Karcher - Dirt Blaster Copy - Replacement - 5th April, 2020

  • Having failed to repair my Karcher Dirt Blaster Lance two weeks ago, see;
    • Karcher - Dirt Blaster... ,
    I admitted defeat, and had a look for a replacement.
    An original Karcher Dirt Blaster Lance (£44.99) was too rich for my blood. There were quite a few Dirt Blaster copies, with a converter to integrate with the Karcher connection system (£9 to £15, including delivery), but, these were mostly from China, and would take around 1 month to arrive in the UK.
    I did, however, eventually found one of the Chinese Dirt Blaster copies, available in the UK, for only £8.89, so I snapped it up; and three days later it arrived for me to test.

    Here is the way that helped me. The nozzle jammed and gave a straight stream, the pressure was ok. What I did: "I found a way to start the nozzle without disassembling it. Just squirt the lithium grease in the spray inside the nozzle from the outlet side. Lubricating even a wet nozzle makes it run like new. 20 minutes. Then you have to repeat it and the working time is longer. Fairy tale. I recommend it. I used CX80 Lithium lubricant. " My nozzle got a second life, after a few cycles with grease, I washed 350 square meters of the driveway. RECOMMEND

      Thanks Liam! Whilst in lockdown, it is amazing how interesting such a task has become; at any other time, I would have just binned the old lance, and bought a new Karcher one. Hope you, Ally & Seamus are staying safe? Ian :-)

      Thanks Mr Kent! Yes, I was so pleased when I managed to get the original Dirt Blaster to spin again (even if it was quite wobbly), but, when it ceased to do so, I thought I would give a cheap alternative a try. Not sure how long the copy Dirt Blaster will last, but, I guess that can be the subject of another video. Ian :-)

    I love it when a cheap replacement works. The cost of an original is typical of named brands as we know in our RC flying hobby.
    Something different during lockdown. :-)

      Thanks Mike! I was reasonably pleased, although the copy didn't produce as much pressure as the original Karcher one ( when it used to work). Watch this space, for my next "something different" video. Ian :-)

    The repair failed because you didn't use stainless steel washers, you used pieces of plastic card... That said, if the cheap copy lasts then that's a good buy so well done and thanks for the video 🙂

      Thanks for your comments! I haven't really used my copy DB lance very much, as yet; but, if it doesn't last a year, then at least it was a lot cheaper than a real one.

    There's a much easier way to fix it. Take the dirt blaster off, drain any water out and dribble some ordinary oil down the outlet hole. That's it, no dismantling needed.

    The Chinese versions do not allow the fitment of the dirt blaster shield which i use to cut down on 99% of splashing.. The Chinese nozzle has protruding ribs and no groove to allow the dirt blaster shield to secure into..

      Yes, I got sick of trying to repair the old one; very frustrating. The copy/replacement is OK, but, as I say in the video, isn't as powerful as an original Karcher Dirt Blaster. Stay safe! Ian :-)

  • @garydavies695
    @garydavies695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a design fault by Karcher and is a common problem - my K4 and a friends K2 had exactly the same problem - its is a small ball bearing in the nozzle (which screws off) that is fitted into a small plastic shaft that wears away (you do not need a new lance attachment - just the internal plastic shaft which can't be more than a couple of pounds but can't be found to be purchased anywhere) I have emailed Karcher on this and am waiting for a reply - I feel they know this and am withholding the availability of this in order to sell replacment lance attachments

    • @IanPerry
      @IanPerry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments. I couldn't agree more! If only Karcher would provide replacements for the internal parts of the lance, then I feel I would be able to fix mine. Stay safe! Ian :-)

    Karcher is over rated. Their components use a lot of cheap plastic which break easily. Never had problems with my old simoniz pressure washer but the karcher had several components break and the pump started leaking after using less than ten times in total. I won't ever buy one again.

    Save your money on a Karcher Lance as it will fail again due to a very poor design. As are a lot of Kärcher parts, made from cheap plastic.

      @@IanPerry No, thank YOU 🙏 for your comparison, just bought one like yours, just £6.95 on fleabay. (Quite a few exactly the same for very different prices) I’ll take a drop in performance for that price..Oh, and a short biro spring under ball bearing works on original, but will obviously rust in time. Also noticed the recent (yellow tag) vario Lance has a brass insert instead of white plastic, perhaps they will revise dirtblaster sometime. I’m dreaming haha.
