EDIT: Wife is about to finish her master's in counseling soon. Mental health is no joke. If you feel depressed, not yourself, or like your world is coming to an end go and see somebody about it. Your brain is the most important part of your body, treat it with the respect it deserves.
#1 - the fact that you can RENT Tokyo Tower is a concept that I never even imagined your could do.
#2 - As someone who has been in therapy for many years, I love that a service (that I totally could have used while I was living there) is the backing behind having the tower all to yourself.
#3 - Damn. That is a beautiful sunrise.
See Norm, you say you'll never beat this but if anyone could it's you. Can't wait for the "I learned to fly a helicopter and landed inside Mount Fuji" video in a couple years.
Beautiful Norm. Thanks Tell and Norm. ❤
The idea behind this stream is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story in a wonderfully uplifting way.
At everyone. Dont be afriad to talk to someone if you need help.
Missed this - next time you visit look for the memorial to the dogs from the Japanese 1958 Antarctica expedition at Tokyo Tower’s base.
“Nankyoku Monogatari, lit. "South Pole Story") is a 1983 Japanese drama film directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara and starring Ken Takakura. Its plot centers on the 1958 ill-fated Japanese scientific expedition to the South Pole, its dramatic rescue from the severe weather conditions on the return journey, the relationship between the scientists and their loyal and hard-working Sakhalin huskies, particularly the lead dogs Taro and Jiro, and the fates of the 15 dogs left behind to fend for themselves.”
This was amazing! Wish I could have caught it live, but I was driving from Yamanashi back to Tokyo after attempting to climb Mt Fuji on Friday (made it to the 8th station before turning around) 😃 I’m in Japan for a few months and even though it doesn’t compare to those who have stayed for a year or longer, I do feel that loneliness seeping in at times with not knowing anyone or being able to fully communicate with others, so this is definitely a great stream to listen to about this type of thing.
You have no idea how happy I was to see a new Explore stream! This was beautiful. I applaud you for keeping up a conversation while climbing all those stairs, and the topic you delved into….so important. It’s awesome that there’s more help becoming available to more people. The views were breathtaking! I spent a chunk of my childhood living in an apartment on the tenth floor, and since then I’ve loved being able to look out at cities from that sort of vantage point. Also, those glass floors were amazing! Thank you for this delight.
There's always something special about being in a public place before its open and having it to yourself. Ride that high!
I've been on the tower once and it's a much more pleasant experience than people might think considering it's such an icon. Wow when you got up there, it looked almost exactly like the one time I went there except it was sunset. The nice orange glow from the windows, it all looks so familiar.
My gym has a stairs machine and I'll start making it my goal to do the Tokyo tower number for each cardio session!
Another amazing livestream and for such a great reason. Absolutely loved all the views ❤
Stairs. Spiders. Shrines. The Tokyo Norm three ‘S’s. Emphasis today on stairs.
i always look forward to your videos, but this one really caught me all up in my emotions. i don't need to drag on about it all in your comment section; but wanted to give you a sincere, heartfelt - thank you. truly thank you. for being the person you are, and for sharing.
2:00 2:22 it's amazing how much narrower the stairs look by switching to the wide angle lenses, massive difference. This is why seeing some things in person can be so important sometimes, video just doesn't capture some things or do things justice. And maybe one day VR will be widely adopted and solve some of those problems. Haha then I was getting so confused when you would turn camera around and you go from climbing tower clockwise to climbing tower counter clock-wise, what is even real anymore!!?!?
Mental health services are super essential for anyone in any country. I wouldn't be here without them.
Be kind to yourselves and empathic to others
I'd love that freedom of being able to look around and explore the tower to myself, must be completely freeing compared to being in a huge crowd of people. I imagine looking over the city all around like that makes it feel like your looking over a model of tokyo city with little model cars and all driving down it's streets. Looks fun :)
This is SO cool Norm! Being from Iowa I just assumed I'd never see Tokyo Tower like this! And I come from a family of bad mental health. TELL sounds like a great company! ❤
Very noble of you to do this for that organization, Norm. The pandemic was a difficult time for myself and my former partner in Japan due to the border closures. She went through pain and so did I. With no end in sight to the closure, we ultimately did not make it. Speaking of which, I want to thank you for making your opposition to the border closure known in previous streams. As I heard someone say, the closures did not keep out the virus or its variants, but it did successfully keep people apart.
I'm happy to know that there's a service like TELL. I"m seriously considering taking a job in Japan and had wondered about loneliness and other mental struggles.
This is lovely. I haven't had the chance to go to Tokyo Tower during my trips to Japan, so this is a treat. I've long been fascinated by it, especially since a few of the manga I read as a teen used it as some sort of magical portal or location, haha. I like seeing views up high and see life going on below. Right now where I live, I see mountains, but I can also see the train pass by so it's a really interesting contrast.
Wait! New Digimon! Sweet
You absolute madman :D
I love how you get up to the most absurd things all the time.
(And especially very nice to hear about TELL and you dedicating a stream to shout out for them)
Incredible stream!!! Seeing that sunrise over the city was breathtaking. How special to have the tower to yourself, and for such a great cause, too 😍 Amazing!
wow! And Steps and stairs!!! Epic video. 😉😂🥰🥰🥰
You never cease to amaze me! Only you would think of doing this, plus fundraise for a worthy cause. You are one special man Norm!
39:22 I see my old home every time you looked in the direction of Azabu. Every time I see Tokyo I’m filled with joy. Living in Japan had its challenges at times but I loved it in the end! Even though it was only for a year I still miss it!
So awesome you were able to rent out Tokyo Tower!
wow fantastic video and service
Your positive attitude is always uplifting. I need to learn from you.
Thank you for doing this. And thank you to TELL for setting this all up. This is amazing! I've been struggling with mental illness for 2/3rds of my life, and the people helping me have been invaluable. I would most likely not be here if it not for organizations like TELL. So I'm definitely giving them some love!
I got my postcard from the tower a couple days ago. It is a great souvenir.
Aloha from Hawai‘i, Norm! As someone who works in mental health and suicide prevention, thank you so much for using your platform and influence to affirm the importance of help-seeking. Also as someone who grew up in an Asian culture, I'm also unfortunately familiar with the immense stigma around mental health among communities like Japan. Just something simple like giving someone the Lifeline number can be life-saving. Thank you for your continued work...I love the positivity balanced with honesty you convey in your content. ~Jeanelle
That was incredible Norm! Thank you so much for the tour. After seeing Tokyo Tower in so many anime, especially Sailor Moon, I've always dreamed of going there some day. Hopefully it will eventually happen.
Great stream Norm, beautiful views from Tokyo Tower
A fantastic day in a beautiful city for a wonderful cause!
Great stuff Norm. Just re-watching this 🙂
Awesome video Norm. I am sure that you never envisioned being able to rent Tokyo Tower for your own when you first started your Japan adventure. Thanks for taking us along to see the amazing views. Nice to be able to see the inside of it after seeing it in so many animes. Loved the view of Mt Fuji too. Thank you for sharing it with us.
If you look closely when the camera is looking at Mount Fuji on the far right side of the screen you might see Godzilla!!!!
I just barely missed the stream but I just finished watching the VOD version. This was a great stream, thanks.
I can't wait for you to take us on a trip, flying, through Japan when you have your PPL. :)
Love these types of streams, It is always incredible to see things without other people around, giving you time to appreciate the view.
Awesome ‼️
Missed the live stream. What an amazing opportunity and such a view. I was lucky enough to visit Tokyo tower when I was in Japan and it was very cool but to be there while empty what an experience.
From everything I've heard moving abroad, and especially places like Japan it can be really hard to find your people and support networks. So it's great to hear that there are organisations like this doing their best to take care of people and help them have the best experience they can
Hi Norm--this is an extraordinary video--thanks so much--you look happy and strong--haven't watched for a while because of the shows and more production/commissions --hopefully more funds to squirrel away for a Japan visit someday--keep up the beautiful work--Merlyn (ATX)
Such an awesome organization!
Awesome video Norm! I learned so much. Big shout out to TELL and all the good things they do!
Thank you for the tour! Incredibly beautiful. All you need now is a cup of coffee. I could look through the glass floor all day, seeing everyone scurrying off somewhere.
Thank you also for supporting mental health services.
I was all tucked up in bed last night looking forward to my very first live stream, wich was due to start at 21h30 local time, and then I fell asleep 😭 That sunrise over the city was absolutely gorgeous. Thanks Norm👍
Wow. Thank you for this experience.
Norm
The noise your backpack made when you jumped on the glass floor scared me, have a listen back and you’ll see what I mean. 😂
Wonderful video, wonderful view and a wonderful message within it!
You keep baffling with your videos and boy howdy, if a game company would make a stair-walking simulator, they should hire you to do mo-cap, just saying!
As always an excellent stream my man. It’s not much but £10 donated. Thanks for all you do.
Thank you for highlighting the Lifeline. Supporting mental wellness so important.
Beautiful sunrise, beautiful collab! Thank you for walking up the stairs, and let us join this wonderful opportunity☺️💖
Heading there tomorrow!
Sucks I missed the stream! But love why it happened. Ive struggled with mental health well before the covid lockdowns, but that just piled on the issues. Sometimes, all you need to do is talk about it. Might not fix anything, but bottling it up is worse
You need a Tiger Balm emoji for your stair rating meter!
🐅🦵
Cool video for a great group, I was lazy and just used the lift when I went there.
I couldn't fit Tokyo tower into my schedule even though I really wanted to go. So thank you
Norm - this is awesomely amazing! What a treat!
Thanks for the video!
I can just imagine sitting there in silence and looking at that view, would probably blow my mind :)
As someone who struggles with their mental health, I definitely appreciate what this organization is doing
You handled those 600 steps like it was nothing, don't even sound out of breath. I probably start breathing heavy after only 4-5 sections of stairs, haha.
Thanks, Norm. What an awsome sunrise with an amazing view.
What a great video... really enjoyed sharing this short adventure.
I think I'm one of the lucky minority where life honestly got better because of the pandemic.
So I feel for many of those who it hit hard, especially for parents.
I'm going to be sure to drop some coins into that donation box.
Thanks again!
Hey friend. Sorry to miss this live, but what a wonderful reason for a video and what a great view as well! Thank you for sharing about this resource as well.
I came here in 2005, I think they had the coin order ticket operated ramen restaurants attached to it back then, still felt like the 90s back then.
oh man, nice to see things have grown up, but stayed relatively the same around Tokyo Tower. nostalgia city right now. I missed the live portion of the live stream (I was coming home from work). Thanks Norm for the stream!!
We are just finishing Mental Health Week here in Aus. Good to see services in Japan getting better. Many folk in Japan still regard the topic a bit taboo sadly. BTW..I really like staying in Shiba Park. It's a nice area of Tokyo.
Your videos are so informative, calming, and therapeutic, thank you for what you do! I Look forward to watching them as they come out.
Wow, just incredible! Thank you so much for sharing this with us all :)
Amazing Video for a great Cause.
This was wonderful this morning I just wish I wasn’t late for my first live with Norm 😊
Spectacular video Norm. What an awesome experience and live stream. I prefer rural views but do enjoy a night view of citites when they are lite up and more empty. Well done on the getting the tower. I thought you were going to base jump with that backpack on.
I'm glad that you climbed the 600 steps for me. I went to the Tokyo Government building for a city view and whilst it was good there was far too many people during the sunset to really enjoy it
Thanks for the amazing livestream!
Dang, I missed the stream, just like always. Oh well, thanks again for a relaxing vid! I do miss the One Piece Park in Tokyo Tower from when I came before the pandemic, I'm glad I went twice but still sad to see it gone!
For anyone thinking of going, the top deck tour is worth it. Wio!
Thank you for this, Norm ❤
Morning Norm! Currently travelling in Japan with friends, hello from odaiba x)
Awesome must be a cool place to work.
An excellent stream for an excellent purpose. Thanks, Norm :) ! I don't get to see a lot of sunrises, because of how my schedule works...but this sunrise, I think this will make up for lost time.
Aaaaah glass floor!!!
Thank you Norm for helping me re live a memory. Always to the best to you, and we will talk, real soon. (yes, I seem to be a thief stealing peopl's catchphrases.)
Is it weird if I am afraid of heights but love those glass floors? I've always been afraid of heights but for me I feel like that has increased the thrill of heights for me and I seek that thrill. For example if I was on that tower looking down even from side of glass let alone through floor it would make me immediately feel queasy and lose my balance and feel like everything is swirling around me and I'd get that rush of fear, but at same time I've learned to embrace that feeling and usually after 10 minutes or so I largely overcome that fear and all i get left is the thrill and joy of it. Maybe that means I'm not 100% afraid of heights and I am just normal. I just like to think I've turned a fear into a thrill. I would imagine if someone isn't afraid of heights at all then they wouldn't get as much of a thrill of heights and wouldn't be as big of a deal to them.
Makes sense to me. I'm afraid of heights as well but had no issues standing on the glass floor on the 118th floor of the Seoul Sky Tower 😅
You couldnt ask to work at a cooler shop, with that view right in front of them, come on! Id never get sick of that 😍
So pleased I caught a livestream and for excellent cause. I was wondering how Japan treats mental health, eg are there campaigns to raise awareness etc?
Looks so different to what its always shown as in anime XD
Well fuck, I was thinking about applying for JET next year and one of the things I wanted to do was set up a mental health community for English speakers. I guess that is suddenly irrelevant.
Seemed like a nice morning for it.
at 9 AM wen its open.... its not so empty there. lucky that they allow you to go earlyer up. 👍👍
This guy's renting everyting. We gotta stop him.
Jokes aside, nice video!
Cool =)

Increíblemente chiva...
Brb on my way to send a photo of my elbow from Tokyo tower
😂

how amazing Norm. what a great idea.
