- Kintarou has been a source of trouble for mother Genki recently. He was a little rough with mother Genki, probably because he wanted her to play with him.
When she tried to discipline Kintaro, his father Momotaro reacted, and mother Genki was a little injured.
Incidentally, the timing was (badly?) right. This happened during the slow-motion filming.
The park staff asked us how the trouble happened, so we asked them to check the video. The vet also came and confirmed the condition of mother Genki's injury. It is not a serious injury. Also, the medication for the cheeks seems to be effective. Please don't make a big fuss!

Genki literally mauled the second female put in there almost to death, and are you forgetting in that introduction video she literally mauled him FAR more viciously? Genki is a beautiful, sweet mother for sure, but she got that silverback in her. The reason she ended up with momo is because she kept trying to literally KILL every silverback they matched her with. She also is prone to literally taking giant dumps on her childrens heads.

She is trying to avoid him but he is relentless, he always had tantrums about it but directly to her like he is now. Momo tried to mate this morning maybe she is in estreus. The thing was Genki was so mad at Kintaro that she showed her teeth to him with her whole mouth opened. Momo saw that as a threat to Kinny. He went after her for that. He loves Kinny so much.

I think kintaro feels bad for his mom. During the attack he was holding on to dads fur. I think he was trying to help. 😢 poor Genki. Kintaro is still little he’s only 4. 😊 He just wants to constantly play around. He needs someone his age to wear him out and then take a nap. Lol. Love this family though I’m disappointed in momotaro at the moment. I hope he don’t hurt Genki bad one day.😮

Kintaro needs a blow up doll or gentaro and momo to teach how to relieve his tension that's why he keeps bugging Genki. He has been bothering for a very long time and she is trying to avoid him and he does not like it

I know 2 growing boys can be a handful but it's time Momo takes Kintaro over his knee a few times! That little monster is getting everyone in trouble with Momo. I watch 3 different gorilla families and the other males don't hurt their wives like Momo does. He needs to keep his teeth and big gorilla hands off his lady. Genki is the best mother gorilla to those boys and they don't let her rest. I feel so bad for her!
Momo lets Kintaro get away with way more than Gentaro and that creates a huge problem. Probably why Gentaro is so scared of Momo and Kintaro's isn't very scared of Momo's authority.

I believe the best solution would be to create an oasis for Genki to enter as she wants. The smaller room with an exit to the small outdoor area would be perfect. After she enters they could close the gate until she is ready to return to the boys. They could build Kintaro a fire hose swing, hang ropes from the top bars and find other toys he could play with. Momotaro was doing what silverbacks should do, protecting his son, Kintaro. He thought Genki was hurting Kintaro, just my opinion.
Momo does feel as though he should get everything including the attention. He didn't have a father to raise him so it's like Momo treats Genki as one of the boys and his agression towards Genki is happening more often. She cowers when he enters the room with Genki and caregiver's but the dirty look he gave her gave her as he took all her food with him. He's starting to become mentality unstable , hitting any three for no reason that I can see. .

Momotaro is uncharacteristically rough and aggressive with his troop. Genki hasn't looked healthy at all this year. The stress and physical rough-housing is wearing her down. I hope next year goes better for her.

前に何度か東山動物園でもこのような光景を見た事があります。
その時はシャバーニが発情期でネネさんに襲い掛かったようで、ブチギレた家族全員から追いかけられていました。
リーダーゆえの縄張り意識や男性ホルモンの所為か、シルバーバックはそのような行動を割とよく取るようです。
この家族をよく知る皆さんが仰っている通り、モモタロウは怒る理由がズレている事が多いです。
かと言ってゲンキさんを引き離す理由にはなりませんし、動物園もゲンタロウやキンタロウが自立できるようサブグラウンドに遊具を設置したり計画を立てて一生懸命フォローしてます。
あまり騒ぎすぎないように。

I've said this before but I'll say it again. She needs to be moved in with Rola. She's too old for this stuff. Silverbacks often discipline troop members when they think they are fighting and Momo already doesn't seem to care much for her since he allows Gentaro to beat on her so move her out and let the boys beat on eachother.

Hate that Momotaro attacked Genki rather than a little discipline to his son. But Kintaro sure stopped the antics with Genki as his concern for his beloved Momma took over immediately. Wonder what Gentaro was doing during the attack? He too has mistreated poor Genki. Seems like Kintaro knows it was his fault that his father got so upset with Genki.😢

Unfortunately, Genki is a victim of domestic violence. Momotaro, the father of her sons repeatedly attacks Genki for no reason at all. Since King Momotaro is never punishment, he continues to bully, bite & humiliate poor Genki. I hope that the wonderful zoo keepers ffigure out a way to protect Genki before it is too late!!! #protect Genki#
I was just thinking how even tho they live in an artificial environment, their behaviour is exactly the same as it would be in the wild. Except Momotaro would have a troop, which could be the problem here too, because they are so safe, Momotaro needs to do what male’s do, assert their dominance, and Genki is his sole target..not other males coming into his territory etc.

Maybe not. I don't think she does well with other females. I think the only thing that would make her truly happy is a baby in her arms for the rest of her life. Well, that & lots of food! Unfortunately, I think Genki is too old to conceive anymore. Too bad they don't consider her for fostering orphaned or abandoned gorilla babies. She really is the best momma!!
Instead of getting this on film and putting it out there for views they really need to give her a space to get to that keeps her from harm

これはあくまで個人的な考えですが、人間の概念で動物達の行動を当てはめる事は的外れに思いますね〜
色んな方のゴリラの動画を拝見してきました。それを踏まえると、上野のハオコさん、東山のシャバ兄さんも子供達が幼かった頃、ネネやモモコがちょっかいかけてくる子達に対して軽く反撃してると、トォリャ〜って感じでオカンに突撃して、エラい怒ってましたし。シルバーバックは基本的に子供を守る事が多い(ベビちゃんシグナル効果)モモタロウも本能的に飛びかかったと思いますしね。まぁ、人間の概念から見てたら、ゲンキは踏んだり蹴ったり😂やけどね。サブグランドできたら、恐らく⁉︎ゲン&キンでバチェラー暮らしするとかなんかな〜？したら、ゲンキはコミュ力不足のモモタロウと2人暮らしするんかな〜？

Nobody is expecting these animals to be acting like or treated like humans. Because they are in captivity, the humans caring for them need to step in where natural behavior does not occur - I don't think that Momo has been around adult silverback males - he had to learn a lot from Genki, and it seems she was a bit like a mother to him as well as the 2 boys. If there's anyone guilty of applying human concepts to animal behavior concerning this gorilla family, it's the zookeepers in these videos, who keep calling Momotaro "Genki's beloved husband" and they call Genki "Momotaro's beloved wife who he loves dearly." That's obviously ridiculous. They would have us believing that these 2 gorillas attend marriage counseling. In actuality, Genki is much older than Momo, and she's been through a lot of psychological and physical trauma, before he even came to the Kyoto zoo, where the strains of captivity actually led to her having to teach the big guy how to make babies, and Momo never had the chance to observe adult males being "husbands" or fathers. Sure, they receive more protection than they would in the wild, but the difficulties and strains that arise from living in captivity require a lot of extra help from the humans here, and it seems that Genki certainly needs and yes, DESERVES (whether that's too human a concept or not) more protection.

Penso che Momotaro era carico dei giorni passati, e a Kintaro bisogna dargli una camomilla,dava le pedate in testa a sua mamma, e aveva un espressione da impunito mentre lo faceva,come a dire " Tu non mi coccoli!? Keep her away from the large male until you zookeepers are ready for her to "copulate" with him in an attempt to have her give birth to a female before she dies (as you zookeepers said in one of the prior videos.) I know you make money off of new free gorillas, but don't do that to Genki who should be relaxing and recovering from the difficulties she's been through in her life, now that her life is almost over.

With them feeding her like this is only putting her in harms way. Momo is not going to have it go on like this for very long. If he attacks her for this it could be really bad. That is not right. If they are feeding her to see the wounds then they should have had her put her arm in the test tube to evaluate her arm. Eventually a fight could be fatal. Thats scary to think about. 23:31 Momo came in and when he turned around to leave he gave her a sturn look. That is s red flag..... Not good and those keepers should have realized the warning look. Im scared for her safety. The keepers better get their poo together in a hurry before its too late.

She gets attacked constantly by the 3 of them,her food stolen,she has lost so much weight she is always anxious,her hair is falling out,she has abcesses and her teeth need attention badly,she is depressed and it's no wonder ,yet people think this is normal,there are so many other zoos with troops that are happy all eat and play together,bigger outside spaces fresh air with minimal problems.This zoo is cruel the more I see her being mistreated the more pissed off I get,I would never go to that country for this reason alone.

Now, in gorillas, health check-ups are very common, but within the first two years of life, if this custom continues beyond this time, they can become a routine that lowers anxiety, for example to genki the food or to gentaro suck the finger.
You are right, i have notice with orangutangs , gorillas, chimps bother their mothers normally till 3_4 then i think they learn to control urges or learn to look after themselves but Kintaro has always been relentless and hounded her multiple times a day and now he is worse and she is trying to avoid him. Gentaro didnt hound her very much for that.

There's tension with all of them, and it starts with big brother. It's not his fault, he's doing what's done in the wild with dad, but this zoo is not doing its job. I can't understand why a human, a national organization doesn't get involved. At some point one of them will be severely injured. Also, keeping them together will only destroy this family forever.
Genki should not be subject to this type of horrible abuse, animal or not. They sit there and watch Genki get abused and do nothing about it. Remove Momotaro because he is too aggressive. Poor Genki.

Her caretakers gave her special treats, the ONE thing that makes her feel better ❤…they tried until Momo ruined it.
Genki's wounded hand and head, etc needs to be treated by the keepers. They gave her extra food then Momo took most of it; she's given a few more green leaves, but were they even paying attention to her being attacked and hurt. The indoor "cage' they're in is not clean , and Genki is already suffering from infection and another face abscess; an open wound is opportunity for another infection her immune system can not deal with.
I just finished watching this video and I am shocked , Kintaro's behavior towards his mom and brother . His behavior continues to escalate and I really wonder why the zookeepers are not doing something about this. Kintaro attacks his mom over and over she disciplines him but as usual he does not stop. Then the dad attacks mom because of Kintaro, then he actually comes to her looking all sad when he was the cause of the attack. He is a bully that gets away with way too much, Kintaro's aggressive behavior needs to be addressed, he needs to be taught Zookeepers where are you!!!!!!!!

Genki never engages in play time with the boys, the one time she does Momo attacks her. Poor momma Genki. It was no one's fault, Momo just has a very bad temper and doesn't know how to be a leader of his troop. He ruins everything and is very selfish.

There is no good answer for Genki. If they segregate her she will be lonely and if they leave with the rest of the troop she will have a miserable rest her life left. I think everyone would rather not see her beat up on constantly by the other three. Zoo keepers need to make a decision on her or her time will be a lot less having to fend off attacks constantly!

Estos gorilas se les a enseñado a entender y creo que han progresado mucho y son muy inteligentes ya que también sinos vamos a la historia nosotros los humanos evolucionamos segun la historia de ellos y ellos son lo mas parecido a nosotros ,los cuidadores siempre lo he escrito han realizado un gran trabajo, y han tratado a los gorilas como parte en sentido figurado como familia del zoológico pero como ellos tienen sus 5 minutos de enojos ,como los humanos,o simplemente no amanecemos de buenas como ellos pero lo que me gusta es que les han enseñado cosas y ellos las han aprendido eso es lo mas bonito y que ellos esten bien lo mas posiblemente mejor y de Genki que la vida de las mujeres gorilas sea mas corta me da tristeza porque yo he ido aprendiendo tambien de ellos y me gusta su canal ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Que lastima. GENKY estaba muy Contenta y sele veia alegre jugando con su Hijo menos KINTARO. Pero, a MOMOTARO no le gusta el Ruido, ni los juegos fuertes contra KINTARO. Creo que pensó que GENKY le estaba asiendo daño y por eso MOMOTARO reasiono atacando y Mordiendola en su mano. Pero, si me sorprendió KINTARO Que trato de Defender con una mordida pero fallo su mordida. GENTARO Cuando al escuchar los Gritos de su madre, fue rápido ayudarla. GENTARO aguara a su padre pero, el sele fue corriendo que KINTARO sele mete al medio y recibe una jalada de su padre. pero Gentaro lo sigue atrás. pero luego el , PARA pero con postura defensiva. GENTARO ya le está perdiendo el miedo a su Padre y como sabe que ya va teniendo cuerpo para enfrentarlo se postura en forma defenciva pero no lo mira a su padre, para no retarlo. Pero muy pronto se le posteara a la defensiva y lo mirara para si retarlo. Eso pasara cuando el mismo GENTARO coja más volumen de masa y coraje. Pero espero q. No llegue a nada grave.
