I got interested in pen spinning while trapped on a bus between Galway and Dublin. I only had 5% battery left on my iPhone, and randomly, I had a yellow pencil in my jacket pocket. I used the remaining charge to google “cool pen tricks” and one called the ‘Thumb Around’ came up. So I spent the 2 and a half hour journey learning how to do it.
The ‘Charge’ is a pen spinning techniques that you would commonly see drummers doing, that continuous looping spin motion. I found a TH-cam instructional video on a channel called “KTrinh93”, and I set about practising. For this technique, you need to grip the pen half way up, between your ring and middle finger. Close your fist and use your thumb to apply pressure, release your thumb and quickly open and close your hand. With practise, this will bring the pen around in a circular motion.
