I just went to my local shoe store last week (Fleet feet in Chicago). They no longer carry Nike. But they a plethora of on cloud shoes. lll never be going there ever again.

Hoka Mach 4. Soft under foot, great energy return. Took at least 20 seconds off my easy mile pace versus my old Pegasus 34s (have 4 pairs of those).
Thank you Seth for all your information on shoes over the years. I have been following you for years. I am very fortunate to buy and test many of the shoes that you talk about. The shoe that I like running in so far in 2021, is the New Balance Rebel V2. It is very soft but extremely enjoyable to run in. I do different types of runs in the shoe and it just responds. Just FYI: you need to have sturdy ankles. Great shoe New Balance!
This was one of the reasons I started watching the channel in the beginning early last year
QD: Saucony Endorphin Speed is my favorite because they always feel peppy. I also managed to pick them up at a great price after the 2nd version came out. I also really like the New Balance Rebel V2.

QD: Mach4 ...so confortable...stable...light and which can pick up the pace easily for a non plated shoe...that's my best shoe in 2021 even if i love the speeds for fast workouts 👏👏👏😉🇨🇵

Love your work and daily enthusiasm! Any thoughts on a Shoe Matrix that ignores the year and put on your FAVORITES for each category? Then as a better shoe comes along, then replace that in the OVERALL matrix. Just a thought (which you might have already thought of and maybe it's too much). QOD- glad to see the Glideride in there. I'm cheap, so I just bought my fifth pair of the original Gliderides. I'm using them for almost everything. Also I'm loving the Saucony Endorphin Speed (also V 1) for tempo and road racing.

Rebel V2. That buttery feel. So addicting! Coming out from zero mileage and gained a lot of weight. Best shoe of the year.
QD: Puma has been KILLING it this year. I love the Deviate Nitro’s, but for a daily trainer, the Velocity Nitro is really good. The ASICS Novablast has been my go to shoe, but I find myself reaching for the Velocity Nitro’s more and more every day. They are just that good.
QD: Endrophin Speed. Love the snap without being a stiffer carbon plate! 👍🏼😜👟
QD: Nike Invincible - bought it to baby my legs for easy long runs when increasing mileage for my first marathon but was really surprised at how well that energy return helped up the pace on speedy days (& my knees love them :-)

QD: Asics Novablast 2. Why? I just love the bounce and the structure of the shoe. Running in those shoes is just painless. And that's the most important thing for me. Also I am really excited every time I put them on my legs. It's not a normal shoe. It's legendary already!! And... I found info about them (actually about ANB1) on this great, amazing and powerful channel!! Thank you Seth!
QD, based on your recommendation (thanks again), the Mach 4 has done just about everything for me this year. Getting pretty worn down where I strike but I’m not feeling a big loss in cushion or return, also don’t find the wear makes it lack for traction. Probably going to get a replacement pair soon.

This is great! Been using UA Phantom 2's for 9 months now and after 300 miles they started to break. Outer heel rubber got unglued and heel stitching fell apart. Seeing that I probably won't go with UA again, I'm trying to find something as cushioned, if not more... and this video helps a lot! Thanks!

QOD: still my favorite in 2021 is Saucony Speed 1. Its amazing for tempo, long runs and intervals. (thanks for for the tip in 2020).
I've ordered Asics Metaspeed Sky and are eager to test them out, also just got Saucony Pro 1, and Adidas Adios Pro 2 (however have a small injury now, so haven't tested them yet). Looking forward to it. Ive been training towards my first Marathon 😁🏞️🙌

Never ran in new balances until about a month ago and I love them. Bought the 880’s and have loved them. Completely forget they’re there.
Rebel v2 for me for sure. Mach 4 for me is wearing down quickly on the heel because my orthodics make me hit that part hard but love that ride too.

Rebel v2 followed closely by the liberate nitro. Waiting for the novablast 2 to be delivered. Very excited to go run in them.
QD: The Mach 4 for sure. Thank you for this video! I took a complete set up notes on all categories. My two future shoes when I wear out what I have got are the Asics Novoblast 2 and the NB Fresh Foam More v3 (a swap you recommended for my current Bondi 6). Also, so glad Skechers, the very underrated brand, was listed a few times and even got a fav with the Max Road 5. Now if only the running shoe stores or there retail outlets would carry them.

I love the plush cushion, durability, and price point. May try something else when I am ready for more tempo/speed work. Still working on the right trail shoe so looking forward to that matrix! I have endorphin speed and love them a lot except outsole durability. I was looking for better training shoe mostly long runs. Is Triumph good for that? The outsole lateral part of speed is worn easily.
@@monicaandhyunwootv1337 I have had the Triumphs for close to 500 miles with no obvious signs of wear. Still as comfy. BUT they are a much heavier shoe than the speed, which I also have now. Also, I am a very conservative runner - it's more of a spirited shuffle than running;)

Endorphin Speed is still my favorite shoe, probably of all time. It's the perfect balance of cushion and bounce. The Rebel v2 is a close second, though!!

I am training for a triathlon and ran into loads of injuries. Running caused the most issues. I took a running analysis where they filmed my feet and recorded the pressure points of my feet when taking a stride. I got recommend brooks for their softness and neutral sole. All my issues are gone now. Guys, take a running analysis! Before, I couldn't run 2k without my calves cramping up, now I run 10k easily without pain.
my only 2021 shoe is the UA flow velociti wind, but my favorite shoe that I've run in this year has been the Asics hyper speed

Great Matrix Seth!! Brooks Glycerin 19 is my best 2021 road shoe, it is a tweener for me. Use it for daily runs, long runs, even tempo to some extend (I’m not as fast as you!!) Comfortable, great lock down and well built. Little heavy but that’s ok for me, it make the endorphin speed and Hyperion tempo feel like feathers in comparison. Onward and upward!!

My favourite road running shoe of 2021 is the Alphafly (still), it's just so easy to run in, grippy (compared to Next%) and durable (also compared to the Next%), still bouncy after 3 marathons, half of a 106km ultra and 2 thirds of a 100 mile relay race. (this isn't the question but least favourite, probably due to how disappointed I was vs how much I paid is the metaspeed sky, just a slog for me to run in)
Love the rebel v2. Love my sketchers too. Speed elite are great shoe for under 25k
QoD: Not many will agree with me but the Altra Rivera has been my favorite running shoe so far. I have about 250 miles on my first pair and my second pair are on the way to my house so I can use for my 12 hour race August 7th. For me, it is the perfect blend of cushion and responsiveness. I use it for easy runs, long runs, and speed work. Anything softer typically tends to aggravate my PF in my left foot because my feet feel like they have to dig into the softness of the shoe to push off. I'm 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. My philosophy for running is higher cadence and staying light on the feet! :)
absolutely has to be the zoom X invincible, that energy return and support is great for someone that struggles with calf tightness. This shoe just babies the legs, but i feel it can handle the pace when you pick it up a bit. im looking forward to the 2022 version as i think the heal counter and ankle have too much padding
i never quite understood your long run category until i ran over 14 miles... the legs are always barking at that point, but more in some shoes than others XD

Question: whats the difference in feeling between the “soft” category and energy return? Are the soft ones not bouncy?
QD: Metaspeed Sky. Ran a Mona Fartlek on the road and the pace was only 10 seconds slower than my all time 5K PB that’s was completed on a track.
Cannot wait for a half marathon to complete in it, just hasn’t happened yet though.
QOD: surprisingly my favorite shoe this year has been the Torin 5 from Altra. I prefer grabbing it over my Mach 4 and endorphin speeds.
Nike Invincible is super comfortable. Thinking about that Max road 5 though. Might have to give them a try

QD: NB 1080v11 because I love the fresh foam midsole! It feels soft and responsive.

QOD: I really like the Hoka Mach 4 it is just such a great shoe. A close second for me is the endorphin speed(don’t have the endorphin speed 2 yet). I can’t wait to try out the rebel v2 as I have not felt it under my foot. But to sum it all up as a cross country runner the hoka Mach 4 is the most versatile to my needs and I absolutely love it.

QOD: I’ve loved running in the Atreyu Base Models because they’re light, have improved my foot strength, and don’t give me blisters.
RC elite V2 for 10k & 1/2 marathon..cushioned and breathability..Nike tempo next % for 5k..upper fit/heel lockdown/breathability & stability of forefoot
Rebel v2! What an amazing shoe. I just love the soft bouncy goodness! I love it so much that I'm considering picking up the RC Elite 2. I currently use the Vaporfly and Alphafly for marathons, but I'm always wanting to try something new!

Anyone know if Seth still takes shoes for the "Sharing Our Shoes"? The Nike ZoomX Invincible just were a little tight for me in the 12.5, and I forgot to log into Nike when I got them, so just looking to pass them on to someone who needs them. I figure with the move it would be a lot on Seth's end. Maybe I'll figure out how to give them away myself if anything.

Thank you Seth for an awesome Shoe Matrix. I hope the manufacture watch your reviews. I love the NB Fuel RC Elite v2's. They are light, responsive and just want me to run fast on my workout days in prep for the Chicago Marathon. I am still disappointed that shoe manufacturers don't always make their shoes in a size 14 (or above). I'm a size 14 and I would have loved to try the ASICS Metaspeed Sky, the Nike Zoomx Invincible or the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite. At size 14, my shoes are always heavier, and being able to wear lighter shoes is always enjoyable. I hate wearing heavy, clunky shoes, so please shoe manufacturers make your shoes in size 14 for us sasquatch feet runners. We need lighter shoes, too!
