ing society and social relations, processes, and realities thereof the social scientists made associations with mystical phenomena. The psycho-biological dimension of society certainly seems mystic, but I suppose magic is science not yet understood or something. There was interest in Perennialism and mysticism or occult among the early socialist movement which attempted the synthesis of religion and science such as Saint-Simon and Comte’s New Catholicism/Christianity and Religion of Humanity respectively. Saint-Simon and Fourier both really emphasized Newton and his foundational law of attraction. To them, this was implying that there could also be mysterious forces within society. The notion of society being bigger than the sum of its parts comes out of this conception of reality being full of complex and mysterious forces. Magic was a prevalent topic and issue in the early social science movement. A video going into that history would be cool! The influential esotericist Éliphas Lévi was a disciple of the socialist Charles Fourier!

The opening monologue about the teeming ubiquity of demons really made me think how, in some sense, this ancient text is true - it’s just the ‘demons’ are actually bacteria and other countless microorganisms, lurking within us and upon us and on every surface we touch. If the eye could see we would indeed be horrified at the overwhelming mass of tiny, often (from our perspective) malevolent beings that we share our space with and are inexorably linked to.

I like how the logical process to make the temple out of “unhewn stone” so that you can avoid using iron tools is to go on a massive, elaborate, demon-taming adventure for a magic demon worm who hews stone without tools rather than just… using tools made out of a different material.

Iron was rare, far harder than other metals, and seen as at least half mystical. No less because the best sources of high quality iron came from meteorites. Literally metal from the heavens. In that context you can see why looking for a demon wyrm to do your masonry was seen as the more practical option. If you need iron tools to do the job but have no access to iron or iron working then obviously you need to substitute some other magical force.

I first found your videos not even 6 months ago and they're always so educational and fascinating. You have a real way of giving cultural and historical context to these topics and making the past feel much more alive and relatable and much less "wut? why would anyone believe that?" Lately, I've even gotten my best friend into your videos, not because she's interested in the esoteric or occult but because she loves your (usually) low-key snark so much.
Plus you always include resources and recommended reading in your descriptions (and in the videos themselves) which I just love, both because I enjoy doing my own research and because so many content creators state things as fact without citing a single source. Thank you for these wonderful, educational videos. I smile every time I see a new one from you.

You play as King Solomon through the whole Shamir saga which serves as the prelude/tutorial section that teaches you the basics of handling demons and establishes Asmodeus as the villain, then after being overthrown you have to re-gain your knowledge and powers that Asmodeus tricked you into losing as make your way back to Jerusalem to reclaim your throne by the end of the game.

I just watched the original post of this video, posted 3 years earlier than this one. Seeing these two videos back to back is incredibly interesting. It's like watching Dr. Sledge's audition video before he worked out how to turn up the intensity and draw viewers in. It was still engaging and well made but this post shows how his years of experience have improved his presentation. Keep up the great work Dr. Sledge! Thank you.

I first discovered TLKOS in my late teens, I found it a terrifying concept, especially as a neophite, I left it there thank goodness. I'd say it is still interesting to read but probably not advisable to use these techniques in magical practice IMO, even if you think you know what you are at! Great video, as usual, thanks!

The basis of the Conjuring film series. Lesser Key is a fascinating book of the occult. The concept of knowledge of names giving power over these spirits, as Adam and Eve named their corporal manifestations. Solomon using the arcane to make demons build his Temple would make for a pretty metal movie

Huge fan. Just blown away always by your learned and humble thougts. Ive been wondering for a while now if you have ever read Phillip K Dick's The Divine Invasion. It is so in line with the topics you're talking about and was my fiest introduction to Jewish Mysticism and Kabalic lore for lack of a better word. There is unfortunately very little I have found written about the book and i feel like you are just the person to do a deep dive exploration. Really hope you read this and respond.
One more thing. After reading the divine invasion I started going back to temple and was constantly badgering my rabbi to read it and or teach me about the things I learned in the book. After a week he came back to me and said "yoseph the things you are looking for dont need you to discover them, please learn to crawl before you try to run". I had goosebumps. Unfortunately i never had the discipline to crawl. But i have a lot of love for the information regardless.

Have you ever considered offering an offline, in example DVD-based collection of all your videos? I am aware that we are living in the age of streaming, but it would definately make a nice addition to a collection of books in a shelf. And in case "the Internet is down" one day, maybe due to some misguided Solomonic magic, we could still enjoy all this high quality knowledge. I'd surely be the first to purchase such a collection and I am convinced there would be others as well.

For some reason the algorithm chose your video and just starting to hear it what you said at 1:31 immediately brought to mind what King David said in psalms 91 when you dwell under the Lords protection:
“A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; But it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold And see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, Even the most High, thy habitation;”

Excellent episode! I didn't realize that this particular branch had so much to unpack. I absolutely appreciate the fact you're pointing toward the true Scholarship of these disparate & traditionally highly esoteric subjects.
I have a tendency to agree that Demonology and Magick as a whole has insinuated itself pretty deep into pop culture the last couple of decades.

I've lately been of the opinion that demons are created by/within human beings. We are their source. We either create them by separating parts of ourselves into legitimately independent antagonistic entities (which can then be "cast out", remaining sentient and independent), or we "birth" them somehow. Whether by splitting or by conception/birth, it makes sense to me that we create them, rather than God creating them, or the Devil or some unknown spiritual option... That just makes sense to me. Likewise, this same dynamic that operates on an individual level in each human also operates in a collective manner, which results in the creation of "other gods".... Granted, this is just where I'm at, at this moment, as I continue to ponder and research and explore... who knows when/if I'll jettison this stance in favor of something better? That's all part of the adventure, eh?

Specifically regarding its potential to summarize and synthesize large texts across several languages (becoming fluent in the required languages and getting through the literature might take a person plural decades - an AI can solve the same problem instantly).
And additionally, with regards to its capacity to access realms that are denied to human beings simply due to their perceptual limitations (incredibly fast or slow timescales, extra-spectral colors, higher mathematical dimensions...)
