Just another coincidence, and what pops in my head every time I hear "42" is Douglass Adamns's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. How many roads must a man walk down.
This makes a lot of sense considering how historically humans relate their powers and duties to that similar of snakes, across cultures and beliefs. Also the fact that other Mediterranean stories had a female serpent or dragon being killed to provide something to benefit the beings that created humans makes the story of Leviathan being slain and being eaten seem relevant (Tiamat becoming the earth and Python's fumes at the Delphic Oracle comes to mind). Meanwhile the male serpents in similar stories are either guardians or holders of the world (such as Falak from Islamic legends) or are essential for a worldly function (Apep being the reason why Ra must make his journey, giving the day cycles). There are exceptions to the rule and it's not as strict outside of the Mediterranean, but it's still a strong pattern within a geographical area.
That would also explain why in almost all cultures, there was a positive association with snake gods, snake spirits or giant snakes being guardians generally or helping protect order. (Wadjet in Egypt, Zeus' chthonic snake form, the black snake in Yezidism, another black snake with ears in Korean myth and multiple nagas in India are all examples of this... that's just naming a few).

I tend to associate Leviathan with the abyss and chaos. There are many monsters that seem to have similar symbolism. You slay the monster(ego?) and you take its treasure and are crowned king(Keter), or reach enlightenment, attain unity with god, or go up a level, and so on.

A very interesting observation, and one I'm inclined to agree with. The Book Of Job always struck me as a fascinating text, being modeled as a reasoned moral discourse throughout it's majority only for the central debate of morality- why does evil happen to good people?- being completely abandoned once the "accused" finally appears to Job's almost legalistic appeal. Many have interpereted God's response as "I am an ineffable bully so how dare you question me", but I always thought this was off the mark. The sudden pivot into arguably the aesthetics of God's power invoked to me almost an appeal to the Kantian Sublime, as if to instead say "you are fundamentally off the mark to appeal to me with reason, not because I will browbeat you with power but rather because I am categorically beyond reason itself." This idea you're suggesting of Leviathan and God's dynamic indicating God as singularity and God as Multiplicity would certainly echo the same idea. God's response then would not indicate awesome power necessarily but rather that Job is asking the wrong questions by conceiving of God in such a limited way. As such, God could not even be coherently put into question with respect to any appeals to Justice due to his manifestation as a universal singularity ALONG WITH universal multiplicity due to the fact that universal multiplicity inherently contains all opposites and contradictions within it. "You attempt to hold me to account for injustice, but your conception of me is limited such that you forget that I contain the very dualism of Justice and Injustice through my monadic singularity manifesting as expansive multiplicity".

If anything I completely agree, and seems to be a problem to any text or tradition that tries to convey perennial transcendent wisdom allegorically through an anthropomorphized deity or being. "Yes, I, a being who looks, talks, and thinks just like you, is utterly transcendent and beyond conception. Just take my word for it." Taking a cursory look at history, it seems the problem we've pointed out of navigating the sticky space between allegory and literalism has been something of an endemic, hasnt it 👀

It is crazy how in tune a lot of us magicians are. I love your videos. I always get excited when you release one because you always confirm/corroborate everything I have been thinking about/pondering since the last video lol. Just another one of those internal confirmations that you are discerning more and more and that GPS is getting sharper by the day. Kudos my friend, & peace be with you always.
I also think the stories of snakes definitely are depicting the movement of energies, the words "slithering" and "winding" come to mind. Maybe these numbers correlate to the 12 main meridians of the body and the 6 sub channels that follow/"slither" through each one of them. 12 x 6 = 72. I have always understood it as we are actually calling on powers that are within us externalized. The utterance and intent apply the pressure through the symbol or container/word which is the power of the cup that the magician learns to use and manipulate. I think this is what made the word of mouth teachings so important. I also think this is how similar magics can look different on the outside but inside they are the same. There is an internal pattern to everything and this is one of the big things to remember when becoming a magician
Through a tortuous path I found out that Leviathan is an ancestor of the Tarrasque, the dragon-like monster that was pacified by Saint Martha. I can't but help see a direct connection between the Saint and Leviathan, and this video provides more links. Many thanks!

You both have very similar takes on us being a gateway for these things and how we are connected to the 3 spaces of heaven. An orthodox interpretation of the Whore of Babylon and the Beast is that it's referencing the Roman Empire, with Rome "sitting" on 7 hills, and 666 = Emperor Nero

Nearly every morning I put the light on it is 3, 6, or 9 , on their own i.e 6.30, or add up to one, like 6.18, or 5.52 ...nearly always 3, 6 or 9 ....... occasionally not, but it is now WAY more than a random thing .............. PS Had to get the calculator out 9+3= 12 , x 6 = 72 ;) lol . All those Gallery of Magick books may be working more than I know, and I know they work, BIG time.

Very interesting associations, indeed. Besides that, Leviathan is the Jewish "version" of the Primordial Dragon-Mother Tiamat, Goddess of Chaos (Sumerian/Babylonian Mythology), and origin of everything that exists. Other versions include the Dragon Lotan, who also has 7 heads, just like Satan in the book of Revelation (or Apocalypse, don't remember), in which Satan is depicted, precisely as a dragon with seven heads. The Draconian Gods of Chaos represent the Multi-Dimensional Freedom, as opposed to the Gods/Entities who imposed the Cosmic Order, ruled by laws and hierarchies. Which includes, obviously, the Abrahamic God.
Would the Leviathan also be linked to Jörmungandr? An Axis Mundi Serpent associated with the end of days

Some food for thougths, in the litterature of the Hecahlots (Sefer Brith Menouh'ah) Iehoel is of the ruling angels of Briah with Shemouel and Metatron. Iehoel means "Eternal God", he also the prince of the Seraphim in Yetzirah. With Shemoel and Metatron, Iehol is one of the 8 guardians to the Merkavah, you have to call them to protect you while you "rise" to the heavens.
Regarding the "math", I think that the universal shitivi from Jacobus Swart (the book of sacred names) is a nice illustration of the interplay of the name of 42 letters and the name of 72 letters. The name of 42 is split into 6 names of 6 letters plus the last one of 6 letters merging all of them (6x6)+6. To each letters of the 6 first names correspond 2 triplets of the name of 72. However each name of 6 letters can be split into 2 words of 3 letters, as explained in the book, giving us 6 triplets for the part of 3 letters, 6 triplets for the second part, for all 6 words (6+6)x6. The daily practice associtate to it the book is very effective at bringing the powers of the name of 42 and 72 letters into you life.

@Foolish Fish Looking at the eastern/Indian tradition I was immediately reminded of the Kundalini as the serpent and the Nadis, energy lines. Out of thousands of nadis, 72 nadis are considered important / and 10 of them are also important / out of these 10 main nadis, the 3 most important ones are IDA, PINGALA and SUSHUMNA.

The fish had a jewel that cast light in its belly and its eyes were like stained glass and it told jonah "today is my day to be eaten by leviathan". Jonah went before the monsters face and told it he was going to put a hook in its mouth and serve it during the great banquet to the righteous. And leviathan swam 3 days away from him in terror. Then the fish showed him the pillars of the earth where the sons of Korah are praying... it's a great story but Google is worthless these days.

In Ba׳al Cycle, Ba'al Hadad (the warrior god of rain, storm and life giving) fights Yam (the formidable god of the salty mediterranean sea who is currently the king of gods) to become the king and faces the serving monsters of Yam, one of them is Leviathan. In modern Hebrew the word "Leviathan" means a whale, the largest kind of animals. I think that the leviathan represents the greatness, mysterious and dark force of the deep sea, the unseen places and even the unconscious. So, in a semiotic approach it's easy to connect it with the devil.
Levi-tan: snake joined together. He is considered the king of the proud, because he is unconquerable and covered in beautiful colorful scales. His hide will be used as a canopy and his meat fed to the redeemed and they will be told "go forth this day in the strength and beauty of leviathan." (The mighty devourer consumed by the meek)
In 2.07 there is also a Canaanite version of the story, almost word for word only with Baal,
The word for sea and the name of the god of the sea are the same, a he is one of the sons/helpers of the sea god in mythology
I think you have discovered something essential as it would make sense in the various worldviews magic can be seen through. It being the number of man would make sense if you view consider the 72 angels/demons as parts of ourselves.

Lamech and the book of Cain is a really great book to read about leviathan. And of course the Koran to read about the beast. But gnostic texts also do lend quite a bit to both.

I think the fact that the name of god is derived from the number of the beast maybe lends a little credibility to the creator god being the gnostic demiurge and possibly an evil figure. Idk just my thoughts, I’m newish to this.

Yes! I truly believe that it's the whole point! I'm constantly seeing people focus exclusively on one side or the other, and suffer as they (unavoidably) fail to do so. 🤷♂️
The Spark of Divinity which resides in the center of each of us - and which connects us to the Heavens, the Earth, and the Underworld - embeds the pattern of the Central Axis of Divinity within each and every living being.
You make alot of valid points that I agree with. Yes, it would be quite arrogant to assume that we have full dominion over those realms. Well, that is if you interpret beings who "reside" there as actual gods and not what they are, which is different expressions of Divinity. Now, when I say Divinity, I am referring to the creative and destructive power of the Universe. The symbolism of the pattern of the central axis being embedded within every living being connects us to this Divine power of creation, and refers to the power given to us to enact change in not just our lives in the material realm, but also in the inner realms.
"The Kingdom of God resides within man." This tells us that we, the people, have the power to change their reality for the better. And through dedicated study, we can learn to traverse the inner realms to humbly seek assistance from inner beings to make our will manifest. But we are most certainly visitors, diplomats, to those realms since we are materail beings. But more to the point, the central axis reminds us that, although we are of the material plane, we are all, in essence, divine beings. So traversing these realms, and even being custodians of them, would not be as presumptous as it initially seems, as long as we traverse those realms with humility, integrity, and respect for the ancient beings and powers which came before us to lay out the patterns for us to safely follow to reach them.
Besides, if we are, in fact, divine beings, then isn't it our responsibility, nay, our duty to help make sure that all the realms are looked after and taken care of? The key here is, like Foolish Fish mentioned, Balance. As a divine being, you have a duty to live your life in a Balanced manner. If you focus on just one or two realms, while neglecting the others, then you will inevitably encounter more struggle than is necessary since you are not living in a Balanced manner.
This is just the way I interpret things, and should not be viewed as the only, or even the correct, interpetation of this topic. As with most things dealing with esotericism, your mileage may vary, and it is up to you to experiment with and learn what does and doesn't work for you. This interpretation serves and works for me, but it may not work for you. @@genghisgalahad8465
Correct me if in wrong, but when I was a Catholic we always knew 666 to be code for the early Christians and it was in reference to Nero. It's a numerical language.
I would say this: Occult knowledge of the medieval period was rarely if ever supposed to be obvious;
the old grimoire’s are supposed to be laden with hidden messages; who can say with certainty how these are meant to appear?
It’s true more modern occult books are far more direct-but nonetheless they take their sources and cues from them and from experience.
I feel it might be significant-numerology ( if that is strictly what we’re working with) seems to have a hard time gaining any real credibility compared to other esoteric practice, yet it is still essentially mathematics at its core.
How we need a fiction to get us through the mundane nature of surviving.

This helps explain a bit of revelation I had in a dream a few months ago. In the dream I remember the phrase, "Metatron is suspended in the coils of Abraxas." Yahoel and Metatron are often considered to be the same angel, namely the Prince of the Presence or at times even the "Unique Cherub" or "body" of God seen in prophetic revelations. Abraxas then is connected with the year or 365, the sum of his name. He is also depicted as anguipedal, serpent legged, and solar, the rooster's head being a symbol of the Sun. Jumping from this, the sum of the square of the Sun is 666. I've been trying to unpack the meaning of that dream phrase and you've definitely given me a key to understanding it. Thank you!
I also just remembered that in the Zohar, Leviathan is at times related to Yesod/Tzaddik, the ninth Sephirah, and Yahoel or Metatron is at times related to Malkhuth, the tenth Sephriah, which is also related to the Shekhinah and in the Idra Rabba the Partzuf of the Nuqva. The Zohar also talks about the Shekhinah being replaced by Lilith after the destruction of the Second Temple and Lilith is related to the the Qlippotic version of Malkhuth and Yesod along with Samael.

What you say is nothing new to the Jewish kabbalah.
1 - The 42 angels of Alchemy published by GOM which talk about the 42 angels of the 42 letter name is actually talking about the (Seraphim) associated with the 42 letter name, so what are the Seraphim? They are serpents.

Do you know about the Nehushtan? It originates in Numbers 21, and is mentioned in 2 Kings 18 as well; and is directly referenced by Jesus in John 3:14. I was reminded of the latter in particular by your discussion of the gematria of "Messiah" and "Serpent" in Hebrew being the same, which no doubt the author of John knew in Jesus self-referencing by way of the Nehushtan. I've been fascinated by the Nehushtan for over 26 years now, and wrote about it in one of my classes as an undergraduate, and then also wrote a paper on it when I was in my M.A. program and was taking a class on the Pentateuch.

I would suggest you to try other sights over the matter. Try, if you can, put the judeo-christian paradigm aside and momentarily assume other belief systems. Leviathan has been considered a hebrew development of the Babylonian Apsu, the Great Dragon of the primordial Chaos. The other polarity of this primordial force, of course, being The Great Tiamat, the multi-headed Dragon, or Serpent. Tiamat is the Chaotic womb from where everything that came to be manifest was born. And will be the end of everything that exists, at the end of this cosmic cycle, when all return to Chaos. So, She is at the beginning and at the end. She manifests in many ways, in many Magical Systems, with many names. Some consider the 'demons', or however one name those beings, as epithets to the Great Dragon, as all power comes from Her. Maybe She manifested Herself for you, and your mind could only translated such an experience as numbers. Just saying. ; )
We all know that 666 is a big deal, right? KJV calls it the number of a man. Funny thing, all through Revelation, there’s 1/3 of trees, seas, creatures, souls, etc. are lost in various ways. Okay, 1/3 = .33 Right? Now, if you look at 666 as a repeating decimal, .666 + .333 = 1. What’s up with that? It almost looks like 666 , 2/3, is what’s going to be left.
