it in the afternoon.

The Momotaro family were all born and raised in Japan!
Momotaro (father) was born on Jul 3, 2000
He came to the Kyoto City Zoo in 2010.
Genki (mother) was born on June 24, 1986.
I was born in Kyoto and came back to Kyoto.

Kintaro is the cause of most of the disagreements with Momotaro and Gentaro. He teases Gentaro and then can't take the rough play, screams and when Momo responds, chases after them, trying to stop Momo. Kintaro is a brat!
@@bridgetrennie8267 Kintaro and Gentaro play because they want to. They are adolescents. Momotaro is extremely protective of Kintaro because he knows that Gentaro is close to 300 pounds and can easily accidentally hurt Kintaro who loves to play with all his 90 pounds worth. So he is naturally going to be a little stricter with Gentaro.
That's very common behavior in gorillas -- very frequently when a silverback disciplines or attacks another gorilla in the troupe, the rest of the family immediately turns on the silverback and chases him off. It's really interesting behavior and I don't recall seeing any other animal species where lower echelon members of a group can chase off an alpha male, and I've never seen another species where the alpha male would allow much smaller members to chase him off.

If it wasn't clear enough in the description, Gentaro was too rough on Kintaro and made him scream so Momotaro gave Gentaro chase in defense of Kintaro. Momotaro was trying to discipline as the silverback should, not a fight for dominance or food related, but Gentaro is not backing down when he misbehaves as quickly as he did in the past. Afterwards everything goes back to normal. They seriously don't hold grudges. But yeah I think it's time for Gentaro to go already, a 12 year old male gorilla needs his own space away from the rule of his father.
Poor Kinny! He doesn’t want them to fight. Momo might be dad but he’s still young and ready to rumble.

It’s time for Gentaro to go, I’m sad for Kintaro especially. Don’t want to see serious injuries on anyone. Gentaro is starting to stop backing down from Momo, Kintaro trying to help and maybe even Genki. Anyone can get hurt and it’s just time. Tears are flowing as I type but it’s definitely time

I feel so sorry for Gentaro,he needs to be moved soon and have a good life with his own family ❤️,I love him and don't want this to happen again,he might get hurt 😭 worse.and he needs to not get to frustrated when he doesn't want to playThe whole family was worried the rest of the video, but for dad 1st,I wasn't worried for him because,he went overboard on Gentaro, Gentaro is a sweet boy,then mom was going to see if Gentaro was ok, Gentaro wasn't in the mood, and pushed her away, probably, thought, you worry about me now,I'm second best, you can tell Gentaro was mad at Kintaro too, Momentaro makes being happy in this family, hard.

Why can't they build a ground just for Gentaro, right next to family and sometimes let mom and brother come visit and bring Annie to live with him?
I agree with everything you wrote, it is heartbreaking to watch, everyday I worry for Gentaro, he is far too old to be around Momotaro, and they are taking chances.
Because Japan's zoos are not doing right by their gorilla populations. We're lucky that Gentaro is not a fighter, and so far hasn't really challenged Momotaro. But it's not just Kyoto, it's also the Shabani and Haoko troops. These zoos allow the gorillas to breed, then act like they're not going to grow up, and have no plans for when that happens. Kyoto and Chiba Zoos have had 12 years to plan for Gentaro's future, and they've done nothing. Komomo and Momoka should not have to be on birth control to prevent pregnancy. I hope Shabani isn't mating with Annie, but it will happen the longer she stays.
Stop thinking you know what's going on in their heads, they are animals and there is a hierarchy, out in the jungle Momo would have run Gentaro away by now, he is too old to still be in that troop! Momo is the Alpha that is it!

They do groom but I think it depends on the individual some are obsessed with it and some don't care for it the mothers usually will do it more I have noticed.As for smaller monkeys they are at it all the time and Chimps are bad for it to a point of going bald,but a lot of that is due to boredom as well. :)

Eu amo muito Kintaro e Genki, sei que ele sofre abusos do Gentaro e Momotaro, o Zoo precisa tomar uma providência quanto a isso, já li comentário de pervertido achando isso muito bom, troca de lugar com o Kintaro, simples, comigo não tem papo torto, ele é o que deveria ser protegido, por isso minha consideração maior é com Kintaro e Genki que mereciam uma família melhor, Kintaro é um ótimo irmão não merece ser machucado, nunca fui a favor de levar Kintaro para morar com Gentaro, ele tem que morar com uma fêmea, Kintaro não é fêmea, ideia absurda e maldosa. Realmente Gentaro esta precisando ir embora, Kintaro ainda falta alguns anos, até lá espero um melhor planejamento para os gorilas, para Kintaro ter sua família, Momotaro poderia ter ficado um tempo no alojamento de solteiros antes de se juntar a Genki, ela é uma mãe extraordinária.
